When I first started the game, I didn't think much about my "story" in Middle Earth. To be honest, I didn't think about it at all until the server closures were announced. I spent a while slowing piecing together my story in my head over time. I don't exactly have the greatest memory, as most of you know. But let's see if I've remembered enough to tell a tale of Glorgnorbor the Wandering Captain/Bard...
--------------------
Year 1: 2011
It all started in March of 2011. I was looking for some kind of Lord of The Rings games, but lego style. I was freaking addicted to legos when I was 13. As I searched, I didn't find any Lego Lord of the Rings game(Ironic, isn't it? They come out with like 50 once I've mostly abandoned lego video games!), but I did come across a very popular and similar topic. "The Lord of the Rings Online." Now, of course we all know what THAT is. When I saw the game, and saw the loading screen. I immediately knew I'd be hooked. Now, remember: I was 13 years old at the time. Before I even downloaded the game, I begged and pleaded to my mum to let me get a VIP subscription. We made a deal and I got VIP... I was psyched! When the game finished downloading, and I saw the first cutscene(Ya know, the movie ya watch when you first enter the game?) I was giddy as all H-E-double hockey sticks.
When I finally got into the game(I had a DX9-11 Comparability Issue at first), I started a champion. Within 5 minutes of joining I had already asked, "How do I equip armor?" After I got a few troll answers, I deleted that character and considered deleting the game(The last thing I wanted was a game full of trolls!). But, after about two minutes of debating, I figured I'd try again. I rolled a captain: Jamesthegreat. When I entered the game with this guy, I found that a much kinder group of people was on. They helped me learn the basics(I was lazy... I shoulda just read the tooltips) and get me on my way!
I don't remember much else about my first year... Just one big, big, BIG thing. I encountered the music system. I found a person in Bree playing music near the pony. I don't remember the name, but I know that she was a captain. Was it Aerilyn? I think it might have been. She taught me how to use the music system and get .abc files from The Fat Lute. Some of you old bards will remember that site much better than I. That was the start of my big music "hobby" that has highlighted my LoTRO experience ever since. But we'll get more into that later.
-------------------
Year 2: 2012
My second year playing was the most important year for me. It marked the beginnings of my awesome friendship with my epic buddy(He'll yell at me for this later!) Bruzo. Now, a lot of people on Dwarrowdelf as a Minstrel and a musician. When I first encountered Bruzo, it was in Bree, in front of the Prancing Pony, playing music. Now at this point, I guess I should mention that I did take a six month break towards the end of year 1 and start of year 2. When I started back up, I decided to make an alternative character that was a hunter. I don't remember his name... But it started with an "A." Now. I got this guy up to level 25, and was wandering about in Bree, when I ran across three short hobbits playing tunes. You can guess who they were, right? Bruzo, Lutera, and Honkybong.
Now, back then, I was a very immature person. I decided I'd poke fun at them and kinda ruin the show. So I did this for a few minutes before I got bored. People were upset with me for trolling, of course, and Bruzo was telling people to add me to their ignore lists. Right after this, I felt really bad(Guilty Lil Jamesthegreat!). So I logged onto my main character(I think he was like lvl 34 at the time, Jamesthegreat) and deeply apologized to Bruzo for trolling him. Did I mention I took a 6 month break? Well, during that break, I had forgotten how to play music. So I inquired and asked how he did it. He taught me how, and that was the start.
Originally we played a few loose shows, once every now and then when we were on, that is. But after I while, I started to wonder if it would be fun to start a band. Now remember, I had never let Dwarrowdelf so I knew NOTHING about the huge music scene on servers like Landroval. I approached Bruzo about this idea, and eventually he agreed. So we started a band that we called "Playing out Loud." Slowly over time we recruiting a third member; Frie. We started out playing on Mondays and Fridays... Usually for small crowds of 3-4 people. However, eventually we caught on to the larger music scene, and we evolved into a more streamlined band.
This was pretty much the highlight of my 2nd year playing LoTRO. I got up to level 75 a few days before Riders of Rohan launched. Oh and I raced to Isengard at level 34 on a dare from my kinnies! And a bit later I did start my own kinship that managed to get over 200 members: The Brotherhood of Middle Earth(I derived the name from The Brotherhood of Assassins... I was and still am a HUGE AC nerd. #Syndicate!)
