What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?

Ok this topic is about the background of your characters. So tell us all about your character and the imagination you put into them for a cool background story. I will go first.

My characters I am trying to make it kind of like a family with each character representing a Characteristic of my favorite artist Tarja.

First I will start with my Warden. His name is "Tarjadan Turunen". He is the first hand soldier of Lady Tarja. He protects her lands from shadow. He is to represent Tarja's bravery and might being able to take on many foes at one time. He is the Brother of all my other toons.

Next is my Hunter Tarjmoth Turunen. Brother of Tarjadan. He represents her will to take you by surprise with a swift piercing strike to the heart. He is the scout the one who goes ahead and sees what the enemy is up to.

Next is one of my personal favorites my runes-keeper Tarjwen Turunen. She is sister to Tarjadan and Tarjmoth. She represents the ladies ability to heal the soul. As she heals the fellowships keeping everyone alive at all costs. She also holds all the money which is kind of funny if you think about it. All my toons have like 20 gold except her having close to 100.. :P

Last but not least my up and coming toon Tarjanor Turunen my Lore-master. Sister of Tarjwen, Tarjadan and Tarjmoth. What I like about this one is I feel the Lore-Master truly represents her kindness. A lore-master IN MY opinion is one who is wise yet kind to all. Going out of their way to help living creatures no matter how small. I see I have my lm wearing all white to represent her being pure. Sounds silly but

Anyhow thats what I got so far I wanted to put alot more but I wanted to sum it up as much as I can so people actually read it lol Lets hear some others :P

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?

I have 3 characters currently. I used to have more, but I deleted them due to impatience with the game's grind. Having a story for each character does make playing them more fun, I think. All three girls have backgrounds, histories, and stories. My hunter is from Mirkwood and grew up in the elven court. She is a friend/apprentice (sort of) of Legolas and was in a party of elves that traveled with him to Rivendell. Her adventures begin with that trip.

My rune-keeper's history was more difficult since it's kind of hard to see RKs in Middle Earth, but I like the class so much that I made the effort to give her a story. Basically, she's gifted with words (runes) and has an adventurous spirit. With the need of heroes in dark times, Galadriel gave power to her words that is unusual among elves. Thus her ability to use words to translate into forces that can be used for fighting or healing.

My captain is from Gondor and comes from a military background there. She's a woman, so that is unusual but understandable given her family history. Like my hunter, she comes from the upper crust of society and is well-educated. She was childhood friends with Boromir and Faramir. Kind of a "one of the guys" sort of relationship. She traveled north some time after Boromir had left Minas Tirith and their paths have occasionally crossed since.

I like including the Fellowship members into the histories of my characters. Makes the original story seem more present for me besides being just plain fun. Occasionally, I meet someone in-game that role-plays and one of my girls' stories intersects briefly with theirs. It's nice.

When I first created my main, Nymphonic 5 years ago, the only story I put into her was having a scar on her face because she is a warrior. Other than that, she was nothing more than a bunch of pixels to me.

But as I got involved in Volume 1, going through Bree Land and Staddle, and finding out that I was helping the Fellowship she grew on me. I think she stopped being a toon and became an actual character in October 2007, when I got my gaming rig that could play at Ultra High. I remember it well, I went to the top of Weathertop and looked over the Lone Lands to check out my new graphics card and it was that day that she became Nymphonic, Guardian.

Now I think of her as a weathered veteran that has fought her way from Thorin's Hall to the Great River.

    I love this game.

My "Main" is the leader of the family and clan. While that sounds powerful and controlling, like any "man of the house" it's a glorified way of saying long hours of grinding to provide for the "family". The wife (real life) is busy and plays less, needs new "stuff" and since I play more often, well, here's your new mount! Our son enjoys action. No sense in wasting time farming or in vocations. The alternates are all "in school" and certainly can't be expected to provide for themselves while leveling!

Honestly though, I would not trade a single moment of it since we all have fun together! (Although at times "Married with Children" seems to be my bio with me being Al).

Eukwen left the goldenwood and the world she knew for new music and culture. She ended up finding love with her husband Estellost and the culture of the mortal world. This lead her to want to fight to protect it. Eukwen is kind and giving and wants to be part of the solution and never part of the problem.

When ever I play as Eukwen I try to play positive. My goal is to help make the game fun for everyone around me. I try to avoid negativity and actions that could bring frustration and anger to my fellow players.

