Landroval is exactly where I want to go. Did you find it that much more populated than Ridder? That's great news. I logged on to see the cosmetic weapon changes and went to the AH to buy some. There was literally nothing in one handed or two handed axes, no great swords, and 2 one handeed swords.

Definitely. The leveling experience didn't seem too much different (though it's been a long time since I leveled a lowbie on Riddermark), but it's way busier at level cap, and there are so many friendly kinships there. A lot of them are heavy into RP and music (like the Lonely Mountain Band) but they also have Riddles in the Dark (which has many of the ex-Riddermark PvMpers), etc. for other playstyles.

And the Ah is filled with stuff. Absolutely filled. If I had more storage space, I'd be buying stuff left and right to save for my Riddermark toons.

Landroval gets its trolls like any other server, but the general atmosphere is very nice. Until Riddermark is opened for exit-transfers, you could try rolling a toon on Landroval to test the waters.

ok, i didnt read all non-blue comments but:

1. do extra char slots get transferred for free? its already a huge thing to most, and disabling their bought slots will probably make them even more pressured and may make them leave
2. (just to be sure i ask this now) the character vault (items in it AND extra slots bought) are character based, so will transfer with the character, right?

i guess gilrain will be gone then, so i'll have to warn a friend (in reallife, who also is there) after 3rd of august, and see what server we'll join instead
lets hope char slots will transfer too, he bought 1
and it may sound not much, but 1. its still money he'll need, and 2. many others may have bought many more slots

Because some people have multiple characters on multiple servers and being FORCED to consolidate them down (even though it may be a small portion of the community) we are ebing forced.

We understand we can keep our toons split, but some of us have multiple toons on multiple servers and are afraid there may be some overages... and to be forced to pay if that overage occurs does not seem fair or right especially if we are forced to move.

For instance...

I have 13 roons on Meneldor
5 on Arkenstone
5 and landroval

Now lets say for the sake of this Arkenstone is closing and Meneldor is closing (just theory and speculation here) that means I have 18 toons I need to move... If my Kin goes to landorval, and I want to follow, I am now forced to pay to unlock those slots or delete my toons or whatever.

So like I said, it is a small portion of the community but, we would just like an answer if they can offer a few more free slots for those that are leaving closing servers or offer a MAJOR discount on character slots/ We arent asking for the world on a platter just the ability to not lose access to our toons

Thanks Kick for the clarification, I thought that some were not realizing the slots were account wide, but your example helped me understand the problem.

I don't understand what the uproar is about the character slots. If you bought 11 character slots, you have 11 character slots on each and every server...could you not just for example move the 5 Laurelin characters to another server and then have the slots free for the 11 Withywindle characters? I'm not trying to slight what you are feeling, just to understand the turmoil going on.

It's certainly possible I could move the Laurelin characters, and then as you say move the 11 Withywindle characters to Laurelin. They are the ones I'm active on these days, albeit irregularly, and Laurelin would be a decent server to move them too. However, it's very difficult to know how to plan it when we don't yet know which servers are involved, not least with the extra complications of the foreign language ones in the EU.

A quick question about EU servers...

You've mentioned that there will be at least one roleplay server staying up, and one from each language - so that makes 3, with presumably 2 EN additional non-RP servers staying. This means that EN players (and all those in the EU that choose to go for an English language server, as they prefer it to French or German servers) that don't want to roleplay are going to be constricted to two servers?

Essentially, the question is, will RP still be as heavily enforced on Laurelin as it used to be? Because if so, I'd argue that means there is going to be some serious lag on the two remaining EN servers for the rest of that playerbase.

Tirian, and anyone else concerned about role-play:
There is no requirement for people on Laurelin to RP. Indeed, many never do. If you don't want to role-play ever that is fine, it just means not using some channels which are meant to be in character, eg "say". Given that most public conversation is out of character as it happens in "world" and OOC (for PvMP) this isn't a problem. Of course, it would be nice if non-RPers don't grief those who do, but that's not too different to normal civility and respectfulness (which is more prevalent fortunately on LOTRO than some other MMOs). Also, there are naming rules, but I doubt many people on any server want to see the names like Aragawn running around Middle Earth.

There is plenty of non-RP activity on Laurelin. In fact, there is little RP outside of Bree most of the time. PvMP, for example, is probably more active than any EU server, except perhaps Snowy. For that reason, we have had quite a lot of recent transfers to the server from dedicated PvMPers, including some from Evernight - notably Krita (the bane of many wargs) and Valdez (jeez, that reaver hits hard ).

