    Sapience - Add this to known issues

    The Cosmetic Window misses the light if you try to check your character from this angle:
    I believe the issue is because it had 2 lights, once in each side. And now they'r removed so there's only 1 left, and the character blocks light to the other side.

    I've noticed this as well, and not to the same extent, but in the world as well. Using the handy dandy 'x' cam I was circling grey mobs just to test, and yes, huge difference.

    I've tried to reproduce this error on my character, and unfortunately I'm getting no dice. This may be a video card issue, or related to something more. For issues such as this, please submit a bug report in-game by typing /bug. That way your information will go to the right people.

    Maybe your character is just hiding in the shadows. She may have heard I'm quickly leveling to get go 75 and spar you. Suddenly she felt cold and scared, so hid in the darkness and held her shield up, like a young child hiding under the blankets with eyes closed, hoping it may just be a bad dream.

    Could this be related to specific cosmetics or other gear pieces not working correctly? Might be handy to know what exactly you have in that outfit... I'm thinking it may be item-specific issue, as someone at Eldar's GlobalLFF channel mentioned not seeing his character in dressing room when viewed from the left.

    Items he was trying on were some sort of skirmish cosmetics - Rift ones, I recall. Can't be sure though.

    had this too same black/shadow in the character screen also the same side of moviving npc's was alot lighter. but will bug it next time i log in

    I have this too. I also got the same effect on Saruman t2 in the shadow phase. There was no lighting whatsoever, i was having to position myself based on the minimap and names above the NPCs!

    Had this on Bullroarer and I did /bug it. My characters also look a lot darker on the char select screen.

    I fixed it by turning 'Model Detail' to high. Hope this helps.

    If you guys do get around to improving that thing, can you please change the lighting in the Dressing Room and the Character Creation screen to plain and natural white daylight too? It's a little bit annoying when the colours look different in them and in the actual gameworld.

    After testing a bit:
    1: The item has nothing to do with since i tried with lot of items and still that side in the dressing room is off.
    2: The logging pannel indeed shows my character more darker than usual.
    3: The enemies has a side lightened and a side shadowed.
    4: Point 3 also happens to Players and even horses, but there's something fun about it:
    The brighter side of my Horse is actually the Darker side of my character, making a really weird combination of lights between character and horse, just check:


    I hope you'r aware of this bug, i /bugged it by the way. Just wanted to have it added to the known issues so more people is not as confused as i was.

    Out of curiosity, how many of those suffering this issue are elves?

    I ask because there's been a similar glitch with some of the Rift helms for a number of years now, but it only seems to effect elf characters.

    I just tried this and the same thing is happening to me. I was inspecting someone rather than trying on an outfit. IT looks normal at first until you try to rotate the character. I was inspecting a level 68 Burglar in Galtrev.


    In conclusion: Wow... And I think the reason I don't have this problem in the outfit thing is because I am using a custom UI.

    On topic, I saw the same thing once when I spun my character clockwise but I can't make it do it again. I am guessing that the conditions have to be just right.

    I think these screenshots may be related to the same issue as invisible dresses reported by others...



    Both screenshots are taken in nearly same position in Galtrev Crafting Hall, I may have taken a step or two after the first one. First shot is completely garbled as you can see, second one has a strange "shadow" across the view. Similar issues have been seen before when the camera was kinda "behind" something, at the door's side of the character, but this time I could freely rotate the view around the hall, with no changes in visibility. It remained as seen in the first shot.

    It's just too much of a coincidence to see this kind of issues right after an update, when there's never been any, even remotely similar glitches, before this date. In case a graphics card specific issue is suspected, I have GeForce GTX460 1GB in use, with the 301.24 BETA drivers.

    (Yep, Beta drivers, I know what it means. However, I saw the client freeze/crash during the movie with WB logo on it a few times after Update 6, and decided to upgrade drivers. Freezing stopped right there.)

    I will fill in a bug report shortly.




    Edit: At least I TRIED to fill in a bug report. I filled in it with as accurate details as I could come up with, with links to this thread for viewing screenshots as there's no way to include them into the report, and guess what happened after clicking the button for submitting all of that information?

    The solution to the no screenshot thing is to log in to the forums with the in-game browser and click on the forum tab until it goes to the forums, should be 2 clicks, and then do the bug report.

    I refuse to use that [I'm-not-allowed-to-say-what-quality] browser unless it is absolutely necessary. Or if I get paid for it well enough; say, 50€ per filled bug report, into my own pockets after taxes, and I'll use it. It just doesn't work, at all. I never even check the lotteries in-game with it, I alt-tab to real browser instead. It takes *at most* 1/10th of the time when compared to that very slow and sluggish in-game browser.

    Also, bug report form that's linked on the forum main page apparently meant for Community Site Bugs only (or mainly). If you haven't noticed, I can tell you there's no dropdown for choosing categories that would fit into everything else, such as Graphics/Animation that would be closest of them for the bugs discussed in this thread. It doesn't list the coordinates and other character based information from the game automatically either, there's no separate fields for those. It's a PITA to have to use a lacking tool because the proper tool doesn't work.

