    Cost

I pay 29.99 every three months to play. I want to be a VIP with the least amount of hassle possible. I play at my leisure. Is this new point system going to cost me more than I am paying now to maintain VIP level?

The question has been asked elsewhere but not answered

Me too, on two accounts. Will I have to pay 50% more to continue as a VIP?

The price of your plan remains the same. That subscription plan will simply start to provide VIP benefits once we launch the new release.

Yup, and you'll get 500 points each month for free to spend in the store as well.

Nothing changes if you are already a subscriber.

Except that the game will get better! I will gladly throw those free points into Shared Storage expansions and cosmetic/house items. Sure, I probably won't set foot in Bree for a month after launch, to stave off the worst of the new trash, but Enedwaith and Book 2 are launching, and more updates in the Winter! I'm excited, despite the mild poison to the community that is a newb.

    Re: Cost

Does anyone know approximately what the cost of the points will be?
If you pay $15 per month for the subscription, are those 500 points a $15 value, or less.
I saw some speculation that they were around $5-7. Has there been any more information on this?
I have a lifetime sub, so I'm not too worried, was just wondering...

I think you're confusing two different things.

Your subscription pays for the access you enjoy now. It won't change. Your sub will pay for and provide what it always has. Now, with Free-to-Play we're adding additional value to your subscription in the form of Turbine Points. It's a bonus, not a replacement.

    Re: Cost

It's not unreasonable to speculate the points cost will be about the same as in DDO, which is currently

420 Points : 400 Turbine Points (+ 20 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $6.50
1,550 Points : 1,200 Turbine Points (+ 350 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $19.50
2,500 Points : 1,820 Turbine Points (+ 680 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $29.50
5,000 Points : 3,100 Turbine Points (+ 1,900 Bonus Points) to use in the DDO Store $49.99
However there are always specials and promotions going on where they offer more points or double points or things like that, and the things they sell in the store don't directly translate over to LOTRO, so it's impossible to say with certainty how much our points will cost. And as Sapience said, it's not a reflection on subscription cost
If you give away gold bars, someone will complain they're too heavy.

There is no confirmation on what the exact purchase prices for points will be for LotRO yet. DDO gives the points as follows (see http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/DDO_Store_Guide for all the info you'd need on the DDO store prices/content):

    420 Points = $6.50 = $.0154/point
    1,550 Points = $19.50 = $.0126/point
    2,500 Points = $29.50 = $.0118/point
    5,000 Points = $49.99 = $.01/point

So, at the minimum standard prices for DDO points 500 points = $5, and if you're buying them in smaller bunches it's roughly 500 points = $7.70. So yeah, $5-7.70 worth of points depending on how you want to look at it.

For the record, the VIP price for DDO is $15/mo and you get 500 points, so since LotRO is the same cost and gets you the same number of points, I think it's safe to use DDO point prices as a base.

No, I understand that fully .
I was just wondering what kind of monetary value these 500 points have to find out how much extra we get from having a lifetime Sub. I've already passed the value of paying per month ($199 @ $10 p/m = 20 months), so I'm already scoring. Now I'm scoring even more free stuff .
Just wanted to know how much that stuff was worth

Thanks very much! It sure looks like it will be similar then. Thanks to Brandon as well for posting that
So, if I play for the next 7 years (was that when the license expired?), I will be getting:

    • $9.99 p/m for 28 months (that I've had a sub) = $280
    • $5 - $7.70 p/m for the next 84 months = $ 420 - $646.8

Total of $700 - $926.8 dollars for an outlay of $199
    I'm pretty happy with that.

If you have paid $19.95 and currently have 3 available character slots then you are a Premium account at the moment. If you were a subscriber you would be paying a monthly fee and have at least 5 slots open to you.