Being an RP server means that we perhaps have a relatively mature (on the whole) player-base, with lots of people interested in the lore and sharing in the wonders of the world Tolkein created. We have role-play events like dances. Some daft freeps and creeps even had an impromptu conga-line going near Grams a little while back But if people just want to kill stuff, grind for gear etc, they will find many others with the same approach.

I role-play sometimes, but usually very casually. The same is true for many on the server. The RP I get involved in is often more messing around than true RP - eg drumming if I see a creep dance, or having a bit of fun when mailing kinnies. Personally, I spend most of my time doing PvMP - little time fire my LM to RP when being jumped by warg packs though the animation on lightning storm is that slow I probably have time...

I totally agree that it is frustrating not to be able to plan yet. At least we will know next week!

So after reading the article if I read the housing transfer thing correctly all my stuff goes into escrow I will have to completely redecorate my house from scratch just great I better start taking screenshots to make it easier.

If you have one of the luxury houses you'll probably be out of luck all together. Because while there is still a lot of housing available, it's only the simple houses that barely anyone cares about anymore.

hm, ever been to Green Dragon friday in the Shire, or Rivendell ever, even outside Hall of Fire Wednesday or the Tavern Games in Thorin's hall? XD Those are race specific weekly events. Bree is the... whatever comes hub really. Main men rp hub, but also a mash of odd rp. other races have other hubs. If one wants to stay true to lore that is.

I have a lot of creeps of various classes.
It's a certainty that I have creeps of a particular class on several of the remaining 5.
How will creep conflicts be reconciled?
Unless we can have several of a class people are going to lose creeps.

Since free transfers are staying open till October, does that mean we can keep transferring the same characters multiple times, till we find the world / community that we like?

To put it in other words, I have some characters on Elendilmir (which I hope closes), can I transfer my main character on the remaining 4 worlds, one by one, to see if I like a particular server? Is that possible?

I don't think we're such a minority..I know lots of people that are altoholics...I am one of them and the news for us are NOT good at all! I know I don't have to move all my characters to one server but it doesn't help when MY favorite servers close that I would have free characterslots on Riddermark and Withywindle when I need them on Crick, Gladden and Meneldor when I have a full boat there. I do not understand how people can even think it's fair that I have to purchase slots again just to be able to play characters I already payed for! I bought a lot of character slots and now I get kinda punished for that? That's not how you treat good customers Turbine! There really should be at least some help from Turbine like somebody mentioned already!

I just had another thought...why not open one brand new server each for US and EU...people with maxed characterslots would have a place to go without worrying where to place 19 characters when ther are already 19 characters or having a 210 space shared bank filled with 420 items......just a thought...

Yeah I can see this person's point, the more someone has played and payed the more punishment they are about to go through? Does not seem right. I am glad I don't have too much issue as I've played on and off for a while now, but I feel for these people who have because even though I'm a year to lotro, I've been 10 plus years to other online games that have had merges etc as well and this just looks horrible for these people that put in so much time to Lotro.. and as a newer member of this community makes me wonder how hard I should work too.. our family is loving this game... I am a positive person as well, but this person is so right. This person has worked hard and just the transfers and name changes that maybe declined.. why put them through even more with making them buy more character slots?

As far as that being minority of people, I don\t think so either because when we first came to lotro a year ago, we were told to go make a toon on every server and get the horn for the 10 tp points.. so even I have one toon at least per ever lotro server. Then they talk about farming points by lvling characters.. well I'm sure a lot of Lotro long time gamers have toons everywhere and it just seems right to at least expand the amount it takes for them to be satisfied.

I am excited to get it over with though.. as we have probably picked all the closing ones as our home, being that we like peaceful servers playing as a family. Would like to delete those horn lvl 1 toons off whichever server remains lol to prepare for the incoming ones.

Anyways watching to see what's next =) hugs n comforts to all you hard working ones with a lot of toons like dat.

Yeah this is the one part I don't understand in the article. They should give us some free slots instead of making us pay for all the extras.

I'm kinda disappointed at the naming stuff. People who have gone on hiatus for a while, to see their chars have lost their name is not very fair. And a one year hiatus is not unheard of, so to have someone who created their character a month prior get your name on your server is a bit of a disappointment. And what happens if two people come onto the server with the same name?

And no, this doesn't affect me, but I am sympathetic to those it will effect.

Yep. Although they aren't promising that Brandywhine free transfers will re-open before October. The server is considered "full" at the moment, and it has problems struggling with the load of players as it is right now. They want to significantly upgrade the hardware first.

Well... there will be a notification that goes out over their registered real e-mail address, so if they still read their email, they can log on and save their characters.

What about personal currency, trophys, bound rep/barter and such. And festival tokens. Did I miss where it said those would transfer?

If all that does not transfer, if players lose all their rep barter and such needed for gear, this game WILL die!
