Is lord of the rings online better then world of warcraft?
Is lord of the rings online better then world of warcraft?
Some say yes. Some say no. Try it for yourself and see what you think. You're hardly likely to get an unbiased opinion here after all.
in what way?
are apples better than bananas?
is honda better than toyota?
is mustard better than ketchup?
are troll posts better than drunk posts?
The only thing I can tell you is that I enjoy LOTRO. I've never played the other game and don't intend to, so I have no idea which is "better". What you're asking for is an opinion. And you're going to get a very biased one here.
Best way to answer that question is to try both games out for yourself. Nobody can answer it but you because each person has their own opinion. : )
Edit:
Oh yeah, and apples are WAY better than bananas. No contest there.
Paint the Sky with Stars
Yes, since starting Lord of the Rings Online, that nasty itch went away completely, I've stopped spontaneously sobbing while at work, and I have apparently won the Nigerian national lottery.
I have played LOTRO for a while now. I never played WoW. A little while ago, I thought, well everyone talks about it let me see what this thing is. So I download the WoW free trial. I played the intro. I deleted it. Bleh!
Just my two cents
Better how? Better for whom?
WoW certainly is larger than LotRO and makes more money. That's because it appeals to the lowest common denominator. LotRO has a smaller target audience, but for that target audience nothing compares to it.

Depends what you like to do.
WoW does some things better, LOTRO other things better.
LOTRO is more casual/fluff/community/RP oriented (housing, cosmetics, etc...) while WoW is more raid oriented and have way more content for that playstyle. WoW PvP is also way better balanced and more varied than LOTRO's.
Just like LOTRO![]()
I played WoW (from launch to about two years ago, 2009). I play LotRO (from about two years ago, 2009, to now). My opinion is evident on which is in the past tense and which is in the present tense.

Alt problem? *twitch* I ain't got no Alt problem! I can stop any time!
It is entirely dependant upon what you like to do. You can download and try LOTRO free to play. You can try a free trial of World of Warcraft. Based on your own definition of 'fun factor' make your own decision which you prefer. That's the best way to go about these things.![]()

In addition to:
Cirra Ceemstress, 72 Hobbit Hunter
Cyrawyn, 75 Woman Captain
Keharra Thistleknott, 38 Hobbit Warden
Kyari, 43 Elf Runekeeper
Kyradriel, 37 Elf Loremaster
Kyrafern, 29 Woman Champion
Kyre Thistleknott, 29 Hobbit Burglar
Keralin, 28 Hobbit Guardian
i would say, imho and for me personally, YES LoTRO is much better than 'The Game that shall not be named'
However having said that, there are a few element in 'TGTSNBN' which i totally admire the devs for coming up with.
The one i'm thinking of the most, is the Instance Join thing they have.
From what has been explained to me, if someone is wanting to do an instance there is an ingame facility which searches for other players lff'ing for that instance from across ALL SERVERS and hooks everyone up, and off they go.
so if there are say 30 servers, there is only 1 ie BG instance that everyone from across all servers join.
Imagine the benefits to low populated servers, or servers where pugs are harder to find for the more difficult end game instances.
Absolute Genius!
Why havent our Devs thought of that?![]()

As others have said, that's a well-nigh impossible question to answer without any parameters specified. One thing I would point out to you is that one of the most important aspects of any MMO is the community - it can make or break one's enjoyment of a game. I've no idea how one would judge one community versus another, but here's a thought: go on over to the WoW boards and post an identical question and see how *they* handle it. See if they respond with the same respect for you and the question. Come back and let us know.![]()
I got as far as contemplating a free WOW trial and checking out a couple of trailers - then I immediatly went back to LOTRO. I'm not sure why, but the trailers for WOW felt very childish to me - kind of like a 3D version of Runescape. I find Middle Earth a more mature, creative and vibrant world to live my online life in!![]()
As a endgame player. No its not.
If Lotro was able to give Lui, Jwbarry, Orion and Co a blank check book and probably 5 more bodies, Lotro would be the best endgame in the industry.
But, we dont live in that world heh.

i have no idea but apparently my account has been hacked 4 times this year and counting
but seriously if you want to know if lotro is better or worse than any other game then you should give it a try, its free after all and youve got nothing to loose except your sanity and youll loose that in moria
if lotro dose anything better than any other mmo its the community of nothing else and for some the community makes the game as much as anything else![]()
Blissfully smoking pipe-weed together on Snowbourn since 14/04/07spend all day smoking pipeweed and dreaming of gold
I don't really see how the two can stand side by side. I guess because they are both MMOs they stand under scrutiny together, but I don't consider them the same genre at all other than the MMO piece.
It would be like asking if Tetris is better than Quake2.
This became even more exacerbated when LOTRO went F2P. The themes, content, pacing, story, structure, payment models, system requirements, subsystems... all of it is so different.
After saying all that... I do grant LOTRO a nod over games that create new IPs. Turbine struck oil in obtaining the LotR lore and that is something other develepors are going to have to figure out a way to beat. Even newer games with cutting edge engines, modular code, and gobs of features for the player base... they have to find a way to beat LOTRO on the story. Throwing a bunch of orcs and elves together doesn't equal something fun to sit in front of![]()
Better ?
Is a lobster better than a hot dog ?
Ask an adult and the response will almost certainly be different than that of a seven year old.
Different demigraphics have different likes and dislikes. Personally I found WoW a bit childish and cartoony, but that is relative to my preferences.
