This was my first ever Green Dragon Friday!

Thanks for being so welcoming; I had a great time. I recently transferred from Evernight, so this was a great way to be introduced to Laurelin.

I recorded some footage of the events, is it okay to upload them to Youtube? It does have some player names in the video.

I'm sure that's fine, I've certainly got np with that, and nobody asks me when they put up videos of me being killed in the moors
    Stop That! It's extremely silly!

    Videos are always welcome!

Now, on to Friday September 4th: Given that the mayor has crashed into Bywater and is making a real mess of things there, we have temporarily relocated! Instead of Green Dragon Friday, we'll have a Floating Log Friday! In Frogmorton!

Same time, same place, same guidelines, though. From 8PM UK (3PM servertime) onwards, welcome hobbits!

Please also note that this Friday sort of marks the start of the upcoming journey towards the hobbit village in Everwait. For more information about that, please have a look here.

Tonight is a Golden Perch Friday!

So Barmy over at the Green Dragon is busy this week. The Farmer’s Faire is on in Bywater, and he’ll be all busy cooking fer the guests that wanders around outside. And, not least, that gluttony mayor of ours, Ol’ Flourdumpling. So Barmy pleaded, PLEADED us he did, ter try find a different venture fer the night.

So we had a chat with master Gunderic Grubb over at the Golden Perch, who welcomed us with open arms. He promised us ales at half the price of Barmy’s brands, with lots of brandy wine thrown in fer good measure. So here, fer yer convenience, is all them details:

    Golden Perch Friday, September 11th, 8PM-10PM UK (3PM – 5PM /servertime).

And as always, usual Green Dragon Guidelines apply, which means this is an event by and for hobbits. The odd visiting dwarf is always welcome, though!

Please also note that next Friday, September 18th, will be a Lone Bards Night! That's when only solo and/or duo performances are allowed. Start planning yours now! Hopefully, we should be back in the Green Dragon this Friday.

It is a Friday of special magnificence, it is. This is no ordinary Friday, no no. This is... Mouldy Green Cheese Friday? Well, according to Simbo, it is, so we'll see how that goes. It is also the 8th anniversary day for the Grand Order, for those wishing to send us a small greeting. Or biscuits. Preferably both!

For most other hobbits, though, this is a regular Friday. And that means that the doors to the Green Dragon open for the weekly hobbit inn night at 8PM UK (3PM servertime) as usual. Come for fun and dance, music, poems, riddles, stories, drinking, all the latest hobbit news and more! If yer want to entertain, that's grand, just contact the hobbit looking to be somewhat in charge. Or trying to be... 's like trying to herd hobbit children towards the bath tub sometimes.

    Please note:
Green Dragon Friday is a roleplaying event for and by hobbits.
    - Travelling dwarves are welcome (but we surely love it if yer come as a hobbit)
    - We ask men and elves to stay away from the event (although by all means come in to do any quests yer may have in the inn).

This is not because we're mean and hate tall fellows. It is simply because we try to create a somewhat lore-relevant hobbit inn night every Friday (as we have for more than seven years now). Men were a rare sight in the Shire inns, and most local hobbits in Bywater had never laid eyes upon an elf. Whenever a tall visitor enters the inn, it changes the dynamic of the event, and it progressively turns less hobbit-oriented. And that makes us somewhat sad.

Should yer want to join the event, please roll up a hobbit instead - it is marvellous fun!

While I understand your reason and agree in general, I want to point at one thing-our characters, who have finished the quest line, are bounders of The Shire.

If I am reading your words aright, or the meaning behind them, bear in mind that from a role play perspective (as well as from the greater realistic scheme of things) many quests would not fit in the rp setting. By that I mean just this: many of the experiences LotRO offers through quests and raids and through the epic story line, in the role play setting are considered as OOC (Out of Character); for otherwise, everyone of us that plays a hobbit would then be a bounder; everyone of us that plays the race of Men, would be the hero of Archet worthy of praise and song, and so on.

As you may perceive from this, it would therefore be unreasonable and unrealistic to regard all times as IC; in other words, merely because we us players through our characters have completed the related quests for a bounder, that in role play does not perforce mean that they have that role - that they are bounders. In truth from all that I have seen and read over the years, most are not.

Much more could be said about this, but I do not wish to stray away from the theme and purpose of the thread. But I hope this may have helped you in the understanding of this.

Also, as there are many newcomers on the server who may have a good interest in role play, and as this thread is about the Green Dragon Friday event, watch this! I think you may enjoy it much, and also see how through rp and the good will of many, we as players through our characters can create and have very wonderful times in-game.

Tonight is Lone Bards Night at the Green Dragon! Doors open at 8PM UK (3PM servertime) as usual! Welcome hobbits and visiting dwarves!

What is Lone Bards Night? First of all, this is for all practical purposes Green Dragon Friday, the long-lasting weekly hobbit gathering on the Laurelin server. This is where hobbit roleplayers on Laurelin meet up for a night at the inn on Fridays, to relax and enjoy themselves after a long week.

Lone Bards Night is essentially “Green Dragon Friday unplugged”. This will mostly be Green Dragon Friday as usual, but with one big exception: We won’t allow bands to play. Instead, we ask for solo or duo-based entertainment:
    • Music (solo or duo)
    • Poems
    • Short stories
    • Riddles or rhymes
    • Short duo plays
    • Or similar. Please be creative!

To allow for as many performances as possible, please do not plan with too much time (max 10-minute entertainment). Short and sweet is good!

In particular, we encourage new hobbit entertainers to come perform! While there are many veterans around whose performances are always welcome, at the Green Dragon we have a particular fondness for first-time (and even second- or third-time) performers. I am sure you’ll find us to be a friendly and appreciative crowd, so please don’t be shy!

