I soloed it as a 36grd, wearing lvl 31 crit-crafted (non-single use) hardened DI armor, using a fair quest-drop weapon (Steak Tenderizer, I think) and nothing-special quest-drop jewelry (although the two +1% block bracelets certainly helped).
Challenge to keep the NPCs off Basil Gummidge (and keep his dps in the fight); when the adds spawn, focus fire on the lowbies first, using Parry stance to light up AoE attacks as much as possible.
It wasn't an easy fight, I popped Guardian's Pledge and Deep Breath and probably an athelas pot, but wouldn't say I came close to dying.
It may have been a closer fight if I had been using exclusively quest drop armor, but I still don't think I would have died.

REASONS: The Chieftain you have to fight is a L45 signature with 2 L44 bodyguards.
The area he is in is crawling with Hillmen archers who are continuoulsy walking around.
If you try and kill them all,by the time you have finished the 1st will have respawned.
This means you have to fight the Chief and his 2 bodyguards whilst archers are shooting at you.
I just scraped through as a L45 Guardian using pots and food .
Yet another example of a Solo quest that needs a group if you want to do it at the stated level.
This zone would have to be the worst zone Ive seen where groups are needed to do the solo qsts at the stated level.
Do the devs actually test these qsts to determine if they can be done at the stated levels.
If this one has already come up, sorry for the repost:

REASONS: At level 46, I cannot solo this quest. I am a minstrel, and this quest requires working through an entire camp of Guaredain, which seem to happily summon 2-3 adds every time you attack one, regardless of how careful you are. I have died twice to this quest after getting only 3/10 figurines and 1/3 rituallists. A small fellow, maybe even a duo could handle this, but it is hard to solo.

Agreed. There are more than 30, but not sure if there's enough for 60 lol. Just did this again last weekend (3rd char doing quest) and found out about this change. We pretty much scoured the entire instance (I was leading and got lost) and I honeslt don't believe there's enough for 2 people to complete from -0- and we had 4 people who needed it. I was lowest at 36 so they let me go first.

REASONS: with what would probably be described as middling equipment, my lvl 48 Guardian (who has achieved lvl 48 with probably 3/4 of the xp coming solo) gets killed a whole awful lot without getting anywhere near the quest objectives - and that's taking advantage of other groups in there (following behind them where they've cleared out most of the mobs, etc)

REASONS: While the mob levels are appropriate, the concentration of mobs on the two islands that you have to go to is very high, and the islands are very small. On each island is a small building with an open entrance. At the front entrance there are three lvl 39 mobs. Inside the building there are three additional lvl 39 mobs, and then at least one more lvl 39 mob that walks a route between inside and outside. You cannot attack any of the outside mobs without triggering all three of them. You cannot attack any of the inside mobs without triggering all three of them. Attacking the wandering mob will trigger all three mobs on the inside/outside depending on whether the wanderer is inside or outside.
That in itself might be doable, but there are also an unknown number of stealthed/hidden mobs outside as well. I have been in situations fighting two stealth mobs and have a third appear immediately after killing one of them. So I would say that there are at least three, or the respawn rate is really high.
And that takes me to the last point, the respawn rate on those mobs is very high. Even if you could kill all of the mobs fast enough to get in to loot the chests on your own, they would be respawning before you finished looting the chests, leaving you to fight your way out in the middle of a rapidly respawning mob of mobs.
The only way that I've had any success with this quest is to bring someone with me, or hope that you run into someone else who's in the same situation that you're in. Even then, it's not easy. My lvl 41 Hunter couldn't complete this quest until I teamed up with a lvl 50 Champion. I suspect a Champ might have a slightly easier time of it, but it would still be difficult.
QUEST: Hobgoblins Recipe
CATEGORY: Shire (Oatbarton)
JOURNAL LEVEL: 29 (I think)
JOURNAL ICON: Solo
ACTUAL LEVEL: It may be doable at 28 with a fellowship
ACTUAL ICON: Small fellowship at least
REASONS: Mob density is horrendous in this area. It's a tiny camp full of mobs with long wandering patterns. This leads to a situation that whereever you choose to fight, you wind up with at least 2 more mobs charging in before you are done with the first two you tackle. There also seems to be very few torch items available in the area leaving you very few choices about where to fight. Classes without AoE attacks (such as my Burglar) are effectively defenseless against the Boggart swarms, so the only option is to avoid them.

ACTUAL LEVEL: ?? - I was able to solo it at lvl 31 after several attempts
ACTUAL ICON: Small fellowship
REASONS: Bonefang is manageable alone, but the mob density in the area and bonefang's ability to call in support from outside the normal aggro range makes this nigh impossible to solo. I attempted if four times at level 28. The mob density in the area is so high that I was able to clear a space to fight Bonefang, but respawns would immediately commence upon summoning Bonefang.