My main character is Elendiril Lindonathir, 75 Hunter on Brandywine: Here is my Bio and is based on actual Tolkien Lore.

"Great Grandson of Elurin and Grand Nephew of Elured, twin sons of Nimloth and Dior, who were thought to have perished when abandoned and left to die after being taken during the "SacK of Menegroth by the sons of Feonor, Curufin and Celegorm The Dark. But legend has it that the twins were helped by the animals and taken to the safety of the Woodland Realm. There, Elured later died from the ordeal. But Elurin survived and, as a young man, fell in love with an Elf maiden, were joined and gave birth to a daughter. The daughter, Elendarill, wed an Elvish prince of Lothlorien. She in turn gave birth to a son who, during his travels, met and fell in love with and married an Elvish maiden of Rivendell. The two left Rivendell for Lindon and after establishing their home there, gave birth to their only child, a boy they named Elendiril."

HEY! I thought only I knew about that! You guys are just as bad as Merry, Pippin and Sam knowing Frodo was going to leave the Shire!

Baralur, my main character in this game, is the son of a captain and a noble lady from Gondor. His name comes from both his father's name (Baranir) and the name of the great elven ancestor from his mother's side (Gandelur), who had a romance with a woman of Numenor way back in the Second Age. After some unfortunate events that led to him getting exiled from Gondor (which I'm still trying to hammer out), he journeyed north into Rohan, where he met Denenthera (my other main character), and the two banded together for mutual protection.

Baralur's main "quest," other than defending the good folk of Bree-land from the evil of Angmar, is to recover and reforge the swords wielded by Gandelur and Naruphel, the two lovers from the Second Age.

My little hobbit girl is from Hobbingen and a neighbor of Frodo. She knows him from childhood and forever had a secret crush on him, but he never really seemed to notice her. When he disappeared after Bilbos leaving party, she got worried about him and after a while decided to pack a bag and a shield and to find out what happened and if he is in trouble and she can help him.

Not sure if this is very lore appropriate or what it will lead to in the end, but I like it. She is even asking around for him in the Prancing Pony on a RP server and people seem to enjoy and play along with it.

When I originally created Falibrand, I wanted to play a hobbit who wasn't quite as smart as Samwise. From that seed, the rest of his story grew. I had been playing Filidor for nearly 2 years before Falibrand came long, over on Vilya, and grafted the very small elements of his backstory I had onto Falibrand, so Filidor became Falibrand's uncle. Fal's parents disappeared while tending to their berry patch near the mouth of the Withwindle just outside Haysend, Buckland, leaving him to be raised by his grandparents over in Pincup (so yes, Falibrand grew up in places not on the game map yet!). He took up music as a tie to his father, who was a musician--the lute Falibrand plays was his father's. Joining the Bounders of the Shire has helped ground him and helped him grow a bit wiser, although not much smarter.

Wow you really are sort of obsessed with Tarja, eh? Woman belongs on Broadway, I'll admit.

I never really developed a backstory to my main beyond the initial idea that she had to disguise herself as male in order to fight alongside Legolas (hence the extremely short hair and bosom hiding outfits).

Reading some of these replies, I think I'm going to have to come up with more of a story for her.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?

When I first started playing LOTRO in Nov 2008, i wanted to create a dwarf guardian - my Main character to this day

    Here is his story:

Montis was born in Noglond, a dwarf stronghold in Ered Luin in TA 2950, he is of Durin’s line and his grandfather was Morim. Morim escaped from Erebor when Smaug (the dragon) attacked the kingdom in TA 2770, and settled in Ered Luin. Morim was later slain by Orcs at the Battle of Azanulbizar, during the War between Orcs and Dwarves.

Montis has no parents alive, as the tale told in Noglond, recounts that they were slain by an Orc raiding party whilst mining within the Blue Mountains. Montis childhood was spent in the wilds around Noglond and Gondamon and later he moved to Thorin’s Gate and joined the dwarf garrison there. He excelled at skills with shield and axe, leading many raids against Orcs within Ered Luin, so much so, he was known as Montis Orcbane , even acting as personal Guardian to Dwalin himself, on many occasions.

