    I need a hint, too. I'm drawing a blank.

I did finally come up with another quickie, though:

White, grey, brown, or black --
substance I have but form I lack.
Unwanted brother of the camper's friend,
Whither Manwë wills, there I'll wend.

(This one is not Tolkien-specific, except for the reference to Manwë.)

    Re: The Riddle-Game

I think that the1ringer needs to rewrite his riddle. If you think about it, almost any kingdom matches his riddle. I can think of many kingdoms that are between "4 kingdoms of men." Most kingdoms have farms, and anyone could deem their own kingdom "the fairest." Most kingdoms at the time were "losing heads" to "feed an army grand" as most kingdoms were involved in the war of the ring. I forget who guessed it, but someone guessed Rohan. Rohan, among many other kingdoms, fits the riddle. It has many farms, many people deem the Riddermark as very fair. The people of Rohan are between at least 4 kingdoms (off the top of my head, there's Gondor, Khand, the Easterlings and the Southrons). It's people are losing heads to feed an army grand. If you look closely, almost any kingdom that you can think of fits the1ringer's riddle.

ok here's a stupid little one I just came up with. i dont have much time to think up a good one. I'll redeem myelf later on when I have more time and less work piled up on my desk.

I am always going on ocean voyages, but never on a ship, and never alone
I’m usually close by when friends part ways, but gone right after
If I am not around, you will never hear music playing, or children laughing

Perhaps, but the 'losing heads' line makes me think Gondor based on the passage in RotK (also shown in the movie) when the Morgul host starts using catapults to launch the heads of those who fell defending Osgiliath over the walls during the 1st part of the battle for the Pelennor fields.

    So, Gondor?

[edit] Nevermind, I just re-read the thing, and my guess doesn't fit at all.

Khand does not bordor Rohan, and neither does Harad or Rhun. The "losing a head" is a big clue. And the subject of the riddle is not the fairest. Notice it is losing ONE head in particular. And it has way more farms than most. And of the four kingdoms, two are jealous of the fourth's because of its fairness. The other shows no sign of caring.

    Ithilien?

I had thought this when I read the losing heads line thing, thinking of the statue of the king at the crossroads. But I really never thought of Ithilien as farmland, even though I do recall reading something about the "fair gardens of Ithilien". I guess I always thought of the plains of Lebinin as being the "bread basket" of the Kingdom of Gondor.

    Re: The Riddle-Game

Remember I said that the fairest one was not the subject of the riddle? But the land of Ithilien is the land that is "losing a head." Gj, somebody finally is getting close. And I've never heard of Ithilien having many farms...

Perhaps Lake Nurnen in Mordor? Or Nurn as I believe the region thereabouts is called.

Here's another one. Please ignore the rhyme scheme change between the stanzas.

I've serpents of gold and serpents of red
'round me entwined, with message of Numenor.
Forces of Angmar I battled -- they bled
with wounds I inflicted in many long years of war.

Long I lay sleeping, with darkness and dead,
'Til wakened to service when spirit had fled.
Fealty I pledge and destruction afford --
the second to troll chief, the first to a lord.
