On a wild guess, I'm guessing the alternative open-source launcher doesn't try to hit the patch servers or update the game. Thus, you don't get stuck in the Connection Failed state if you've already patched and are looking to login, but neither will you patch via that launcher if you haven't already.

I'm just making a wild guess here, though.

I am now in the game. The trick is to be actually be patient. I started the launcher, waited for 4 hours without touching it and was just watching Law Abiding Citizen (killer movie) and when it finished, there was my login screen! Am now in the emptiest Bree i've seen since i started playing but FPS is perfectly fine etc.

So yeh, softly softly catchy monkey!, fo serious

    They never listened to it.

I guess they rather spend DEV time to store-upgrades or to changing the basic game-mechanisms so you need to buy more store items, then to spend time on helping their customers.

Amazing how less they care about their customers, simply amazing.
Which will not help since the patch client still checks to see if you have current files before you log onto the game.

Well some really simple stand alone patching would solve that in a blink, you'd think Turbine would learn some time.. When have a launch like this ever worked without people going nuts?

I wouldnt mind waiting for the patching, but as I have patched already (8 hours or so ago) I would like to enter the game now pls. But sadly, I cannot, as I must wait with the patchers. Why couldnt Turbine put some different cue for those that are ready to enter the game. Sigh.

Delivering huge data over the web to millions of people is the job of companies like Akamai and Amazon S3 to name 2 of them.

Amazon S3 Cloud costs 15cents / Gigabyte of download but everyone would get the patch instantly. Now everyone knows the price of our 'patience' for Turbine.

    Hey Sapience,

Please let your guys know that the time stamp is off by a few hours, I know its not 8pm back east right now and I know if server's dont have times lining up right, it can cause problems.

Sep 26, 2011 20:17 EST Due to high demand players may experience long wait times or connectivity issues while patching or logging into the game. We are working to increase performance and will continue to do so as needed. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sep 26, 2011 18:37 EST Rise of Isengard, the newest expansion to The Lord of the Rings Online is now live on our servers! Enjoy the game! Please review the release notes to see what's changed.

That's me, I had quit my sub but came back to pre-order RoI. I don't really care if I have to wait today, but I just wish I had known so I could have gone and taken a nap instead of pulling out my hair trying to log in. lol

My launcher is stuck on the red 'x' waiting for a connection so it can begin patching.

I have considered my options and I find them as follows:

1 - Tear my clothes, put ash in my hair, moan and bewail my terrible fate as I stare hopelessly at the retry counter time after time, minutes turning into hours as I begin to shiver with the first onset of withdrawal.

2 - Watch TV and eat ice cream.

After proper consideration, I am now heading to the freezer in order to execute option 2. Yum.

Went very smooth so far. 15 minutes of waiting to start, then downloaded quickly and installed, game launches without problems, there's quite a bit of people at Laurelin.

My only complaint is it's raining outside Trestlebridge!

Sorry but these is no excuse for this. I tried and tried to think of something but in the end Turbine knew this would happen and decided it was better than spending money on upgraded equipment. They figure in a couple days this will all blow over so why bother preventing it. What are you going to do quit? Prob not right so why worry if you cant get in for a few days. Just irritating to me. id rather they just kept the servers down all day than make me sit and stare at a red X for going on 10 hours now.

Has anyone stuck at "Examine Game Data" progressed to patching yet?