The evil stirrings within Ered Luin, increasing raids by Orcs and Goblins and the nasty business with the dourhands, have made Montis rethink his role within the dwarf community (which is always very reluctant to help any other race) and due to the fate of his grandfather and parents, he has embarked on a campaign of revenge to rid the world of the the Orc menace. He is determined to find the place where his grandfather died, so his journey to Moria is a priority on this journey of redemption.
He has joined forces with a small group of travellers, each with their own goals and ambitions, but his mission is clear.

If along the way, other creatures get in his way, his shield shall be strong and his axe shall be sharp!

    Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!
    Rider Of The Riddermark (Laurelin)

I suffer from an affliction called fanfictionitis... My main's story is made up, based off inspiration here and there. My main alt has no written story, but is a Hobbit who went to sea to become a pirate minstrel *cough* I have no explanation for WHY she went to sea, but there you have it. I have alts who have detailed stories allowing me to put other peoples characters into this world - Rhibranyhud, or correctly, Rhi Bran y Hud - King Raven of the Wood, is essentially Robin Hood, Hiccuphaddock is essentially Hiccup from "How to Train Your Dragon", and Kaitoukid is essentially the Kaitou KID from Gosho Aoyama's Magic Kaito & Detective Conan manga. *cough* I'm sad, I know. The stories are all in my profile somewhere, if you care to look.

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?

I have tons of characters, and they all have their own stories whether they are solo, duo, trio, or group characters. I guess my "main" main is on Silverlode. Her name is Eodyn. She is a shieldmaiden who was betrothed to one of the Riders of the Mark (Arik) who was killed by a band of orcs who were invading the Westfold. She found him on the battlefield, with his horse Warrior (Warrior's Heart in game since I couldn't have Warrior by itself) standing guard over him to protect him from the Orc scavengers. The horse was gravely wounded in the battle, and is now recovered but still suffers some of the effects and is slow because of it (read Bree horse). The two of them have vowed to kill every orc in Middle Earth if it lies within their power. I may have to give up on poor old Warrior at some point, but so far (Eodyn is level 44 now) he is still fighting right along beside her. Maybe when we get home to Rohan she will put him out to pasture and find a new warhorse to continue her fight. Until then, Orcs beware!

Since I have so many characters, it takes me FOREVER to level them up. My husband and I just hit level 60 on our Main Duo team, and we have been playing since Alpha testing.

Not all of my characters have their stories in their bios, but I know them all. Some of them have evolved and changed over the years, but most stay true to their backstory. That is one reason I have so many characters to begin with. I just play whoever I "feel" like being right then.

    Name: Eärrandir (Seawanderer) class: Loremaster

    From Silmarilion, Akallabêth

Among the Exiles many believed that the summit of the Meneltarma, the Pillar of Heaven, was not drowned for ever, but rose again above the waves, a lonely island lost in the great waters; for it had been a hallowed place, and even in the days of Sauron none has efiled it. And some there were of the seed of Eärendil that afterwards sought for it, because ot was said among the loremasters that farsighted men of old could see from the Meneltarma a glimmer of the Deathless Land.

Eärrandir is one of those Loremaster and he spent much af the third age helping the Númenorean exiles trying to find this remnant of their former home.

Towards the end og the third age he has ventured inlands. Realising that the time of the elves is almost over, he travels the lands gathering what lore about the free people the he can in order to preserve it, so that the stories of the struggles against the shadow in middle-earth not be forgotten.

Ivrenneth comes from a military-scholarly Noldorin family - her great-grandfather was one of the followers of Finrod during the Exile, subsequently became a captain of Nargothrond, and all later generations were involved in Gil-galad's army in some form or another. She is the youngest child of Ivrendir (a scholar and tactician) and Galathel (a retired soldier of Lindon who nearly lost her arm on Dagorlad and settled in Imladris after the war). Unlike her siblings, Ivrenneth decided to break with family tradition and become a minstrel, so she trained with Lindir and then with Talagan in Edhelion. When the Dourhands attacked, she high-tailed out there, mourned her master and went on with her life, but when rumors of Skorgrim's resurrection surfaced, she went back with Elladan and Elrohir's party to set out on her roaring rampage of revenge. Girl holds a grudge. And now that she's started fighting, she actually rather enjoys it.

The only downside: Whenever she returns to Rivendell, the door to her family's apartments appears just like it's painted on the wall... :P

I have a hobbit guardian with a heart of gold. Really, he would be Samwise if there weren't already a Samwise. He's always had somewhat of a Tookish side in that he craved adventure and exploring new lands. Somehow he got wrapped up into helping out the fellowship and has transformed himself from an adventure seeking hobbit to a full fledged hero. He always stops to help NPCs in need and generally makes the morally "right" choice.

