The only reason I ask is because I've heard both women and children cuss up a terrible storm before. Perhaps if something's not fit to be said in front of your stereotypical women and children, it's not fit to be said in any company.
I never curse in front of women. But when it's just us guys...........

Just take a lesson from FireFly, don't use profanities, just use swear phrases in Mandarin, Gorram it.

I am willing to be sympathetic to differences such as this, but typing is inherently not vocal.
I was not referring to typing.

I curse a lot. My friends don't care. If anyone else makes an issue of it, I tell them I have Tourettes (I have no idea if I actually do or not, though I do have several symptoms) and they generally shut up.

Watching your language to keep a job is one thing and has a value to performing it. Watching it in a public setting to avoid offending some hypothetical thin skinned twit who will take offense at anything (specifically referring to the woman who babysat me as a child) is something I have no interest in doing. I generally avoid socializing with anyone outside of my inner circle for these reasons.

By my admittedly non-standard reasoning, there is no legitimate justification for offending people with slurs towards their race, gender, sexual orientation or religion. There is also no legitimate justification for people to be offended by words which are not directed at maligning anyone.

These are simply my views on the subject. I understand to some degree that certain things are considered unacceptable to some people, however I have no such feelings for myself therefore I am not willing to accept their view being imposed upon me for no valid reason and am unwilling to make the effort as such. Watching what I say in public in LOTRO has a valid reason - I don't want to get suspended/banned. Watching what I say at the grocery store has no reason.

I am not trying to offend anyone with this post, simply explaining my reasoning, which as I mentioned is not standard due to several psychological factors which I feel no need to disclose in public.

Yes, clearly their minds will be irreparably damaged by my masterful use of language solely due to the inclusion of words considered profane by some.

Just to add to this statement... My parents swore in front of me all the time. I knew they were bad words, and I knew I wasn't allowed to say them. Those were grown up words. Kids aren't as stupid as people seem to think they are.

Nice try, but those online translation thingies are notoriously bad when it comes to translating sentences or expressions. What you are looking for is "probeer vloeken in het Nederlands, dat is lachen".

I feel that if everyone used the same filter they use in day to day life to determine what sort of language to utter, then we'd all be happier for it. Sure, I'll let profanity fly once in a while with most of my coworkers and close friends, but I would never say anything vulgar or potentially offensive in mixed company. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't know how to do this in real life, but it's a good rule of thumb here and there.

Because the profanity filter's existance doesn't excuse the breaking of rules. And as has been said REPEATEDLY, it simply filters a lot of perfectly acceptable words. Like oh, my personal favorite, the hunter's skill 'penetrating arrow'.

they should just remove the filter then, there's no point in having it from what it looks like. If you're offended by swears you're still probably going to turn it off
