    Bindbole Kid

    Greets -

So, I'm running through Bindbole Wood, enroute to the spider enclave. Since I'm completing the deed "Heightened Senses" (I'm running a lvl 17 Hunter), I naturally stopped (at 27.6S 71.1W in the Shire) and activated the "Passage of Nature" skill. I see a Bindbole Kid on the list and decide to track it. The name was purple and classified as a signature critter. I run up to where the radar indicated it was, but I could not see it and it did not attack me. So, I tried clicking a general attack skill, but it was not selected. I laid down a Tripwire and set a Trap hoping to make it angry. When it walked into these, they were activated and caused it to attack me. I got one hit in, then ran for my life. Below is a screeny of the combat log.

I've searched for this critter here in the forum and on the lotro-wiki and googled it, but it is not, apparently, listed anywhere. What is this thing? Is it tied to a specific quest line? Why does it have these odd characteristics?

I just took a 91 Hunter to Bindbole and found the Bindbole Kid easily enough. Hit it with Deadly Decoy for 1118 Fire damage and it disappeared. No defeat message, just gone.

I wonder if this might be related to upcoming content?

Thank goodness someone else found this fella. If it is for future content, that would explain why it is a noseeum. I would think though, that it would be left on Bullroarer. Movement to an active server (which one are you on? I'm on Imladris) is a deliberate move. Oh well, at least I survived the encounter.

I took my 100 champion to that spot, used a tracking tome to track the kid, couldn't see him but i got right on top of the tracker on the mini map and hit Horn of Gondor which got the kid for 1788 damage. THEN the tracker spot started moving all around but i couldn't lock onto him or hit him with anything i had. He was gone but the minimap showed him still being tracked and moving all over the area. Finally i left and will wait and see if he's some future content-maybe a small Shire Roving Hobbit Threat

This was on Riddermark, I'll check on Bullroarer later.

same thing on Bullroarer, I couldn't see him but could track him and followed him around, killed him and he kept walking around invisible and i couldn't track him again for a hit even though the minimap tracker was still moving around.

It might be related to the upcoming Bingo Badge episodic content, that would be why its not on the wiki yet or bullroarer.

he might be bugged a bit and shows on landscape by accident.

    I'm on Elendilmir.

More often movement to the live servers (common code base, they all get it or none does) is an accident. An NPC for the Bingo Boffinn (or is it Bolger?) episodic quest content has been on live for a while. Left in by accident but not removed. Good teaser with no effect on game until flags are turned on or prereq quest is added.

This might even be a clue as to how spawned quest mobs work in some cases. The mob is added to landscape with a spawn cycle just like a regular mob. It has a flag set that indicates it is only visible to characters with a specific quest. So it spawns and roves around, but is invisible unless you have the right quest.

Maybe I'll look up some other mobs that spawnn for specific quests and see if I can track them.

Yesterday I was working on the deed The Sights Of The Shire when I had to log off, which I did at Stocktower. When I logged back on hours later, as soon as I appeared, in my chat box I saw Bingo Boffin talking, though I couldn't find him himself. At least I think it was him; it was pretty late and I didn't think to capture the log, so it's possible it's just a very similar name? If not, there's maybe another bit of the new content slipping through the cracks.

The Bindbole Kid isn't related to Bingo Boffin, but was part of another developer's pet project -- occasionally we're encouraged to take some time to work on our own little side projects, and the Kid was involved with one of those. As I'm not sure when this project will see the light of day, I can't really comment too much on it. Chances are the Kid will be adjusted in some way if he's being too unruly while invisible.

Oh you found the Bindbole Kid!

Yes, this mystery creature is part of a pet project that may or may not see the light of day. I'll be hiding the Bindbole Kid a little better for Update 17. Until then maybe you'll find the Bindbole Kid's friend?

Well the chupa-cabra is a case of mistaken identity with a night owl while the Bindbole kid is a bugan.

    How awesome!

I've been working on my Heightened Senses deed, so this gives me a good excuse to roam and practice.

Can you give a hint as to the region his buddy may be hiding?

Even if he never sees the light of day, he's got a great name! lol.

    Welcome to the forums.

I made my own excursion to hunt down the kid yesterday; it was fun. I think it was in the Bindbole Woods that I first ran into Ghost Bear, long ago, so I kind of hope you won't feel the need to hide him too. It's nice to retain a bit of mystery in a remote corner of the Shire

Regarding "find the Bindbole Kid's friend" ... may we please have a hint?

It's the buddy of the Black Rider who has fallen to shadow and gone entirely invisible. When will those hobbit kids stop playing around with things they shouldn't be sticking their noses into.
Not sure if that is a hint or a tease.

That's just a joke. The situation on Bullroarer is the same as live.

I'm german and have trouble understanding what bindbole means. The Tolkien Gateway says:
The name presumably contains bole "trunk of a tree".[3]
Still having trouble translating it into my language...

A kid (magically) bound to a tree? Children of the forest?

Can't help with what Bindbole may mean, if anything, but I think the Kid's just called the Bindbole Kid because he/it wanders around in the Bindbole Wood. Like the spiders there are called Bindbole Weaver and Bindbole Spinner.
