Bluebell recipes are still technically rep gated, devs. Sigh.

The literal reputation gate was removed, but the cost in Fangorn Leaves is still 100 per recipe. If a farmer wished to have even the two basic recipes (one for the field, one for the crop), and skipped the third, that's still 200 leaves - which by my math gets that farmer pretty high in rep anyway, perhaps even all the way to Ally (especially if the farmer wants all three recipes).

So... yeah, Turbine devs, it's still kinda technically rep gated. Just saying.

Also, the only current apparent use of the farm field is the dye recipe, which itself is still rep gated anyway, so...

You guys could at least throw us a bone by putting in a task board in Entwood, or something.

But now you can buy for a farmer alt. I think that's why it was changed, so that if your farmer hasn't even reached 95 yet, he can at least grow the mats. Kinda pointless though when the dye recipe is still rep gated though.

Super pointless, because the only recipes (to my knowledge) which use anything from it are Scholar, and a Scholar can do their own farming anyway. It's not like we have free control over our three crafts, and so someone could have a Scholar who is not also capable of farming. Thus, the Scholar who needs the mats will already be Ally rep anyway if he plans to use the Bluebells...

The solitary use of the change is so that someone who doesn't plan to actually use the Bluebells could get their 100 leaves and farm them to sell on the auction. But, since any Scholar who can get the recipe to use them will also, by the time they get Ally rep for the dye recipe, have enough leaves to get the farming recipe too... that seems pretty pointless just the same.

This was an oversight. They should have been converted to standard currencies (gold). It will be changed in the next update, which is currently expected to be Update 14 (barring any major, game breaking issues that need to be addressed before then).

    Hooray! Glad to hear it!

As an aside, Sapience, the tooltip text for the Vicious Strikes trait erroneously reads "additional strikes" on Ranks 2-5, but correctly says "Strike skills" on Rank 1. Just a note as long as we're on the topic of stuff for the next update.

I just had an interesting idea, too - since a lot of people are unhappy with the requirements for rep and for leaves in Fangorn, and citing the impending new levels as a key reason why they're hesitant to endure the grind... and at the same time, there's no use I'm aware of for the actual crops of Bluebells... what if there was some way to turn in Bluebell crops to the Ents for a small boost in rep and/or leaves? Give it a daily limit of course, but since the crops can be traded, auctioned, etc, it could be a nice way to help encourage people as well as giving some purpose to those crops (particularly since the Ents are the ones selling the recipe for them, it seems like maybe they like Bluebells).

Or you have a scholar alt that has access to the Guild-version recepie of Steel-blue Dye, and can now be enabled to actually get the bulbs to use it...

This is what I thought should happen, which sounds great!

The problem is, I have already spent 200 Fangorn Leaves on the Field and Crop x5 recipes, got them last week IIRC, by using 2 toons that were both Ally and sent them to my Farmer/Scholar..... so will there be tech available to give me a refund of 200 leaves when the cost is changed to in game gold?

This is why it is so important that these things are put into the game right, or costs changed before anyone could have gained enough leaves / rep to make a purchase - it's hassle for you devs, and a pain in the behind for us players!! lol Basically I'm down 2 weeks of grinding which is less than ideal. Luckily for me I'm not too bothered, just a bit puzzled why a change like this is made not only when it's gone live, but also when it was an issue raised during Beta back on March 17th? That's not me baiting or anything, I just wish these issues which seem obvious were dealt with in Beta, then non of this would've happened.

Is the rep gating actually off now? I have the necessary leaves and it still won't allow my farmer to purchase any of the three recipes. I was told that this is a known issue.

So has anyone below ally rep been able to purchase the recipe since the patch?

I know. I was talking about farmers specifically, not farm + scholar, for that exact reason (the removal of the ally rep requirement from the field recipe is moot for a scholar).

since turbine gave in to your strongly worded requests for no rep requirement,

I hope they reduce the recipe cost down to 5 leaves for the farm recipe and 5 for the dye recipe.

Or just remove the recipes from Fangorn completely and add it to random westemnet scroll drop like low lvl dye recipes. it should be consistent.

    Jebidiah Atkinson on Barter Prices...