He has an outfit that he uses when he's on official hero business. Although he sometimes he changes when he heads back to town so as not to alert the forces of Saruman of his true identity. Often in battle (in my head) he makes pronouncements of the various titles he has earned to let the enemy know just who they're dealing with.

He wields legendary weapons that bear the names of those from the elven kings of the first age...but i'm not sure if they ARE those weapons or just named so. Maybe one day he'll tell me

Tuckley Secondglance is the second son of a farmer from Staddle, Emmit Secondglance. Tuckley's only goal in life was to get rich being a merchant in Bree. He thought his father was just a backwards hobbit hick, with no sense of ambition.

One day, his brother Moribrand returned from his travels in distant lands. Mori and Dad disappeared into a back room at The Pony one night. Tuckley was furious. His father never so much as raised an eyebrow when he told him about his plans to be a big shot merchant. Now Mori comes home and they run off to some secret meeting without him? Bollocks! He crept to the outside window and listened in.

What he heard changed his life forever...

(the rest happened in character and is not background, but you can guess. He came from a family of Burglars and got tangled up in the War of the Ring)

Re: What is the lore behind you Character? What is your character all about?

I like characters who are at the bottom of the food chain in Middle-Earth. I'm talking about ordinary farmers, hunters, shy maids and silly youngsters who are always left behind when the real heroes run screaming into the battlefield. My elf runekeeper (main) is a pacifist who gets nervous while holding a butter knife. She is a scribe at the service of Lord Celeborn and her excellent command of languages leads her to become a translator ("interpreter" might be a better word here) and be somehow (and rather unwillingly) thrown out into the world outside of Lorien. My hobbit lass is too fat to be married off to a decent hobbit lad and too rebellious to be put to service in her father's farm. She runs away and becomes a minstrel who insists on following travelling merchant parties until they pay her to stop singing. After digging a fair amount of latrines at campsites, she realizes what paradise she had back home but it's too late to go back. The roads have become too treacherous. My elf hunter is a vain fool who spends his days looking at himself in the mirror (I could not help it, not with the way male elves look in Lotro ).

So if you ever see me running around electrocuting orcs or pew-pewing boars, just pretend I'm not there.

Imnoto Crook is the brother of an only child. His career in burglary commenced when he stole his brother's birthmark. After that, he was hooked. He considered a career in politics, but decided that being a burglar was the more honorable path through life.

Since he was very different than most other hobbits, Imnoto decided to adventure outside the Shire at a very early age. Dodging the two-feathered shiriffs, he snuck across the Brandywine Bridge and made his way toward Bree, trying to pick the pockets of (and being chased by) various brigands, bears and pigs along the road. He learned the hard way that most bears and pigs don’t have pockets.

He arrived at a seemingly-friendly camp on the road to Bree, but had the life scared out of him by grocer Graham Larkspur, who thundered at him (for no apparent reason), "WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING ME?!!!" He felt a little better after picking Larkspur’s pocket and proceeding on his way to the town of Bree.

Thus began his career as a wandering hobbit burglar. He moves quickly through all parts of Middle Earth, though for some reason he tends to move more slowly and jerkily in Galtrev than in most other parts. When not burglaring, he can usually be found in the corner of a tavern with both hands full of food, drink and/or splintered shields.

My Hunter has something in his biography that I wrote up years ago. I think I made him an Elvish Prince from Mirkwood if I remember correctly. Nothing too fancy. Doesn't really have a story. He he. My Warden does not have a story at all... he just magically appeared one day. I don't really do much role playing so it matters little to me.

Lonia is a hobbit lass who was raised in the Shire by her mother. Her father died when she was eleven years old, which left her mother to take care of Lonia and her brother. As a child, she was somewhat curious about the lands outside the Shire. She made a promise to make herself some sort of adventurer, wanting to just explore and discover new places, and people. She is still naive in some ways, and wants to find the good in almost every situation. So far, the only sort of adventure she had, was when she went with a company to travel to Forochel. Other than that, she mostly sticks to Bree and the Shire still. She enjoys hearing tales from others about their travels, riding her pony, and listening to music from minstrels and bards.

(I usually play her in character in Bree, and the Shire. If I am off doing quests in other lands, I do those outside of character. That seems to work. )
