    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

    I had hope.

I cancelled Andreg's quest, logged out (and apparently lost the deed) and in frustration threw away the whistle to cancel the initial quest. Then I repeatedly fish-slapped Amlan.

Picked up the quest line again no probs.
Getting the quests for the deed and completing no issues.

BUT no deed is in my quest log.
And Andreg is with me in the Rohirrim Scout Camp - I thought he despawned if you go outside his area and I'm pretty certain the camp was outside his area (could be wrong though).

What happened when you destroyed the whistle?

Wow, if only I had known that I could not log out until all the quests were finished. Yep, I'm in the same boat as everyone else that wants to finish a deed that has disappeared and quests that will not complete...Now do I keep the whistle or throw it out?

You keep the whistle. You can call Andreg in South Gravenwood to help you harvest nodes and hides while you're waiting for the patch.

Patch tomorrow. Unknown whether a "fix for the fix" will be in it. I'm no longer able to test things since the original fix worked for me. So somebody else needs to pick up the banner here and carry on.

    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

I logged prior to completion, but my problem is interesting, although probably falling in the same rank as the new known issue.

I was able to talk to Amlan, however.com I only picked up the three quests that I had not completed prior to this fix. I completed those, but now have no way to complete Eyes in the Forest or A Dark and Lonely Forest. They're just sitting there with no way to advance to closure.

I checked my completed quest log and it has all seven quests checked as completed. Additionally, the deed does not show up in my deed log, completed or incomplete.

eta Forgot to mention, I did get the message on my screen saying I had scouted the trail when I got to the Rohirrim camp. But nothing happened, other than big white letters

Wow, so i logged on after the patch and instantly finished the deed (even though i did it the "real" way before) and got a Plain Heritage Rune of Legend, and 5 Turbine Points. I probably also got one rank up on Honour, but im not sure about that. Now the deed is finished twice in my log.

This is just for anyone that was confused (or had forgotten like me) to start the quest to finish the "Tracking an Old Goat" Deed.

Go to Amlan in the Gravenwood to restart the Andreg questline and get the whistle. 83.1s 14.6w.

Pretty sure Drugrir is unrelated to Tracking an Old Goat. The first time you kill him he drops an Evil Thing, starting a quest that you turn in at Saeradan. I guess he's associated with Goat because he's near where you get the "You've scouted" message after completing everything.

Has anybody figured out yet whether they got double Honour for the double finish?

Yep. Checked three toons now and all three now have the deed completed twice, and they do indeed seem to have received +1 Honour for each one for a total of +2 Honour.

This is occurring even on characters who had completed Tracking an Old Goat on the first try, with its original design, without trouble.

Completed for me on log-in. I happily destroyed the whistle and canceled the other quest still in my log. :-) Thanks for fixing it in a fashion not requiring me to go back there again. ;-)

PS: Edit to add there's only one copy of it complete in my deed log.

    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

Decided to test what would happen with a character that had not completed it prior or even been in the area.

My Champion was just about to enter the Gravenwood but I hadn't played him since. So he had never even seen Amlan or this quest line.

Upon completion, he only got the (correct) +1 Honour, and one deed completed in his deed log. I then logged out and back in to see if he'd get the "re-completion" applied. Nope.

So, it does appear that those who completed it prior to this update will get credit for completing it twice. Those who encounter this quest-line going forward will not get the "double completion."

I'd urge everyone not to start feeling all entitled to this boon of additional Honour. It's entirely possible that the "double-completion" could be reverted out. I wonder if they'll yank the duplicate completion once they're satisfied that the vast majority of those affected by this issue have logged in and gotten the deed completed.

    Best,

    H

True enough - but it's also entirely possible that they wanted to reward people who finished it "correctly" the first time before the screaming and the fixes started. But doing a retro-fix that expects people to have logged in would give more problems down the pike -- people take breaks and vacations, and you wouldn't want them to come back to a borked character. If I were a dev I'd sigh, say "Good enough" and move on to fixing wardens again.

There are almost certain to be people whining about how "unfair" it is that those who completed it prior to today get a "bonus" Honour while those who finish it after today do not.

Though you may be right and Turbine has expended all the time they can on this issue, they do tend to go out of their way to avoid situations that lead to such complaints.

    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

Logged in post patch. Found everything reset back except for Grave Corruption which was marked completed.

Visited Amlan, got the quest and whistle, summond Andreg, started off exploring and Andreg started giving ne the quests.

At this point my flight was called and I logged off with a couple of the quests still in flight.

Logged in again, and while I still had the Deed, Andreg's unfinished quests had disappeared. Fortunetly I still had the whistle, and aon summonig him, Andreg was happy to give me the quests again. Finally finished them all, and I successfully completed the Deed at last.

So, it seems that the Deed is now completable, but there is still an issue associated with logging off if you have any of Andreg's quests open. FOrtunatley th9is is not a teminal condition, and you can start them all again.

    Re: Tracking an Old Goat

Looks like the problem has finally been nailed down, so time to congratulate Turbine for fixing this turkey and a reminder not to do things quite this way in the future.

(And...I'm amused and feel kindly about the extra 5TP on all my characters that completed the deed as originally set up.)
