Yep... I avoided the tourist traps for most of my 5 months on Bohol, but before I left we spent one day going around the island seeing the tourist sights. Went to see the Tarsiers after chocolate hills, then the rest of the day at a white sand beach on Panglao.

If you like the heat/humidity it's a great life. 75-85 year round, rather humid. Feels good IMO, at most you need a fan or a breeze to be comfortable. On the coast there's usually a nice breeze. Lots of the foreigners I met there just sit in their aircon rooms all day... I don't see a point to going there for that though.

It is really cheap to live there. I'm just getting started myself. Doesn't take a whole lot.

A nice house on the coast (not white sand beach) costs maybe $30k. White sand beach lots are much more expensive and hard to find. If you don't have to live on the coast, can cut that in half (don't need the seawall, land is cheaper). Can't own the land yourself, but can lease it for up to 75 years (which is long enough) or if your SO is a Philippine citizen they can own the land.

Cost of living once you have the house is minimal. In 5 months I spent about $1k for room, board (5 meals a day, all you can eat), maid service, and access to a van. With a few grand into land to grow bananas/mangos/rice, should be able to make enough to live on. $35/mo for visa extensions. (Which you can get out of if you're married to a Philippines citizen or planning on staying indefinitely.)

Only real expense is the plane tickets. I've seen round trips for ~$600 on specials, but most of the time it's going to run ~$1300 for a round trip flight.

Thats beautiful. I'm a warm weather beach bum. I hate living in Massachusetts. Summer is great but iffy and winter is either cold or snowy or both. Not fun. That on top of freezing ocean waters...

I'm thinking about moving somewhere different now that I'm graduating college. The big thing keeping me around here is family. That and its where I've been my whole life..

(The stuff we buy in stores in the US really doesn't count. Bananas are so much more tasty when they haven't been cut really green, shipped, then artificially ripened.)

Grats on graduation... what type of work are you looking for?

I used to be ok with spending my winters here in SoCal. When I first got here I could go swimming in the ocean all year round. Going from Utah winter to SoCal winter is a huge difference. Now that I'm used to SoCal weather though, it feels downright cold in the "winter"... 65F OMG where's my coat!?!?!

The water in the Philippines is perfect for swimming so long as you're away from the big cities where pollution is a real problem. It's cool enough that it's refreshing, but not so cold you can't just stay in it all day even when it's cloudy. The only problem is no real surf.

The distance is a problem. Skype makes it easy to talk to friends and family, but it's not quite the same as being there.

Finishing a degree in Occupational Therapy. I'm not sure whether I want to go into a school or a rehab yet but at least its a field where I can hopefully find work wherever I decide to go.

65 degrees here is like beach weather..I'm not sure where I'm going to end up yet. My first goal is to pay off college loans and other debt then go from there..

very nice pics man, ill be retiring soon from the army, and ill be moving back in the Philippines with my fam, maybe in a year. Ive been to boracay twice, If i remember right i met a chick from bohol like back in 05 . Im start some businesss and such, if you do retire there, and you think of doing some businesss, i know some stuff, and i know people that know people that know people lol. Im acutally think of a bar, my cousin already started one just this month, so we are gonna see how that goes hehe.