    It's Turbine's problem in this case. When they get the community site issues fixed, including the Bug Tracker, I will report the bugs through that. Until that, I either post them here on the forums or just ignore them. I've done a lot of betas during the last 10 years and I've never had to deal with a non-working bug reporting system. Turbine's is the first of those for me.

    I'm with this problem too and I found a solution (: you just need to put Model Detail to the max graphics (advanced graphics, second option). Hope it helps, solved at least for me.

    sorry to disappoint you Celestrata, but i doubt seriously this many people have the same video card problem. its happening to me as well, even though, i find it quite funny, at times. i mentioned it in brandywines glff

    and sometimes, no offense intended, bug reporting really is a waste of time.

    In this case, I think you have a wrong approach. There's two big "base types" of graphics cards - one of them is NVIDIA, the other is ATI. There can be bugs that affect only NVIDIA users, or ATI users. There can be bugs that affect only those of specific gfx card brand users that use DX11. There can be bugs that affect only players who have NVIDIA gfx card and Setting A at Value 1, Setting B at Value 7 and Setting C at Value 2.

    Et cetera. I guess you get the point. That is why having as much details about the bug, the player's character, it's location, in some cases even about the computer the player is using, is always a bonus. When there are more of those detailed reports, it is possible that there's one thing in common within those more accurate specifications - and that's quite often where the investigation really begins.


    I have an example for you as well, about how weird bugs can be. This bug was made "public", at least on the game's official IRC channel, so I guess I can use it as an example...

    Back in 2004-2005, I was in the closed beta test of Sacred: Underworld, starting from very early phase and stopping only when the game was released. At one point, a tester noticed some problems with poison resistance. It didn't work. He bugged it as instructed, with loads of details.

    Soon after, other testers tried to reproduce it, as all of us - testers - had access to viewing full bug database and the status of what was fixed and what needed more feedback. Posting additional feedback, like whether we were able to reproduce it or whether we could see the bug at all, was considered useful. Step-by-step instructions for reproducing were the most valuable stuff, wherever it was possible to list them.

    We did a lot of attempts to reproduce. We tried everything we could imagine. It seemed that half the players had the bug, half the players didn't, with nothing really in common per-group basis. All of us, developers included, were clueless about what's wrong after only looking at the information given in bug reports and comments.

    Later on, the tester who originally found the bug, suddenly posted that it's now working for some strange reason. He can't seem to reproduce it. What the heck is going on here?

    It took a good while, before a very strange link between poison resistance and another feature was found; the debug logger we had in the beta game client. If the debug logger was turned on, poison resistance didn't work. If the logger was off, resistance worked just fine. Developers said they were absolutely clueless about what's wrong with it, until that detail was added.

    No one ever asked us to include information about debug logger's status, whether it was on or off, into the bug reports as it was supposed to be used only when more robust data was needed about client-crashing bugs or such. After this incident, at least I added an extra note into all my bug reports; "Debug Logger: On/Off".


    In a nutshell, you never know what may go wrong when games are being created. It can be an issue that happens at very specific and unexpected circumstances, and that's why all the information possible is needed. Posting just a few screenshots doesn't quite cut it - more details, preferably from as many players as possible, is needed. Or at the very least, wanted.


    Ps. Sacred: Underworld beta test is the only one in my "career" from which I've received concrete rewards. I got two, in fact; first of all, the expansion in question was shipped to me free, and the more hilarious one is my own grave within the game world. There's a tombstone somewhere, that lists my real name, my nickname, and a memorial text - "Modem User" - referring to 33600bps connection speed I had back then. There's also a mass grave that lists the nicknames of most long-time testers.

    Apparently, we were all killed - or buried alive - for knowing too much... :P

    Happened to me several times yesterday. One such time I was in Galtrev and there was a huge wall of black if I turned the camera at the right angle. Bugged it also, dunno if it helps anything.

    Graphics card is ATI 6870, never had any problems or graphic bugs before this.

    Did it only happen in one angle? if it did, it's possible that the camera went behind an object, such as a banner on the wall. That will make your screen go "black" too... That issue is not new, it's been there for as long as I remember. I don't really consider it a bug either, but more of an inconvenience.

    If you bother with it, check if you can find the same spot again and try reproducing. If you find the spot, try zooming in and out and see if that has any effect. If zooming in clears the view, take a look at what's in the direction of the camera; is there an object that could come in between the camera and your character and "block" the view?

    Steps at the Galtrev Crafting Hall are an "easy" place to produce the more common black screen issue. However, that only happens when the camera is at specific spot - moving the camera to sides or zooming in will clear the view. In my case it didn't clear, so it was something else.

    I tested out the dressing room prob & with the non custom & a custom UI I dont have the problem.
