It seems like it should have one, but it doesn't.
Would be a great help in raids and stuff...

No way. That is one big reason why I left WoW. DPS meters made WoW seem more like keeping up a quota on damage. Got to the point to where it wasn't fun anymore. I really hope we never see this feature in this game.

Yeah, in wow people got so crazy over the dps meters..so i really hope that we never see it in this game too. If you want them that badly then i'd suggest you going back to wow? Also it always seemed that most of the people that were so caught up in the dps meters were little children...

Maybe it is because the whole boom on the concept of DPS meters come from WoW? I played a lot of MMO before WoW and I never saw a concept like that, nor ever needed it.
If people think DPS meters is a great tool for raiders (which I am not saying it is not), is because you can calculate how much DPS you need against a boss to down him in X number of secs/mins.
To me its like forget the game, lets just go play with a calculator to achieve the same goal.

I want them, and would be willing to bet we will have them in game at some point.
To the OP. Basically, we could have them now, but Turbine is rolling out a really stripped down version of the tools coders need to write those types of add-ons. They will continue to allow more and more data to leak through to the writers/community and one day you will get dps meters, healing marks and threat scores. This is the LUA scripting you may have heard about in the F2P beta or on these forums.
There are some really neat tools coming down the pipeline now, Buffbars ect which will soften up alot of people to the thought of using plug-ins.
Its just a matter of time.

No, don't go there please.
No offense to you, but my opinion of this is - if you're not competent enough to tell if someone is or isn't pulling their weight in your group without a meter, then you have no business judging them for their performance in the first place, especially if you're the group leader.

Might as well get used to these types of posts ... You'll be seeing plenty of them when the flood gates open up in a few weeks
IMO this game isn't about how much damage you can do, but how well you can contribute to a group.
DPS meters would go against the group-play atmosphere, as people are wanting to do the most damage, as opposed to being an asset to their team members.

It's this mentality that is why I hope we never see this feature. Especially the word "fail". One thing that I love about this game is that if you wipe your average pug will just get back on it's feet and try it again. Not by referring to someone as "fail".
I don't miss those days in WoW and I have no desire to see it here.

Hopefully it won't be just dps meters as that would only point out failure of dps because we all know healers and tanks can't fail.
Ditto that. If you can't look at a group's performance and suss out its strengths and weaknesses (both individually and overall), you're in no position to even comment on anyone else's performance. Odds are you're the weak link, as well.
Also: DPS meters can be misleading. There's a hell of a lot more to group cohesion than how much damage people are doing. A champ camping Clobber to stop induction moves will do less damage than one who's using both the skill and his Fervour pips freely. I know there are fights in the game where Champ #2 is getting your whole group killed, where Champ #1 is contributing to a win. DPS meter says to boot #1, though.
Also-also: DPS meters can be distracting. Champ #1 (above) might very well look at his DPS meter and say, "Oh, hell! Champ #2 is totally kicking my ***. I'd better step up my game." Suddenly he's spamming Clobber instead of saving it to interrupt inductions. His DPS catches up, but the group wipes 'cause Spikyshoulders McStinkytroll got off his "I'll smoosh your giblets!" attack. DPS meter says he did a better job, though.

I don't think we really need a DPS meter. But, as a Tank, it sure would be nice to have an Aggro meter of some sort. Talk about flying blind...
