I know you're trying to help, but really, we DO have a right to expect to be able to play when the servers are available, patch or no patch. Especially when some are patched and playing and others of us are still waiting to even be able to download the patch.

During those very few times when Turbine allowed us to patch early, there wasn't all this upset, confusion, and in some cases, anger. Those updates went nearly flawlessly. It really isn't that hard, but in this very thread Sapience indicated that they aren't going to be doing that any more. The reasons given make no sense so I'm not even going to reiterate them.

The whole point is that Turbine have the ability to make the patch and access process smooth, but they refuse to do so, for whatever reasons. Some of us are here pointing out that we find that unacceptable.

Sapience, you still haven't answered this question:

Should we be restarting the launcher if it says 'A connection attempt failed', or should we let it auto-retry?

Isengard will be there when you get back... or sometime thereafter. I know it's not how you planned to celebrate your birthday - but honestly? Real Life is more important than any game. Real life I get in abundance. 80 hour work weeks, tons of social interaction outside of work. This game is the "cake."

But I appreciate your advice on behalf of the truly addicted. I am merely the disappointed.

Reminds me of the time my dear mum called me for second breakfast; but we had many visitors who needed to eat too. So many hungry tummies to fill that by the time I got served anything it was already time for elevenses. Yet I hadn't begun to eat second breakfast yet, but everyone around me was already enjoying elevenses. I was so cross that I refused to eat anything at all! Surely my mum could have planned this better!

I sulked off; tummy rumbling all the way. But a hungry hobbit doesn't last very long, and eventually I decided to head back home in time for luncheon. By that time many of the guests had departed, and I was free to eat as much as I could handle. I will tell you, that meal was one of the best I ever ate.

Question: Did Turbine decide to re-release the gold spammers of SoA a few days early as well? Should I open a new thread for this, or am I within the boundries of non- derailment of thread?

No, one day of VIP is not equal to 50 cents. I can't buy one day of VIP separately. I paid 13 euros for full month and I expect to have VIP access for a full month. If I can't connect to the servers for a whole day, I expect 1 day of VIP to be added to my account.

I've already patched before the servers were. It doesn't have to check for updates, but it still does, so I'm in the line for the patching server.

At least I won't spend a lot a of it's time when I get to the patching.

I've been playing MMO's since late 90's and this is one of the worst patch process I've ever seen. People saying this is the 'norm' for updates/expansions really are being silly and/or ignorant to how the rest of the market works...[and no I'm not using just WoW as a refrence, but also FFXI/FFXIV/Aion/Rift/etc].

I've got a feeling this is just the start of the problems.

I'm going to stick around and watch it implode.

While I can certainly understand the frustration associated with delays and having to wait for patching and connection related delays, what I cannot understand and what will not be tolerated is anyone who feels the need to insult, provoke or otherwise be offensive towards other players or turbine staff. If it continues the community team will very happily go back through the entire thread and infract accordingly and fully.

Let it run. That closing out and restarting bit was for when the patch servers were down earlier this morning.

I guess you're right, in the past Turbine has been much better at launching than other games. I guess I'm just so used to it by now that the release is just average, rather than great. I just expected it to go somewhat like this so I'm not disappointed. Like I said, you should demand your money's worth and for the game to be playable. Unfortunately, it just doesn't happen for whatever reason in most MMOs. And I don't know how soon that is going to change.

Rift was pretty awful for the couple of months I played it too, though they could have changed it since then. But even then, I was just like, eh.

Seriously, do you folks hear yourselves?

How to deal with remote servers: If you can't log in, either wait for the server to clear without staring at it and getting upset. Or stop trying to log in, and log in later.

In my experience, this technique works roughly 100% of the time.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, with current technology, for servers to cope with periodic overflow. So just be patient, and patch and play when you can.

You know how computers totally work instantly and do whatever you want them to do? That was in Star Trek. Not in 2011.
