I would say Melkor/Morgoth - but his blood was not spilled - he was casted into the void ...

Well, technically they did hew off some parts of him and drag him to valinor to be judged, so I took that to mean that some blood was spilled (not that he was killed)

But more importantly I couldn't get any other way to get the rhymes to work :P

Foul creatures in the south, hardened warriors to the west. A great power up north, only to the east do I have a little peace.

Mhhh ... I am going to accept it - I should have been more specific. I was thinking of "Rohan" when I made the riddle (that's why I asked what and not who).
Should have not been hasty and thought of how to exclude related answers!

hmm... well, the token of Horse upon green is the symbol of the House of Eorl, not so much the land of Rohan. the kingdoms of Middle Earth (Gondor included) had fiefs, so Erkenbrand for example probably had his own symbol, much like Dol Amroth has it's swan-ship, even if such a symbol is not mentioned. this is why I was unsure of the answer.
