.ABC File Troubleshooting

I use LOTROmidiplayer and ABC Player to create and test music files for the game. Since the latest update, any new tunes I create start off fine, but become a jumpled mess the further they progress in-game. They sound fine in ABC player and my old files continue to function fine in-game. Does anyone else have this problem or understand what is causing it? It really has me frustrated.

Have you tried playing them in game more than once? Recently when I tested music in game they sounded pretty jumbled the first time we tried playing them, but got better when we tried playing them a second time.

Had a friend tear the abc apart bit by bit - nothing wrong on that front. What an odd glitch!

I can't play the ABC Files unless I'm playing as the minstrel class. I've tried to play it as other classes, but it doesn't work. It worked a few weeks ago when I was playing as a guardian, but now I can only play the files as a minstrel. I can use the number keys to play sound, so I know that my player sound it on. Can somebody help me?

Turbine broke the ABC music system in the last update. It has nothing to do with your class. There are a couple of threads on this forum already about it.

I have a problem it seems nobody else is. When I try to play a song, it says
'Song file not found' but with a twist.
The destination is
Documents/Lord of The Rings Online\Music
It's \Music, is there any way to fix this, or does this not matter at all?

Hi, I have just learned how to use abc music sheeting to automatically play music in lotro. I am trying to download the sheet i coppied from abc lotro music into my music file under documents:Lord of the rings online. It is not a zip, its an abc.

I have stumbled into a roadblock, however. Heres how it is...

When i am trying to name the file properly in my blocknote like so...

File name: hollynight.abc
File type: all files

my problem with this is...

you know when you select your file type by selecting ether .txt or all files? well I can only choose between:

html
mht
eml

In no way is it letting me select txt or all files!

I would like to know how to make it an all file type please. The blocknote im using is from Blocknote.net. If this will also help you help me troubleshoot im pasting whats in the blacknote copied from the website:

If I am right, you are trying to save the whole html page. That is why you are not allowed to save it as an .abc or .txt
I couldn't find the page you mentioned, those pages offer different opportunities to save a music file.

Workaround for this file is:

- Mark everything that belongs to this song (from: "T: O Holy Night-Classic-Cyrano-2008" to the last line.
- press Ctrl+c
- open your music folder (within The Lord of the Rings Online)
- Right-click in it and choose "new" > "text document"
- name it (doesn't matter if it is a HolyNight.txt or an HolyNight.abc but it should be one of those two endings)
- open it
- press ctrl+v
- save

- play it ingame or with ABC player (I tested it, it sounds nice, thank you )

Your problem is using blocknote rather than notepad. Copy the song above into a text document like note pad, don't use the blocknote program, it will not save in text or abc. Once you do this and put the song where it belongs everything should be good.

Hello all! Was hoping to get an answer to a very annoying problem I've been having for a drum part of mine.

When testing it ingame, the error message "Unexpected token. Line 6,188, column 1." pops up. The line in question is here (3rd line down-z5/2):

I hope I'm asking this in the right forum as I'm using a mac computer but need help with an issue I'm facing.

I'm able to play several solo songs without too much trouble but thats after a lot of trial and error finding ones to play properly on the mac. Anyways when I go to play a duet with my husband who also uses a mac, the song seems to start the first instrument but won't sync with the second instrument at the right time. For example...

When I type /playstart the first instrument (me with flute) will start to play but the second instrument (hubby with lute) waits for a break from the flute before it will start to play the lute. Then when his lute takes a break, my flute starts to play. In other words they will not sync together at the same time. The two instruments play separately taking turns.

Has anyone come across this before?

Files have to be .abc extension, not .txt. When you go to save the file, hit save as, make sure you select All File types when choosing to save, and then save it as [yourfilenamehere].abc otherwise it will still be saved as a .txt file if you don't change the file type.

Actually, you can play text files in game. They changed that a few updates ago. I would try taking a screen shot in game, if you havn't already, and then go look for the folder it was saved in on your computer, (there can be more then 1 Documents folder). when u find the screen shot, your music folder should be in there too.

If this is where u have been saving ABC files, then I would try downloading the plug-in Song book, that might be the way to go...

First, make sure that "Hide Extensions for Known File Types" in Folder Options is unchecked. That way you can see if the file is really Adams.txt or Adams.txt.abc or somesuch. Make sure it's actually <file>.abc or <file>.txt with no spaces in the filename.

If the system can see your files, they should appear when you type /playlist

In the currently open folder, click "Organize" in the toolbar, and then click "Folder and Search Options".

In "Folder Options", click the "View" tab and you will find the checkbox for "Hide Extensions for Known File Types".

From start menu,
go to My Computer,

I didn't ignore it...I just didn't see it! I've been so busy reading all the suggestions in this thread that I didn't realize you had replied to me. I am sorry. I am checking it out now. Thank you for replying.

I see Organize in the toolbar at the top but it is light grey. When I click on one of the .abc or .txt files I have access to more options, but I do not see anything that says "Folder & Search Options".

I actually got one of my .abc files to work by copying the file into Wordpad and then saving it to the LOTRO>music folder without the .abc or .txt extension. It works in the game! But I tried other songs and they still do not work.

You already have the folder options set to show known extensions.

The usual reason for a song not showing up in-game or not playing is that the formatting of the code in the file is wrong. A lot of files that are copy/paste from sites lose the formatting in the process and won't work until it's restored. Most commonly it's the header area that is responsible.
