Could be. Could be that they put great thought into the required bandwidth, and didn't take into account concurrent connections.

The tales of patching I've heard here are incredibly fast for a new expansion day, once they start. It's the getting a connection in the first place that seems to be the issue.

Edit - eg I got to 40% whilst writing those two paragraphs, after 8 hours of waiting to connect!

well turbine has my understanding but my not quite my patience. 11 hours of seeing that GD red X is really starting to tick me off. With the way this thread is growing still faster than I can read it, it seems to me that the "additional servers" that turbine is adding slowly to catch up to demand is not being added fast enough. I fully expected a few hours wait.... 11 is approaching bull****.

Well, if they applyed the patch after login the problem would be solved.. Also that would make it possible to allow V.I.P's to get the patch before the rest of the crowd as would be expected..

What these people are attempting to do today is pretty difficult! The number of hits they are receiveing is huge and the volume of data they are transmitting is rediculous. All in all its hard!

I have played this game from day 1. Its robust, low error rates and a smooth play. Only issues were at big releases like this. Come on, they have a pretty good track record and if you dont think so, then spend some time looking at the industry a bit harder and then you may be impressed. I am!

Yes, they could always do a better job on days like this, but its only going to give you minor grief for a few hours. Big deal!!

And for my professional opinion, my fee is only 5000 Turbine points. Thank you.
    Not my problem.

I have not been able to get out of work yet so I can start patching! Turbine should have contacted my employer to get me off work or scheduled this for a day I already had off work. After all I am VIP...

1.5 hours to connect, then 30 minutes and counting "Examining Game data". I have faith that patience will prevail!

Trying not to get impatient but why have 3 kinnies who just fired up the launcher about an hour ago already managed to patch and get in while me and my missus are still stuck at the connect thingy for hours on end.

Luckily I know this feeling will disappear the second one of the clients manages to connect!

Come on Turbine! Feed those Hamsters some more!

Given that I (like many people, by the sounds of it) am sitting at at endless connect-fail-retry loop, before I even get a chance to enter my username and password, it would be a bit hard for the servers to give me higher priority for connection. If the problem was only occurring after the login process, you might have a point.

Keep your launcher open whether you have patched or not. It worked for me and it finally patched and I am now loading into the game.

Sitting at 25% Game Data right now, though it's almost 1:AM here and school isn't canceled somehow in honor of the Isengard launch.