Lastly, please remember to keep your performance somewhat hobbity lore-relevant. Green Dragon Friday is about roleplaying hobbits in the Shire, and their traits and interests should be a good guide for your performance as well. Don’t worry too much, though, we certainly welcome inexperienced roleplayers too!

To sign up, just show up at the Green Dragon on Friday March 13th! When the night kicks off, the host will ask for entertainers to sign up. This is done by sending a /tell to the host, where you say what you would like to do. The host will then open up for the different performers during the of the night.

    Welcome hobbits!

As always, please note that Green Dragon Friday is an event for and by hobbits, with dwarven visitors welcome. For lore reasons, we ask that men and elves stay away from the event the two hours it lasts (however, if have quests inside the inn, like the Inn League Run, you should of course come inside and finish those).

It is Friday/Highday, which means a hobbit holiday with an evening feast. What better way to celebrate it than to join the local hobbits at the Green Dragon? The doors open at 8PM UK (3PM servertime) as usual. Welcome hobbits! Bring a poem, a rhyme, a riddle, a song or the latest hobbit news and gossip.

As always, usual Green Dragon Guidelines apply, which means this is an event by and for hobbits. The odd visiting dwarf is always welcome, though!

Please also note that next Friday, October 30th, the EU has started on Daylight Saving Time, while the US hasn't. So on October 30th, 8PM UK will correspond to 4PM servertime!

Turbine has on short notice announced a hotfix tonight, starting at 4PM eastern. Given that the EU is currently off Daylight Saving Time, this means 8PM UK. Which is when the Dragon usually opens.

So, looks like no GDF tonight!

The Green Dragon yule day party!

Barmy has decided to open the doors on the yule day this year! So if yer would like to celebrate yule by attending a relaxing party at the local inn, yer are very welcome to Green Dragon Friday this yule day!

    Date: Friday December 25th 2015
Time: 8PM UK time (3PM servertime)
Location: Green Dragon Inn, Bywater, Laurelin server

While we fully expect that many hobbits will be busy celebrating yule with family and close friends this Friday, traditions vary even in the Shire. Some do the bulk of their celebrating the day before, others may finish earlier in the day, while others again don't celebrate yule that much at all. Whatever yer reasons, though, yer are heartily welcome to the Green Dragon yule day party!

Depending on how many attends the party, we may not last the full two hours of a regular Green Dragon Friday. Here is what is planned, though:

    • Mulled cider! Barmy will be keeping the kettle on all night, so yer can help yerselves to soothing spicy mullied cider.
    • The yule pork feast! A festive day calls for a festive meal, and few things are as festive as pork (unless yer have a live one living in yer study or somet...). Barmy will be cooking up a 3-course menu, served all night.
    • Yule stories and poems
    • Yule songs
    • Perhaps a yule riddle or two?
    • All the latest hobbit news, of both yule and beyond!
    • Good-natured banter with your hobbit friends, old and new!

So do come for a mug of mulled cider, good company, a story, a dance and tender pork with all the trimmings. If yer have entertainment and news to share, that's grand too! Welcome, hobbits! And a very merry yule to everyone!

Please note: Green Dragon Friday is a roleplaying event for hobbits. While travelling dwarves are always welcome at the inn, for lore reasons we generally ask that the Big Folk do not attend. Please roll up a hobbit instead to attend, it is grand fun!

The Green Dragon Friday new year's party will be arranged Friday January 8th. As usual, the new year's party is held at the Plough and Stars in Brockenborings (not least because Barmy usually needs a week or two to clean up the Dragon after the yule celebrations).

So do come to Brockenborings to celebrate the new year, hobbits! Bring yerselves, entertainment, the latest gossip and news, and let's have us some fun as usual. 8PM UK time (3PM servertime).

Another Friday, another Green Dragon Friday! 8PM UK (4PM servertime, due to the US being on Dayligh Saving Time) in Bywater! Welcome hobbits as we're nearing the eight anniversary of the event!

Green Dragon Friday tries to be a roleplaying inn night for hobbits, based on the Shire in Tolkien's books. This makes the event somewhat different from others, so we ask you to keep the following in mind:
    • Please keep it lore-relevant! The event is most fun when your actions, your chats and your entertainment is somewhat suitable for a hobbity lore-relevant night at the inn. Avoid fireworks inside, avoid hitting others with the giant flowers you (really shouldn't) wear, keep the chat topics hobbity.
    • Please keep /say in-character! Our patrons should remember that the /say channel on Laurelin is in-character, which means that it should only be used for dialogue about things that have a home in Middle Earth ((and no, using double brackets like these is no excuse to break this *winks*. The brackets only shows that you are aware of this rule, but decide to break it anyway. The one exception we do is for announcements of local times for events, like /servertime, UK time or similar))
    • Please remember that Green Dragon Friday is an event for and by hobbits! Dwarven visitors are as always welcome, but for lore reasons we ask that men and elves stay away from the event the two hours it lasts (however, if you have quests inside the inn, like the Inn League Run, you should of course come inside and finish those).
    • Please participate! It is somewhat creepy if the room gets filled with dual-boxing alts who just stand there staring at each other. Consider just coming along on one main character, and join the fun when others try to interact with you.
    • Please be somewhat mindful of what is going on in the inn! If someone is standing up to recite a tearful poem about lost hobbits on the Greenfield, it sort of undermines things if you merrily waltz into the inn/around the room, saying hello to each and hugging everyone in the process. Make the chat box space count, keep the signal to noise ratio high!
    • Above all, have fun! No-one will yell at you for simple mistakes, but try to keep the points above in mind as you join the fun. That makes the evening grander for everyone!