Aside from the rep gated recipe, how many leaves does someone actually need to create his first color?
200? 400? How much is this in hours? Ok, this is nitpicking, because it is now officially "not intended" and will change probably in the "forseeable future". But what is with the other ones?

All this high prices force me to question my time investment with the game's current endgame content. And from what I hear, I'm not the only one doing so. I hear it so often from different people in the chat or in teamspeak, but it is not the only reasons I'm writing this. It is mainly my own concern. I'm really wondering why dot-one-patch that took several weeks to show up doesn't address all this issues. Many of us have mentioned this in the forums and the tthtI runs.

If the recipe price is an oversight, then what is the price for the t6 relict? Or even better, the 3 different Ixp runes, which all cost the same? 100.
Some may call it nitpicking, but then where are the things I'm even alowed to dislike? Where is the line to be crossed that someone says, no. Not this, don't go further evil grindy prices!

We are in a game, where there seems to be a a limit of new icons that can be reached, and/or it just may be used as an argument for not having these in a really concerning amount of time/patches.
So much quests and reapetables were made in this 7 years, so many new mechanics, items and systems are indroduced.

You may think something good about a game so old, is that everything gets better over time. But the picture what I'm getting lately (Rohan+) is quite the opposite. Just to avoid an ongoing wall of text and to be more specific, just a list of things that what I think where unessesary steps back:

    - Crafting Instances for Endgame PVE Content
    - Lack of Icon Love (Especially for crafting and specific buffs) Make Love, not...!
    - Not even a single new traditional Group Instance. The HD Battles are very anti climactic due to the lack of special encounters and mindless attacking orcs. The whole systems also suffers from a working reward system when it comes to items.
    - Itemization. Again. Where is Finesse on the new Items? You end up with almost nothing with fangorn jewelry and armor. Especially as a tank-> Result, missing really a lot in t3 Skirmishes and PVP.
    - RNG in Epic Battles. Couldn't hurt to mention this again. It is really bad from a players perspective. Shouldn't teach moria development another approach?
    - Very traditional landscape questing. There are maybe some interesting storys told, but the scheme is the same. You are again the guy for everything. From level 1 to 95.
For me, this ship has sailed long ago. I wonder if this even will change someday. Imo content for high level gamers, especially in a game this old should rather try to approach new ways to let you adventure rather then rely on old patterns. One of the reasons why I suggested this one here on the forums btw.
To be fair, Mounted combat, drive-by quests and epic battles may be steps into that direction. But it is not enough. The old schemes are still to much used. There is no reward that can force you to enjoy the grind of repetition.

Just as a reminder, everything not mentionend still hast the possibility to not being bad at all, or actually really good imo. This is a critic, so pls bear with me.

I hope noone is looking at this as another "vitriol" infused negative post, rather than a concern that even the often communicated good will, which you hardly can deny to someone to be honest, doesn't actually has to mean they are dedicated to make high quality content with good balance and in mmo terms sophisticated "grind". It just feels like quantity stands above everything. It feels terrible... (sometimes).

I know, they may be good reasons for every desicion made in and around the game. Rowan could probably sing a song about this. But these reasons are (possible) grounded by so many facts that are keptsecret.
So in the end it is hard to remain an evangelist of something recently so unintelligible uninspiring, because you do not fully understand the why.

Don't get me wrong. I don't expect the game to be a 24/7 AAA gaming experience, but please deliver content, if there is one, that matches at least certain standards and do not lower the bar with every new patch this year.
The Epic Book Quests are a good example that something can and wants to live up to that ideology. Then I'm happy to spend my money and more importantly recommend the game to my friends.

I hope it is not just a matter of limited resource allocation, then this post would be pretty pointless. Well, but worth a try!?

As I read it, the rep requirements to USE the recipes has dropped, but the rep requirements to GET the recipe has not. So you need to be ally to get the recipe, but you can send it to a lv20 farmer to actually use, if you want to.

This is also what I am experiencing. Buying is still blocked, so no possibility to test using it.

You can get ally on any of your high characters (doesn't have to be a farmer), buy the recipe, and send it to a farmer

Thank you for letting us know this. I was a little discouraged when I logged on to find I still could not buy this bluebell recipe with my 95 Hunter tailor for my guilded scholar. Looking forward to Update 14 when it will be available. I'll enjoy making the dye for my kinnies.