REASONS: Come on, if you don't know then your designers need to be smacked. Okay, I got that out of my system. Here's why: Respawn rate is INSANE. Single use torches is a bit much. People in fellowship not getting credit is rediculous. I did it with 2 players and it required us to find 6 torches and burn 6 pots all while being swarmed by goblin respawn. This is quest is NOT soloable, or it's difficult enough for people to just say "Screw it." and drop it. The most annoying quest I've done up to level 29. Please fix it by making it a small fellowship quest or increasing the level requirement and giving credit to everyone in a fellowship for pots burned.
The quests are fine with reported difficulty, however the issue I have with Book 3 is the non-linear nature of it. Specifically chapters 4, 5, and 6 (A Call to Dwarves, A Call to Elves, and A Call to Men respectively). While I like the idea of a non-linear quest chain, it should be reserved for solo quest chains.
I assembled a fellowship last night to do Chapter 4, Rescue Dori. Since a lot of the previous quests were solo, each of us had chosen different chapters. The end result was that to get our whole fellowship through the quests, we literally had to run 2 of the quests twice.
Had we been more familiar with the chain, we might have known that we should have all abandoned our individual quests and taken new quests together. But none of us had done this quest series in months.
Basically, just saying that I like non-linear quest chains, but please only use them in solo chains. It's hard enough assembling/keeping fellowships on the same quest chains as it is.
Thanks!

Actually this one is very solo-able on level. Wait until the "Terror" has engaged a group of 3, or more NPC tomb-robbers in the ruins. Before he takes down the last one, you can steal the tag (he never goes gray to you) and take him down. He will be about 1.2k-1.4k Morale at that point.
This is one where you need to wait for the opportune moment to engage.

I've logged a bug on this one, because there is a way to complete with very minimal combat. You can loot the relic chests thru the walls from the outside. Hit the DEL key to select closest object, find that point on the outside of the wall and hit "U" to loot it. A bit hinky I know, but it I finally resorted to that after getting tired of the semi-rapid respawns.

100% agree with this. The thing I'd like to add is that since I'm a burglar, I was able to stealth in and note the locations and levels of the stealthed robbers. On the southern island, each chest was covered by a minimum of 2 level 39 mobs, and 1 lvl 40!. In addition to a wandering lvl 40 and several others at the entrance. I was able to push through quickly enough that I only had to deal with one wave of respawns of the wandering mobs before I was able to loot the first chest.
That means that it took so long to whittle my way into the place that the entrance guards were already respawned before I reached the chest. Without Stealth and Hide in Plain Sight, I doubt it would have been soloable at all.

I second this. I have tried this duoing twice. The respawn rate is too fast. No matter where you stand you're in a couple of mob's aggro zone. We had to fight the sinature mob at the third banner three times and then drew the aggro of the guards at the next gate just trying to get away from him and the respawns around the tent. It was a fun fight even though we were eventually defeated, but definitely NOT soloable.
In general I have found the respawn rates in the enemy camps in Angmar to be very unfriendly to solo-ers and duo-ers. Dark Standards and Goblin Gems being the two that stick out in my mind.

QUEST: Old Forest Investigation
CATEGORY: Bree-land
JOURNAL LEVEL: 13
JOURNAL ICON: Fellowship
ACTUAL LEVEL: 13
ACTUAL ICON: Solo
REASONS: The quest is to find and talk to two Hobbits in the Old Forest. There's no fight, no large groups of enemies, no elite trees you need to pass. I bet it would be possible to do this whole quest without fighting anything in the entire forest if you really wanted to. The level seems appropriate given the level of the enemies in the area, but there's no need for this to be a fellowship quest.
QUEST: Eliminating the Train
CATEGORY: Misty Mtns
JOURNAL LEVEL: 47
JOURNAL ICON: Solo
ACTUAL LEVEL: 47
ACTUAL ICON: Small Fship.
REASONS: The quest is one where it may be possible for classes that are hi DPS,but its impossible for classes like Guards or Minstrels due to the insane respawn rate of the mobs.
The Wind masters are at the very bak of the camp, are always near other garudan wolf born and their dogs.
You cant pull them singly and when you fight one , you end up with 4 mobs plus their dogs on you.
As a L48 Guard I can just take on 4 mobs plus 2 dogs at once, but it uses up all my cooldowns and I then cant fite all the respawns without a long wait.
Either adjust the respawn rate to allow for low DPS classes, or indicate that low DPS classes need a group.
