I didn't take a particularly long time over it, I just realised quickly that he was offering quests at random points or kills (not sure on kills) and of course noticed the new deed pop up. Put two and two together and with a smidgen of common sense it's obvious what needs to be done for the deed.
Without any special exploration of the area I had all the quests pop and completed with no trouble whatsoever.

If you rush through areas determined to get to level cap then of course that's fine, but if you miss things then surely the only person to blame is yourself?
I for one really enjoyed having a companion along for the ride, exploring the forest with him and offering me 'free' xp on the move. If all these complaints mean we never see something similar again it will be to the detriment of the game.

How many of those that complained there aren't enough quests to get to 75 missed these sorts of things I wonder?

(Also FYI the red warning before final hand in clearly states that the NPC will not be summonable again and that any unfinished quests will not be completable. The deed is clearly linked to the NPC and simply by completing just two of his quests it becomes obvious. I'm sure everyone will have this auto completed and we ll never see a similar NPC again, a real shame frankly.)

    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

Let me say that I'm one of the people that was affected by a random bug which prevented me from getting the quest "hunting the pack" .. while everyone in my fellowship did get it and the deed both. I did the same exact things they did, we were all together but my ally simply did not give it to me. I did not know about the quest until after I turned in my whistle and noticed my deed missing an item.. had no idea it was a quest even until I asked someone. When I turned in the whistle there were no other quests left to turn in and none from my ally that were available. I'm missing only this one quest "hunting the pack" and I'm certainly not the only one... yet I did everything and should normally have it, along with the deed.

There is nothing wrong with the concept, just the implementation. There is nothing at all that directly indicates there may be more quests one hasn't found in the quest text. I read every single quest, including the text you get when you click on the NPC again after accepting AND the text in the quest log.

The ONLY way to figure this out is to check the deed. But guess what? Not everyone checks the deed log all the time, especially in a new area. I often just leave the icons alone and let the deeds go by.

I'm sure when you put two and two together after reading this whole thread (which you obviously didn't) along with some common sense, you'll see a lot of people have missed this and they weren't rushing through the area. It's an obscure warning and the mechanic goes against 99% of the content/deeds in the game - mainly that you can go back and finish them at some later point in time if you miss something.

There is no need to auto complete this deed, stop using a mechanic like this, or anything else. All I want is the opportunity to go back and complete it somehow along with a future change to the warning at the end. The warning should include a mention of the deed and to check it to make sure you have all the quests if wanted them. That's really not asking a lot and is far closer "common sense" than your example.

For those who are saying you can use another Andreg, you cannot.

After bribing someone with 10 gold, I went to the Hunting the Pack location with someone who had NOT acquired the quest, and found that he could get the quest and I could not.

There is no way to complete the deed once you've turned in the whistle.
Thus, it is forevermore the Failtacular.

Now, with that being said: Again, those who are posting in here harping on us who are NOT complaining but merely pointing out poor design, poor customer service, and poor implementation, please move along, you are not wanted here.

Don't waste your time trying to complete this garbage, just pray that someone competent fixes the issue.

I'm curious about one thing. All the people that are angry about not completing the deed: do you complete every Instance Deed too or do you just ignore those? Because if you are doing those deeds too there are a lot more raiders out there than I expected. And if you aren't doing those why is a Bree deed different than an Ost Dunhoth deed?

I try to complete all deeds, including instances and raids. There are also people who don't worry about group deeds but do care about deeds that can be completed solo.

I care about completing deeds because I'm a completionist. It has nothing to do with being a raider or not. If there's a deed, I must complete it. It's like wanting to max every faction/reputation to Kindred. If I can do it, I will. I only have The Eldgang and Theodred's Rider's left :-P

There's just something nice about an empty deed log and gives me a sense of accomplishment. Not to mention the extra Turbine Points..

My kin has an "OCD Group" every once in a while. We go around completing deeds to get the meta deed mounts. It's a lot of fun and we dork around in Ventrilo while doing it.

    That's not the game's fault. "I can't be bothered to <insert action>" =/= "the game is flawed."

I find it ironic that people who didn't even care about the deed enough to read it are now upset when they can't do it.

On a different note, I've been trying to piece together why some people can use others' Andregs and some people can't, and if might depend where you are in the quest line. I believe that you can use other people's Andregs right up until you complete the quest at Saeradan. I know for sure that if you have a whistle you can receive quests from your own Andreg OR someone else's (I had an incident where my Andreg was lost somewhere fighting something, but my friend's Andreg was with us and I received a quest from him). I know that the red lettered warning says you can't do those quests after you complete the quest at Saeradan. However, is there a time between hitting the 'continue' button and actually completing the quest where you have no whistle but can still take quests from other people's Andregs? I believe this is the scenario where you bunged up but still have a grace period to fix it.

No, you were telling people who would like this changed that they should not voice their opinion. That is rude. It is also your opinion, not a statement of fact. And if you are referring to the part about Turbine not changing anything as being a statement of fact, then you are ignorant of the FACT that Turbine HAS made changes based on player feedback before, and that this is why people give feedback. However, that feedback needs to be posted in a mature, intelligible and non-insulting manner, which is something most threads of this type are lacking. This one...not so bad, at least on the original post. I haven't done this quest line yet and I don't remember the Annuminas one that well aside from the fact that there WERE side quests (was there a deed for that one?), so I can't really comment on it past that.

