Smile Re: I Remember When...

Got more that I remembers:

The +100% Evasion cloak from a Great Barrows quest. <3 ♥ <3 thus my very first full run of GB.
When Horse Stables did not have horses yet, and it just ported you to where you wanted to be. If you were lucky. I believe only certain ones were hooked in just barely.
Me going to check out the Misty Mountains after Patience leveled everyone at the Party Tree up to the level cap 40. With my cape of uberness, Also had my first taste of the GA instance, and some of the fields of fornost.
That was my first time experiencing a character wipe in Lotro, yet I was willing to do it again. And again come beta 2.0.
The first days when MonsterPlay was to be introduced.
Miss Tiggs, when she had some of us folks in EC excited we might get to try out MonsterPlay early. Other kins were pretty bitter due to that. It never happened, yet rumors on the forums kept claiming it did. <snipped the rest, but believe you me, it weren't a very nice forums for awhile.>
Rolling a couple of instant (virtue-less) 50's that could only be used in the Ettenmoors, once MonsterPlay was officially started up.
Being warned to NOT flip keeps, because it would crash the server.
Getting stuck in combat due to LM pets. (applied to both my warg and my LM.)
OH! And being able to harvest brittle-leaf seeds from the Hobbit village, in order to pay the stupid Repair Bills. (oh and trait swapping fees too) Forget how long it took to get that fix, but I remember the Patch Notes had a message playfully scolding the Free People for takin' the farmers seedlings.
Lots of closed beta memories. I try not to remember the bitter parts so much, but they happened. Mostly involving the PvMP, but competitiveness against others tends to bring that out. Sometimes the damage can be repaired, and you make a new friend, sometimes you just make a more bitter enemy.
Oh, and how can I forget to mention: Bobble's dancing with Wargs and Reise's /afk Congo lines in GV.
!<3?!Wargs Rule!!?<3! But only because we have no playable feline races.
???s6u!?? 3?!?o?@? ?w ?o m3? @ 3?@ 3s3??

My fondest memory is of when the Bree Fell Scrying Pool caused everyone who used it to get stuck. It was great being able to chat with my Creep-side friends outside of the 'Moors.

Re: I Remember When...

I remember when the morale system was introduced, and testers and fans alike complained about how hard it would be to keep up with the motif. One guy made a post saying "I'm a hobbit burglar getting punched by a troll! I can keep getting bludgeoned to death so long as my morale stays up!" After which he would smile, showing that he had no teeth.

I also remember when people said the Loremaster didn't really fit the setting, and I agreed with them.

Looking back, I think many of those players had a lot of wisdom, especially when I see people slaying the Balrog regularly, leading sabertooth tigers through Bree, or casting "spells" all over the place.

I kind of wish people had taken those posts more seriously.
Whatever happened to elves who stood amidst the field of battle in glory, like the eye of a storm, using their awe and bearing to stare down foes while they spoke like thunder and swung swords that shone with inner light? That is what I wanted to see. And that's not what this class is doing. -- What someone at Turbine should have said.

Re: I Remember When...

I got invited into my first Kinship at lv15 and thinking...this is what I've been missing!

Going to GF with hunter kinnie at lv15 for them to "pwr level" me. My only memories are flashes of running and screaming.

My first true fellowship in GB and thinking...THIS is why I play this game.

My breathless gasp at the first site of Rivendale and thinking I've come home.

Seeing the lake in Evendim for the first time and realizing I had to swim across...ugh.

I killed the turtle for the 1st time. Oh wait, that was just last night!

I remember being in the Rift with my regular group and hearing things like "Oh ****, my bad." followed closely by us all getting wiped. Good times.

LOL!

You think PVMP is the entire focus of the game?

I hope you are talking about your focus, not Turbines.

Because, if you are talking about Turbine's entire focus being on pvmp you need your head examined.

Well this isnt the thread for it but since you bring it up every single change to this game since book 10 has been based on the moors. Moria for a short time turned the focus back to pve followed by massive freep nerfs and creep buffs. Why do you think they reduced dps across the board AND reduced the morale of the monsters? Why do both other than they did it because of PVMP?

Also look at the updates bug fixes etc. All moors based. Housing is still borked 2 years later because they spend every waking moment figuring out how to balance PVMP instead of focusing on PVE.

Anyways you want to continue this discussion send me a PM this isnt the place for this debate.

I remeber when LOTRO held our imagination of the unexpected even though i read the books and it seem a relentless wave of surprise where around each corner of virtual Middle Earth.

I remeber the excitement of hunting Amareth's Random attacking goon squad.

I remeber what fun it was battling the Dev controled mods in beta.

I remeber most of all, a freind presenting me with a gift of a crafted black ash bow.

Re: I Remember When...

...the first time I joined a fellowship and heard people chatting. I was lvl 14 and everyone else was 40+. I felt such awe looking at high levels...
...when I ran into a wood-troll near the northern Bree-Fields. Oh, and the fun we had being punted around by it.
...when everywhere I could go (Bree-land) had great in-game music. When I ventured into the Lone Lands and North Downs, it all went down hill... Not to bash the adventuring music we have in exotic Moria and challenging Angmar, but the guitar arrangements in Bree we're so Lore-perfect.
...The first time I tried to solo a freep on my first creep, a rank 1 WL. It was this guardian, and he had the hardest time believing that I was alone, kept running away when we got into the woods. But it was fun, even if i did lose. There was certainly more enjoyment out of fights then, no ridiculous dev crits from guards sprinting around with twohanders.
...the time I was lagging like heck and fell through the floor of Thorin's Hall. :P

I remember when...

...the Bree auction house was in the building that is now the Town hall ( wasn't it?).
...elf maids had lazy eyes.
...my lvl14 LM tried and tried to shake one particularly persistent bear for what seemed miles and miles before realizing it was her newly-acquired pet. I laughed so hard I cried, and no one else was even around.
...there were only a few hairstyles to choose from and no barber if you changed your mind about it.
...the person you were /follow'ing could get you killed riding over a cliff.
...crafted equipment could be handed down when you out grew it.
...there were no gem shards.
...personal steeds were what? 18g?
...you could mail token-bartered giftboxes to all your friends for fun.
...the boar fountain was up the street.
...the rented horse coming into the West Bree gate would get hung up under the bridge.
...you had to pay for equipment repairs, even before lvl10.
...a million little things, good and not-so-good and great that have made this game wonderful for me.

It's not as bad as it sounds. It was either back in open beta or just after release when people were complaining on the forums about all sorts of nitpicky things. (Not like now in the least, eh?) A guy -- can't remember who -- started a tongue-in-cheek thread on the forums about this pixel in Bree that was just wrong and how it was ruining the game for him. Then a bunch of the rest of us piled on and it eventually turned into a many-pages-long thread about the pixel. It was downright overpowered and evil by the end. It was quite humorous.

That thread, like many others, was lost in the great forum purge.
