My memory might be incorrect, but wasn't the increase stated as 'doubling the number of slots available in the store'? Wasn't that number 13 before the testing of the new transfer features and the announcement of the start of the consolidations? I checked the store recently on a premium account and counted 26 bonus character slots available for purchase. That would have given me 3 plus the 2 free plus 2 from the Moria expansion plus one that I'm not sure where I obtained it, so I am going to check this again. On a VIP account, I have 12 open, 3 for premium plus 2 for VIP, 2 more from the consolidation, 2 from Moria and one from the Beorning + slot that I got on sale. That's 10, so I have purchased 2 more. Thus, this account should have 24 more showing in the store. Checking the store shows 24 slots available. The store UI's 90 day history does not go back far enough to show the character slot purchases. My archived emails should have the receipts, though.

So... In the interest of Science I would think that Quartermaster would be able to break down exactly how many slots are available for purchase and the grand total of all slots.

My only other thought is that QM is sitting in his chair thinking, "Did she really say 50 and not include me in the information? I'll just add a few to the store and wait for the Tablets to come down from the Mount"

On BR I was able to unlock slots to a total of 48. I sure don't seem to be offered enough in the live Store to reach that number right now.

Good test. I am pretty sure that this is also the case on the live servers then. They may only offer e.g. 10 at a time in the store.

atm the max nr of character slots seems to be:

36 for VIP
34 for Premium

I had the former max number of slots on my VIP account, which were 23 (18 + 2 Moria + 2 VIP + 1 BeorningBundle)
Then I bought 10 new slots from the current sale, e.g. 33
There are 3 slots left to buy in the store

I second the nomina...er idea. If for no other reason the players need to break open their piggy banks so they know how many they need in order to move all offworld creations to overcrowded worlds. I find I have 15 currently on one account with only 2 of those open. Checking other worlds I find I have more than 2 toons that need new homes.

I've obviously read the articles pertaining to the massive server server shutdowns, new data center and server upgrades, but from what I've seen these transfers are not started nor am I seeing any official posts as to what's happening.

Am I just missing the obvious official posts that that've been delayed for whatever the reason?

We are releaseing a patch this morning with the improvements and at that time we will open up the service for 48 hours for the 5 Remaining US worlds: Arkenstone, Crickhollow, Landroval, Gladden and Brandywine (off world only) to shuffle among themselves. The service will then be turned off again Friday morning as we assess the data and wait for some of the new hardware effort to catch up to our transfer progress.

A hardware upgrade (possibly the database hardware) takes some time.

In mid-September to Early October we expect to start open transfers off of the closing worlds to the remaining worlds. We will begin with the smaller population worlds so as not to tax the old hardware as we transition to the new but still allowing those on the quiet worlds to start getting to know their new communities. In the October to November time frame is when we expect to be able to do the full switch over to the new hardware and data center for everyone and turn on transfers across all worlds. Please note this is our current timeline and is subject to change based on other delays that may occur during build out.

I do not personally believe that the testing is complete and expect at least one more period of live tests, but that is speculation, not known fact. I do believe from what I saw (and bugged) that there were some not-WAI sections in some of the non-character transfer code, which is why I expect that added test session.

Gotcha. Yeah, I was getting confused. It sounded like it was "Everyone get out NOW". Then once I got in, different story. I agree, I think they have some more tweeking/testing to do. 20ish down to only 5?!?! God Bless them. I wouldn't want to handle this. Thank you very much for the info!

It isn't quite that bad. 15 NA servers will be consolidated to 5. 14 EU servers will be consolidated to 5. The catch for the EU ones is that there are three supported languages and two of the three RP servers survived, leaving one general EN, one EN-RP, one general DE, one DE-RP, and one FR.

Current plan is to make sure some of the new hardware is in place before they open up transfers again. They may start opening up the transfers on a FEW servers (the ones listed on top of the list in the official announcement) before all hardware upgrades are complete, but I believe they want to make sure they have a lag-free new home to offer to the transferees. Whether the transfers between the 10 (5+5) servers will resume before that, I don't know.

I do know that they intend to LIMIT the amount of free transfers. During the test I abused the system by making a toon on Brandywine, taking the hobbit present, moving to the next server, taking the hobbit present, and so on, and so on.... I did this 2 days in a row, and got 10 hobbit presents when my toons ended up on Arkenstone. I think because of that, and because they don't want everyone to do this every day to get 5 hobbit presents a day, they are going to limit the free transfers between the 5 remaining servers to either a finite number (e.g. "three strikes and you are out"), you get to transfer once, twice, three times, but at the third time you better be moving to the server you are going to stay at, because after that it will be paid transfers..... OR perhaps allow 1 transfer per week during the "free" period, so people don't keep jumping servers every day to get more hobbit presents, putting unnecessary strain on the transfer systems.

These are the things they discover during the testing phase. And to make sure it goes as smooth as possible when transfers start from the closing servers..... they want to make sure there isn't anything that could cause problems.

At this moment I think a lot of things are falling in place at the same time. They announced a test on bullroarer for the new hardware (bullroarer is probably being moved to the new hardware as we speak and will be open for testing next week) to see if there are any problems with the new hardware in a production environment, and I am guessing they will move the 10 remaining servers in a week or two to the new hardware, and then the migrations can really start.
