As for the snowman...
Why doesn't it have an orange colored carrot for a nose? If I recall it has a grayish black lumpy thing - like coal for the nose. Not supposed to use coal for the nose - that is for the eyes and mouth - look it up in the snowman manual.
Good hunting.

i wanted to bring your attention to some missing lore: if you recall in the fellowship of the ring book. when frodo and sam start their journey to bucklland from the shire they camp at a hollow tree. i cant remember when persay this part takes place possibly before he meets the elves that are going west. A couple of months ago my kinship had a little festival/party. one of the event was the path of frodo were we would walk on the same path and see what frodo saw. before we had started some of the more "lore" knowing players went out to find all the landmarks the only land mark that we could not find was frodos hollow tree in the shire.

Isn't that location just above Woodhall, on the west side?

It may be, but the tree is not there. Due to the land compression, we had to pick and choose which minor landmarks to include, and that tree didn't make the cut. There were just so many details in the Shire that there was no way all of them could have made it in without being spaced out every ten feet.

Awesome thread. Helped me enjoy the game more.
Had an extended discussion about the genius of Tolkien with another player yesterday - they had quite a... modern... interpretation of his writing. Glad to see I'm not the only Tolkien nutI've been wanting to play this game for precisely this reason. You guys get it

it's very cool to see this thread revived, amidst quite a bit of negativity lately. btw it's probably been mentioned here but there is an easter egg north of ost guruth. trick is you need to get up the wall/hill in order to find it. saw it on youtube, was never able to get there myself.

I'm still reading through the whole thread, very cool stuff, some I knew, some I didn't. With that in mind, I don't know if anyone mentioned it already, but the "friendly" cursed spirits in Agamaur and the Harleog, which are all related to the Red Maid quest line always mention they are under the curse of Iarwain until the Maid is destroyed or restored, which leads back to Goldberry
I mention it as a lore nugget because as Frodo finishes recounting the adventure leading to Rivendell, both Elrond and Glorfindel recognize the being called Tom Bombadil as Iarwain in the elven lore. That was flat out awesome for me and my wife to see in game.
On a slightly related note, if anyone affiliated with the Turbine teams is still watching the thread: *Gush*
Seriously, I know things have been in upheaval of late, and it's hard with so many people slamming you because they don't understand you aren't working a sound board but having to hunt down errant commas and semi-colons and scroll through lines and lines and lines of horrible repetitious code which takes time, to feel like your work is worth it. But it has been, is, and will be.
Founder here, just made it to 40. Why? Because I've been exploring the world you've built, enjoying the depth and detail and retracing my steps to see things I may have missed. Turbine has provided the most beautiful environment I've ever played in and the most stable over all experience. Thank you all very much.
In defense of a lot of nay saying I say, " Let them eat blueberry tart."

This is a rather long thread, so I don't know if this has already been mentioned. IMO, I found something that doesn't make sense when compared with events in The Hobbit.
In The Hobbit, Gandalf marked Bilbo's door with an X (I believes it was an X) so the dwarves could find Bilbo's home. In game however, there is only one home at Bag End. So, I should be almost impossible to miss. There are no other homes to confuse it with. If you side with what's in game, Gandalf would never have had to mark the door for the dwarves. So, if I missed something, please feel free to correct me.
That's my two cents worth anyway.
He marked Bilbo's door with a burglar's symbol (undefined), which he scratched out when he arrived. However, you are not necessarily incorrect as to the confusion. Remember, The Hobbit was written with no inkling (pardon the pun) that LotR would ever exist.
In The Hobbit, it is very likely that Bag End was just one of many holes. However, as of LotR, it occupies the entire top of the Hill and would indeed not be particularly difficult to find (unless Gandalf just assumed the dwarves were truly that dense--which they do seem to be on occasion in The Hobbit.)
i always pictured Bag End as being the "big house at the end of the street", so to speak... i.e., there were a row of other holes along the road that led to Bag End. It's one of the few things in LoTRO that didn't quite match my mental image.
If there were, it would explain the potential for confusion.
I'd just like to ask, why is one of the guards outside Archet called Eric, seems unusually a generic NPC is given a name when they speak to one another?
