    Elendilmir GLFF

Just a heads up, someone decided to login today as soon as the servers came back up and now glff is pw protected. I understand it's a user channel, but it's making finding groups even harder.

    Anything that can be done?

I mean... it's 8:20pm prime time EST. Usually we have 300-450 ppl on, now there are 49 because of this...

    PS: Password is Evendale.

Glff2 is always there as backup, why it was created.

Prankster always seems to forget that... (and now they'll remember..>_<)

I don't see point of prank... just hurting game-play, instead of getting lolz.

Can't you make a ticket or make a bug report so that a GM or a developer can fix it? This is a major hit to the community and should be fixed as fast as possible because it makes finding groups 100 times harder.

Last time it happened, they couldn't do nothing. (or so said everyone who sent in tickets) We had use Glff2 for most of day in till the user log out, releasing it.
I don't think we actually know how it was really fixed last time.

Most assumed Gm finally stepped in and fixed it. But it took till end of the day.

I was just wondering how you could put a password on a public channel? Just curious.

Recent weeks have had NZ primetime riddled with downtime. It's a |LOT| harder to find a group during downtime than you are currently experiencing.

The 1st person to log into user chat, becomes the owner. (and they can then set password for the chat)

Now, The owner needs to be gone for sometime, for this to happen.
So if you go and test this, you'll find it doesn't work if you test it.

So there likely a timer on the chat. (I honestly don't now if its cause the original creator (forgot the name) no longer plays) and its not a time passed issue.

I created Glff2, and play fairly often. So if someone ever manages to take Glff2, then that can throw 2nd theory out window. And then its a Time log out thing.

Spreading the password just keeps more people logged into the channel with the password, if they'd all log out or leave channel then GLFF can be recreated without the password. At this point you probably have to wait until the next maintenance/update to have a chance at recreating it without a password.

GLFF is a user created channel, not an official channel created by Turbine.

I hope that this is fixed for you guys today and that permanent damage isn't done. We had this happen on Vilya a while back and so now we have people in Unite and people in Glff, with a wide overlap. Basically what this means is that functionally each channel is at 75% utility and you must use 2 out of your 4 user chats to get 100% utility. It is annoying and all the moreso for having the attention seekers in both so you have to read every inane thing they say twice if you want that 100% utility.

An official glff channel would be nice to prevent this kind of stupidity from happening.

This is a question motivated purely by curiosity. (On advice from others, I listened in on /glff, on Elendilmir, for several hours once. I don't think I saw any requests for fellowship at all; it was all trash talk and mine-is-bigger-than-yours jokes.)

So ... while the group was passworded, with the password known only to a few, did the content differ any? Was there maybe a higher percentage of fellowship requests among the usual static? If so, I can sort of imagine why whoeveritwas passworded the group. Though he still shouldn't have done so, I agree.

GLFF and GLFF2 are a cesspool and very hard to tolerate, yes, but there are also many, many true LFFs. The times I am on my 'crud' (forums won't allow what I actually named it) tab, I often see calls for groups and, many times, those groups get filled fairly quickly.

Past performance indicated that players' initiative created better tools for grouping even if it is possible to become a wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Turbine tried to counter GLFF with Instance Finder. Failed.
Then lately Turbine easy-moded 3-men instances that you can complete without the holy trinity setup. Is anybody using Instance Finder for 3-men instances now?

Turbine, just give us an official global LFF chat channel already and leave us to our own devices, or make better Instance Finder by double the amount of incentives to do so.

The timer is about 5 minutes actually, it's not very long at all.
Of course, when it comes to a channel as large as GLFF, 5 minutes is a pretty long time to go with absolutely nobody in the channel. (It doesn't clear if just the owner logs out for that time, the owner becomes irrelevant once a password is set.)

Passwords on chat channels should disappear if no players are in the channel.