It's not about blaming the devs or myself. As countless people have stressed the concept is great, the implementation is poor. The devs have to take responsibility for the mechanic, and it seems they were given feedback in beta testing about it having the potential for problems yet still continued.

Your original comments made out that everything was obvious but yet you had to use google to figure it all out, so wasn't that obvious was it? Additionally you say it's everyone's own fault for not reading the quests. Clearly you haven't read the majority of the posts which very clearly say that people were confused by the mechanic despite reading everything. With so many people doing the same 'wrong' thing it indicates an issue.

If I had read this thread before I did the quests I would have been able to finish the deed, but the deed linked to quests triggered at random points wasn't clear at the time. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

First of all, I go back and read deeds after I have completed an area. So don't try to force your assumptions on me, they're completely wrong. I do care to the read the deeds, I just don't care to stop in the middle of a quest and read them. Go figure.

When you implement a mechanic that goes against 99% of the content in the game and it generates this amount of confusion and reaction, then there is a very good chance it was a mistake to implement that mechanic in such a way. Looking at the posts, you can see we did not rush through anything.

Turbine has made extreme effort lately to cater to a wide range of players, and the implementation of this mechanic goes against the effort. So it is flawed, unless Turbine is now saying they don't care and people can go spin.

I always find it ironic when people think how they play a game is the one and only right way to play, especially when that game intentionally caters to many different play styles.

Having a deed for every little quest, instance, raid, and festival is the real epic fail here. What is with the deeds?! Seriously. It's like the devs were told they will only get laid once for every deed they add to LOTRO.

Do most players really finish every deed in the game and their deed logs are all nice, clean, pristine pages of nothing for every category or am I missing something here?

I get having a few slayer and location deeds for an area for virtues but let's be reasonable here. A deed for a temp quest giver that doesn't even work properly.

    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

I've just played through on an alt (and completed the deed this time) and have realised another misleading part that may have contributed to me missing it on my main....

The first quest I get from Andreg says to scout the path to blah blah.....so on my main I followed the path/road that goes around the forest as it was the only visible path (and scouted it). That would explain why I didn't find the extra quests. Serves me right for not mindlessly following the quest tracker eh? I read the quest and did what it said

I summoned Andreg and headed for the scouting point on the map, picked up 3 of his quests on the way (corruption, orcs, and traps) and when I reached the point on the quest guide I got the quest window sayign he was finished here, but the red warning text screamed out to me, and I decided to see if I missed any quests before I let him go. Luckily I didn't get hasty and click continue, instead I clicked the x in the corner to close the window. This thread came up on a search for the list of Andreg quests. I was missing the crows and dogs, and you have to go well past where you woudl think you'd have to go to trigger those quests, since Andreg reached the end of his road about halfway there. It woudl be easy to miss this deed if you don't read carefully and click continue though.

What an amazingly condescending piece of commentary. Allow me to respond:

"I cannot emphasize more to EXPLAIN THE QUESTS. If you don't, then the players will miss what _you_ think the game is about because they will be playing the game as they've been playing it for years. Which you seem to think has changed."

Telling large numbers of your long-time customers "lrn2readnub" is hardly an exercise in community-building.

In my case I probably spent 30 minutes running around and occasionally clicking on the NPC (because he was only showing the completed quest status that would wipe out the deed) trying to find the "Hunting the Pack" trigger location. I probably spent another 30 hopping off my horse every little bit to check for the quest while following the paths and then riding directly from the start and finish locations with no luck.

My thanks to Fillur for his post (#53) detailing exactly where he triggered the "Pack" quest as that finally worked for me.

Following "basically bee-line to the quest guide, which crosses the discoverable hotspots for all quests" did not, in fact, cross all of them. And I did exactly that multiple times. I have no idea how big all the hotspots are, but I missed the "Pack" multiple times.

Lastly, I also had the pleasure of tripping the traps 3 or 4 times (since they no longer show up even with "Item Names" enabled in the UI once you've completed that quest)...and when you're riding around, hopping off the horse, clicking an NPC, getting back on the horse over and over while you search for a magic hotspot, getting rooted for a minute is beyond frustrating.

In short Berephon: The basic quest design is sound. The execution is flawed. Your condescending attitude is insulting.

There is a sound and reasonable way,
"My Playstyle sorry three star excuse" way,
    and the Turbine way.

If a Deed is designed to need quest text reading aware players, Tracking an Old Goat is flawlessly executed and Implemented.

    That is all.

Yes, especially wheb you arrive to Andreg, and talking only about RoI, you had 5 completed deeds for exploration, 4 completed for quests as before (Do xx quests in YY), 4 completed slayers, started 3 exploration, 4 quests and 11 slayers... ok we read etc. BUT seriously, a deed we can NOT complete this way?

If i have most to read than to play, i prefer read again all the Tolkien's books than "manuals for new game mechanics".

And i'm bored of the quests that ask to do other quests... for chain quests, in my opinion the best thing was the little to read page after page.

Well I suppose the fix for this will have to wait in line behind them fixing the "Headcount" SoM deed right? I raced through the intro area to SoM and my main was left stuck on 89/100 for headcount. Ever since that moment I have made a conscious effort read all text that is in red.

While I do hope that this does get fixed somehow to allow people to complete it, I fear that it may get left behind much like Headcount.
