    Re: Undying Title

I only have the title on three out of fifteen characters, but I've had my first death at level 17 on two characters and at level 19 on three others! LOL

I do have a Champion at level 31 who has not died once yet. I've noticed it's really mostly just paying attention. It's not that difficult a title to get if you remember that you're going for it and don't do anything stupid. Usually, I just play my character (doing stupid stuff) and am somewhat surprised when I get the title.

    Re: Undying Title

I should relate a interesting little parable that I have regarding this title.

So, I was in the Barrow Downs, and I was heading for level 20 with zero deaths. I was really excited about this because this was the first time I was so, so close to the undying title. I kept missing out on it before on my other characters, but I was determined to get it this time. I ended up making a decision to go into the tombs, and, to this day, I don't know why I made that decision. XD

Needless to say, I went in, was a little unprepared, and became overwhelmed. I ran for my life towards the door and, just before I got through to the outside, to safety... the final blow was struck. I was level 19 and 6/8ths. I was a stone's throw away from the Undying title.

The kicker? This was all on the night before I made the journey to Turbine for my interview to get this position. Thank goodness it was not an ill-omen, like I thought it was at the time.

    Interesting.

And yeah, i know it's not that big of a deal. However, this was my fourth character, and I was leveling very slowly specifically to safely get the title. I was also twinking /gearing up at every opportunity. It's just greatly annoying to get screwed over by an issue totally beyond your control regardless how well planned you were. i will still play the game and all, it's just a massive disappointment to have an issue like this come out of nowhere.
That was most likely your problem. If you leveled in a normal place, you would have been level 20 already.

Lol Celestrata! I absolutely had to have this title on my main back in the winter of `07 (when the game was much harder). Level 19 and less than 2 bars from 20, I figured I could handle the Withywindle dead end, you know, where all the bears are.... I rerolled possibly 15 to 20 times on my hunter elf to gain that title. One time I died at level 1 dealing with those murderous lynx kittens at Edhellion.

    Grand days!

Glad you didn't let it scare you away from Turbine!

I was about that close on one of my alts, an RK. Had taken my time, best crafted gear from my main chars, etc. Was questing in Lone Lands, just killing Goblins and Orcs near Candaith's camp, at 19 with only a couple blocks to go to hit 20. My son came in to ask me about something, I started talking to him and forgot I was on auto-run, next thing I know I am falling down a cliff by the river... I was NOT happy My first instinct was to ground him (he played LOTRO also, he should have known better...). Luckily, I had also rolled a Warden (this was just after Moria had come out), but didn't play him much, next thing I knew he had hit 20 and had the title, without really trying! That made it much easier for me to get over it!

    Re: Undying Title

I've got this on a couple of characters. The first time I got the title I thought "ok, that's pretty neat". The first time I didn't get it I was a little disapointed at first and then I thought "no big deal because it's just a title and you don't get anything besides the title.' Usually when I didn't get the title it was my own fault or my own stupidity.

Last night, I was playing a new character on a different server - just trying something different. Made it all the way to level 18 without dying. Was in the Shire, wrapping up the harvest fly slayer deed before moving on to Bree. Had to get up from the computer to discipline my son for something. Came back and there I was - killed by a Harvest Fly....lol. Oh well, no undying title for this character.

    Re: Undying Title

I have it on 7/9 characters.
-My first burg was killed at level 6 by a much higher level warg that had been summoned by a much higher level character in Rushock Bog in the Shire (I still don't know what that was about. Never seen it again).
-A second Burg was killed by internet demons d/c'ing me mid-combat (I decided not to reroll after that one).
-And my most recent, a LM, was killed by a wound I didn't pay enough attention to, as I had become too used to running around as a well-geared Guardian who ignores most wounds/diseases etc. unless I am tanking for a group. It was a good lesson for me.

I agree with most of the other posters though, I might display the title for the rest of level 20, then it never sees the light of day again. I also think leveling in easy spots just for the title handicaps you later. The best way to learn a class is to be fighting orange or red mobs and taking orange or red quests. If you're fighting only blue or green mobs it's easy to get lazy and sloppy.

Out of 12 toons past lvl20 I think I have it on 7.

Not hard to get on certain classes.

    Re: Undying Title

Something like this almost happened to my Minstrel just the other day. 19 and something like 9/10ths, I was doing the Adso Camp quest set involving the nearby bandits at the ruin to recover Adso's stolen goods. No sooner had I pulled the elite bandit leader whose name suddenly escapes me, when that wandering patrol came over to shake hands...

In the process of turning to flee with my tail between my legs, I hit a lag hiccup and skipped through the rest of the bandits that had, by then, respawned. A passing hunter actually stopped to watch as I ran like a little girl with an entire bandit camp trailing along behind me Luckily I had the good sense to drop war speech and spam Major Ballad as I was fleeing for my life.

Normally I don't care much for the title, but I was NOT going to lose out when I was that close

I have it on one character. It was boring getting her to 20 without dying. After that I decided to forget about being careful and pushed my toon to the limits even though it meant dying early. Much more fun for me.

I have kinnies that go for the undying title and they die because they fellow up and take on too much, and they moan and rant about it.

    IMHO it's a hassle.

Were you running through with a mail bag? There's a level 60 bounty quest out of Esteldin that takes place in the Rushock Bog - if I see any lowbies around, I broadcast a general 'you might want to get out of here for a few minutes' before I hit the islet where the Big Bad Wolf spawns. Sadly, people don't always listen.

It was 'nerfed' in beta, it was never 50 since the game went live.

But back in the day, even that was an achievemnt. There were a few more opportunities to get yourself killed. Old Forest, Huorns attacking on sight, anyone? :-)

But I guess to this day most aspiring Undying were stopped in their endeavour in the Barrow Downs. I mean, I really knew the game when RKs were released, having 5 chars at or above the previous max of 50. So I take my RK for a short spree into the Barrow Hills 19.5 and decide to tackle just that one mob without placing the healing stone first. Well, then there was this sudden add and, long story short, no Undying Runekeeper...

I could tell exactly the same story with my Lore-Master.
Except that I thought I'd be clever, and started the fight with my Cracked Earth... forgetting that the root only happens a few seconds later. I was dead by this moment...

And my most ridiculous death before level 20 was my hunter, left for an IRL urgency in the middle of the Green Fields (she was harvesting metal at the moment), which died under the paws of the only green bear of the zone - I was like 18 then, so almost every mob was grey -. I came back in front of my screen only to see her perish...

At this time, my only undying character is my rune-keeper (who went happily to suicide in an Elite goblin camp in the Lone Lands once she completed the deed...)

The warg is a 50-60 level repeatable quest (can't recall which) from a dwarf in the North Downs, there's actually a few irritant quests from him lol. Back to topic, 0/5 because I'm adventurous and like attempting to blast things underleveled, yup the life of a true champ

0/5, because I'm careless, and don't care about it enough to re-roll characters. To me this title only says that the player knows when to run away from a fight! If I get it on a future character, I won't wear it more than 1 or 2 levels past 20 (if I remember to wear it at all).

The answer to this is quite clear:

For 250 TP, get a Scroll of Grant Undying Title.

Sadly, that doesn't even sound vastly too far out of the realm of the possible...

You have to ignore an awful lot of user experience that says otherwise.... some in this very thread. In my experience you have to try very hard to die in this game.... or go afk, have technical problems, etc. The only thing you can accurately assume from someone putting this title over their head is that they like the title.
