Hmm... well I've pretty much been able to grow a full beard since the middle of high school so I've never had to "try" and get the facial hair to grow. It just sorta comes regardless of whether I want it or not

A blessing when I want to rock the beard, but a curse during the times I've had to stay clean-shaven (military, working for the Hyatt SFO, etc). My advice? Work w/ what you've got and find a style that fits you proper~

The thing about "riding fast" is that while you may be faster than many, there is always going to be someone out there faster than you. My outlook on cycling is to ride as much as I can & to the best of my ability within the time allotted. I'm not a pro by any means (as my 9-6 will attest to), but I do take my riding seriously & try to put in around 150~200 miles weekly. Lord willing, I hope to ride well into my later years... And when they finally manage to get me off the bike it'll be to put me in the ground~

So I'd be inclined to agree with you: Tan lines DNE = Fast, but are rather a by-product of putting in a decent amount of time riding out in the sun.

Yeah that is a picture of me in the pro days hehe. That was the Utah tour Time Trial in....erm....2009 I think. And yes, I wasn't the fastest rider on the day there in Utah.

Obviously I needed more defined tan lines!

The reason I chide is that it was a common theme, even in high level bike racing circles, to equate the best tan lines to the fastest bike racer. Some would even go as far as to hike up their shorts, jersey's, helmets, socks....everything in order to have the "best" tan lines.

This theory of tan lines = speed is difficult to prove. It provided a good excuse to move south each winter to test the theory. The theory held some truth...If you ride outside more you do get faster -- but it doesn't get any easier.

Ironically that statement has been my favorite LeMond quote (and signature on the forums) for many a year.
