So is it true that we may not see new content come 2014?

I have heard rumors that if subscriptions don't pick up we won't be seeing Gondor/new content in 2014? I've not been playing that long but I do subscribe and have purchased expansions except for Rohan as I am not that high in level yet. I have to say that LOTRO is a great game and hope that what I hear/read is only a silly rumor...

Where have you read this? As far as I know, the next expansion is planned to be shipped within the time span :
Autumn - End of the year

The next expansion is Western Rohan, Gondor still has some time ahead of us.

Probably based on the fact that Turbine hasn't announced that they've renewed the license through 2017 as of yet. Lots of time between now and the end of 2014 though so I think it's early to go all doom and gloom.

It's probably a mixture of silly rumors and misreading of information.

It's probably true that we won't see Gondor before 2014, not because they're not going to add more content before then, but because there are plenty more content areas to be created before Gondor.

For example the next content update is going to include Wildemere if i remember correctly.

So to answer your question, whatever you heard, ignore it.

The rumor comes from the expiration of the license agreement with Middle Earth Enterprises in 2014. There has been no public announcement by Warner Brothers stating that the license has been extended. Unlike Turbine, Warner Brothers does not talk about their IP rights. Personally I believe made a big noise about business agreements because they were a small private owned company. Turbine wanted the public recognition both from individual people and other companies that might have dollars to invest.

You see the same kind of public announcements from Kabam a privately owned company that is developing Hobbit based games for Warner Brothers.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.

Didn't Turbine said they already have a seperate world building team working on Gondor and Minas Tirith? I could have sworn I heard that in one of the Dev Twitter Chats.

    Be helpful!

So, you start a thread saying you've heard/read rumors about if subscriptions don't pick up we will see no new content in 2014. Yet, you did not provide information on what you've read, or from whom you heard this information. It seems to me that you may be the source of the rumor. It also seems strange that someone so new to LOTRO would come across this information and start a post, when no one else has.

I would surmise that someone you've met in the game is simply trying to get you to subscribe. That being said, I doubt this post will remain on the forums very long and will most likely be removed.

There's new content (Wildermore) coming with Update 11, yes?

Yes. Wildermore and more of the Epic story are part of Update 11.

A quick word on rumors. They're called rumors not facts for a reason.

    Great News!

Just one question: What is the "rumor" on the quality of "soon" of update 11?

Will the level cap increase with U11? I haven't been around for previous cap increases but I can't see why they'd create new epic quests and a new region for people to do them with no XP benefit

Level caps generally increase with expansions, not QP updates. The new region should be additional level 85 content, and if Turbine is true to form, will eventually be converted to a level 80-85 region to provide an alternate levelling path to Eastern Rohan.

You heard rumors? Then yes, I'm sad to say, it's true.

The distinguishing feature of MMOs is how suprisingly credible the rumors are. That's why LotRO shut down for good in 2009, and also in 2010, 2011, and 2012. It's why every class has been simultaneously nerfed and OP'd in every update. It's why Turbine no longer has the LotR franchise rights, so the orcs from Mordor had to be renamed "jerkfaces from Scranton."

So, it's a shame to hear about the end of new content, but on the upside, I think we'll all enjoy the flying mounts I just heard about.

level caps have never increased without an expansion. new areas and epic books come out without a level cap increase all the time, since the release of the game. (I believe when Shadows of Angmar launched there were 8 books initially (but it may have been fewer - I don't go back quite that far), and a new one came out about every 2 months. book 15 of volume 1 came out with the Mines of Moria expansion, along with the 1st 6 books of volume 2, and the level cap went to 60. volume 2 books 7 and 8 came without a level cap increase. volume 2 book 9 came with the Mirkwood expansion and the level cap raise to 65. the first few books of volume 3 came before Rise of Isengard, again without a level cap increase).

ETA: as for new regions: Forochel at level 50, Lorien at 60, Enedwaith at 65, Great River at 75, just to name a few

Hey, just because it is a known fact that most people from Scranton are jerkfaces, doesn't mean you have to report it on the forums. J/K i lived in PA for a while and met a few nice people from Scranton

Whole number update have been arriving pretty consistently about every three months for the last couple of years. I would look for Update 11 in June.

Rumors are indeed a silly thing when not based upon any fact.

Hope on the other hand, should never be underestimated. Even if there's only a small portion of it.

I do wonder from which era your rumor was. The time when LOTRO's revenues were only based on sales of expansions and subscriptions is long behind us. Are you sure you were not trolled? Nasty creatures, sunlight will turn them to stone though.

Well, since Turbine has already confirmed that lots of new content is coming this year (Wildermore, West Rohan, major class/trait revamps, and a housing update), the rumour is more than likely spurious.

Regarding the renewal of the license, does anyone really think that a license would not be renewed for a popular MMO set in Middle-earth when there are two more Hobbit films to come out, not to mention extended editions of the films thereafter, which should see Tolkien fever right into 2015?

The source of rumours should also be looked at. Most are, by their nature, unreliable. A healthy dose of scepticism, and an even healthier dose of common sense, pays dividends when it comes to things like this.

I simply asked a question, no need to get your panties in a bunch. Sorry all, was not trying to cause a bunch of drama. And thank you to those who posted helpful answers, looking forward to exploring Middle Earth and all it has to offer
