    This suggestion is amazing!

    /signed

I've always wanted taverns to play a bigger role. I remember when my minstrel was 15, I took a while off from questing to play music with a few other people in the tavern.

It would be nice to see some other bonuses though. Rather than just using this to get buffs for raids and stuff, which is what it would be used for, it should give unique buffs. Maybe a new rep could be added for the Tavern League, which could be increased by doing tavern stuff. It could also impact xp intake or something.

It'd also be nice to be able to make a little money on the side. Nothing significant, but maybe a little bit of silver (a tip) for rep gained in the inn through music or dancing.

Sorry, Vastin already said No it would not.

Now that doesn't mean they won't come up with their own Tavern feature in the future if it survives the "Thunderdome" of design.

This is a brilliant idea. I don't know if it would work, but darn does it sound fun.

Easily the best suggestion I have seen, and its obvious you put a lot of time and effort into making this thread, from the pictures to the well written suggestion itself. Even if it isn't implemented in a recognizable form, /salute to you for coming up with this and putting effort into this thread.
EDIT: Oops, I already posted in this thread I knew I'd seen it, but couldn't remember if I'd posted here.

Oh man I hope the latter happens. I don't understand why the wouldn't implement this design, it has an ENORMOUS player support. I've never seen anyone disagree with it or think it would be a waste of the devs time.

    What is Thunderdome?

    What is Thunderdome?

The main disagreement comes from uncertainty over how these bonuses, no matter how small they may be, would influence the difficulty level of quests and instances.

The assumption is that any new bonuses for combat introduced by a new system would force the Devs to go back and retool gameplay, perhaps forcing mini-maxing players to use what should be a fun feature. OR if they didn't, then leveling would be made too easy. They could very well be right! My view was that the rewards should be small enough for Revelries to be an option, not a requirement, to prevent having to go back and increase encounter difficulty.

There were several, uh, passionate posters on the European forums who seemed to wish the Black Plague on me for it. I’m guessing they already felt burdened with being forced to carry around every kind of food item, battle lore, and buff skill known to mankind and Revelries would be adding yet another one they’d feel compelled to acquire.

Thunderdome is from the Mel Gibson movie “Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome”. It is a type of arena where disputes were settled. The phrase most relevant to game design (which I’m hearing more and more often among devs) is “Two men enter, one man leaves." So basically, you have all these ideas that you throw into Thunderdome and they fight it out for resources, budget, time, popularity, relevance, difficulty, and other factors, and the winner walks out in triumph to begin development.

There will be a certain amount of pushback on the idea from people who don't want to spend time out from battling. I haven't seen any yet, but there are folks out there who will resent spending even a little time in a tavern. I don't understand these folks - to me socializing is an essential part of the experience in a game like this - but these folks do exist.

following this logic do they also consider spending destiny in an instance an influence in how difficult that instance is? C'mon now. sounds like a cheap way out the back door. Im pretty sure that a player walking around with a constant massive armor boost because his creep counterpart has collected 10000 destiny points has a MUCH greater impact in an instance than +1 hope(or something to that effect).

i think the bottom line is money. nothing as dramatic as gameplay being unbalanced. right now they dont want to spend money on implementing something like this. given the overwhelming response from the community(and devs for that matter) there is really no other excuse. its expensive to be innovative. perhaps we'll see something like this in the future when the game is bigger and they have a larger budget.

I think thats the whole point of not going towards giving a bonus to combat.

It would have to be a small enough bonus not to effect quest difficulty and not make the player feel they are missing out if they don't do a revelry first.

Which would make it kinda pointless to go the route of giving such a small combat buff because it would be so small.

So why not keep the idea of the system, but make it more for socializing and non combat related? Give titles, deeds, or even something entirely new instead for completing them.

Perhaps if they ever add in anything more to do in Taverns, they could have these things buff those types of additions. So maybe they add mini games to be played in Taverns, then the revelries could buff those somehow. Drinking contests, food eating contests, dances, etc. etc. Maybe Revelries could be their own mini game where an NPC tries to see if you can match what he does or something.

And of course, sometimes fluff for fluffs sake is just nice to have too.

Little bit strange how the best idea in the entire suggestion forum was given a vocal 'no thanks' by the devs. Most other stuff just lies there without a single comment from them.
Yes sir, we tore the universe a new spacehole alright.

Noticed that too huh Sarcasmo? 1900 page views. 195+ responses over 13+ pages. Almost 100% vocal, frenetic support. And one dev comment--which said to forget about it. And that was 4 months ago. This is a disheartening sign. The passion of paying gamers warrants at least a more serious discussion from the folks in power, in my humble opinion.

Then i suggest we keep this at the top of the suggestion forum for as long as it takes. keep it clean and un-offensive so they have no reason to close it.. and we'll see what happens when it gets hit 10000 times with 1500 replies.

Seems reasonable. Earnest, respectful, clean, and in view!

What's worrying is that I just went to the "Dev Tracker" link. In the past 2 months, a total of -5- posts in the Suggestions forum have been responded to by a Dev. One was to announce closing of the post, two were to say that the idea wouldn't happen, one was to say that it was already being addressed, and a grand total of -1- said, "You know, not a bad idea; we'll think about it."

Should the Turbine staff be waiting with baited breath at a keyboard ready to comment on every suggestion we make here? Of course not. Would we appreciate them recognizing that we're taking our time & thought & energy toward making a broader, better game, and maybe try to be more responsive and, well, interested? Gosh that'd be great.

Add an element to an MMORPG that has NEVER been done before. The reason games are not appealing to the traditional MMO crowd is because the lack of feeling immersed. The major problem here is taverns, this would compeltely fix it! /SIGNED!
