And for all those turbine *** licking guys ...
i work in IT and we do often migrations of +1000 servers from osx to os Y and/or virtualise servers of huge ompanys and we all know something can go wrong, but this shouldn't be described as a minor thing.

If my company provided such service to our customers it would be sued immediately and be broke in a week.

That's great, junior. Your coherent and succinct argument makes the idea of you working in IT entirely 100% believable.

I just think a lot of this probably could have been completely avoided by releasing the expansion on a dvd and making it available at retail or through online pre-order. Companies that aren't prepared to deal with fully digital distribution shouldn't arrange their business model around it.

Rift had a much better idea - it would give you an estimate time of connection based on the number of people that were in front of you in the queue.

Seriously.....I've got 2 machines that are both patched fully, but now cannot get past the dreaded red x on this one.
I've restarted the client so many times now I've lost count.
I hope that from Turbine's side, you are taking all this on board and know what to expect next time.

I don't think you'd want the people hired to manage to forums to work on new content, given the fact that those both require completely different skill sets.

How many millions of your customers try to hit the login servers every minute for the entire span of any of your downtime?

How many trying to patch up withing 2 minutes of the end of the downtime?

Sounds like a lot of other payers are, too.

OK, time for some fun while awaiting the patch - limericks!

There was a young player named Eagle,
Who wanted to play a game most regal,
    But the servers are down,
    Making him frown,
And sounding a bit like Smeagol.

    Or haikus?

    Time to fight, my friends.
    Saruman will fear us all!
    Gah! Red X of Doom!

Hey, uh, Turbine guys? You don't blacklist us for bad poetry, right? :-)

my bet is that while client is w8ing its trying to reconnect, so U need to be lucky again to find another window

I was w8ing for 7 and half hour for first one, updated programs, now w8ing on Examine Data, so its seems I will have my client updated after next 7 hours, and then Ill have to wait to connect to server

I hope you understand that community management and content development is done by separate people. Infracting people doesn't take away time of those which make new content.

I hope that from Turbine's side, you are taking all this on board and know what to expect next time.

Restarting the client when you get the red X after having patched will do nothing to speed things up. It will most likely slow you down. If you are patched simply allow the client to retry normally.

We are seeing steady increases in the number of players per world and it is across all servers. So the patching servers and login servers are working as expected and players are getting into the game.