----------
Year 3: 2013
Year 3 was the first year that the band really became "something" other than a muddy receipt stuck in the ground. We had evolved to include 4 "human" members: Bruzo, Frie, myself, and Gorann/Dogarr. A month into the year, I read about something called "Weatherstock." For those of you who don't know, Weatherstock is a multi-server musical competition on the Landroval server where the top 10 bands compete! We got lucky though. There were 12 applicants... and 10 slots. We were nobodies! There was no way we'd ever get in to that competition! But the organizers were kind to us, and let us in along with the other band: deciding to host 12 shows that year.
As Weatherstock inched closer, we were getting nervous. Our songs were ready. We had: "Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones," "Hit me baby one more time - Brittany Spears," and "Through the Fire and Flames[Polka] - Dragonforce." We got to the top and rocked it, but our results weren't friendly... We came out in 2nd to last place! This inspired us to really up our game and improve to (in my opinion) the musicial powerhouse we are today(Ego much, Glorg?). Oh yeah! I should mention that. This was the year that Turbine decided that "Jamesthegreat" was lore-breaking, and renamed me to Glorgnorbor! It was also the year that I disbanded my Kinship...
I was really upset when I had to disband my kinship, but I knew that I had to do it. There were people upset with the way that the co-leaders were asking for me to shared leadership on a weekly rotation, and I didn't want to. So, I broke down and disbanded it. Think I can't get more detailed? I was on top of the stables in that settlement in The Brownlands in Great River.... I still remember it. So after that happened, I joined Soldiers of The Ring, where I met Eldalleth, Syrolf, and Pendalant(All cool people if you don't already know that!).
This year was also big for the band(Backtracking!) because we grew. Like, really. We became massive. I believe it was this year that Melusinae, Aliawen, and Satior started playing with us. Gorann also transferred away to a German server this year, so we lost him as a permanent bandmate.
------------
Year 4: 2014
Year 4 was a great year for me. I finally settled down in a kinship, the band was going awesome, and I was as happy as could be. This was the year that our line-up and fans helped us win Weatherstock! We played our set as usual(Competing with 10 other bands): "Barliman's Best - Bruzo," "Some Song about Sauron that I don't remember - ?," and "A third song that I don't remember - ?." After we won, we really started to see exactly how big the Music scene was. We started playing at events large and small, eventually meeting our little Dwarfy friend; Skirfir(Great guy BTW!). But we also had a few bumps in the road...
Year 4 was also the year that I spent 4 months out of the band. Let's just say that myself and a bandmate had a bit of a fight(A big 'un!) and it led to my temporary "departure" for the band. This was a really depressing part of my LoTRO story. The band, as you can probably tell by the amount of time I've spent typing about it, was a BIG part of my life. It kinda kept me sane... But, everything came back together and I was welcomed back in as if it had never happened. Actually, I'm not even sure I'm supposed to tell you about this... Well, I'll get a lashing or two later or it! LOL!
This was also the year that I joined Deliquents of Middle Earth. I kinda followed Bruzo into it... Actually, after my Kinship disbanded, I kinda followed Bruzo where ever the heck he went. Lol. Was I a bit of a stalker? Yea. Did I care? No. But I figured that since were we pretty close friends now, it would be better if we were in the same kinship. This was also the year that Satior kinda drifted away. I'm sure you can assume why, considering what I've told you about previous events in the year *cough cough.*
The year ended awesomely, with the majority of what happened good.
-------------
Year 5: 2015!
Welcome to 2015! The present day! Kinda... This year has been great so far. The band competed at Weatherstock again, where we came in 4th or 5th... I can't remember(A bit tired!) We played, "Vulgaris Magistralus - Hammerfall(I think?)" and two other songs that I'll edit into this tomorrow... After I sleep. The band is still holding together nicely, with the semi-return of our good friend Satior, and everything has pretty much been good for the band.
I've hit a few bumps in the road with school and such, but overall held my gaming life together.
Perhaps the biggest thing to get me this year was the server transfers. As most of you know, I decided to make an attempt to help hold the Dwarrowdelf server together. I organized a project, called the "Moses Project," to help us decide which server we'll go to as a majority. So far it's been going great and everything has been well. The band has acquired two new members, Carantir and Nessida, who come to our shows, dance, and have fun with us and the audience. While they don't actually play in the band, they are a very fun and lively part of the band that we often run instances with and have fun with in our TS/RC chatrooms.
The band is going to play at Archet Aid on the 17th of October, and probably a few more events before the year's end as well. We're working on a super secret musical event that I don't want to spill the beans on yet, but I will after the finer details are worked out with some other bands *hint hint.* We'll have to see what happens!
-----------
What does the future entail? I'm not sure. Of course my hope is to transfer to a server where I can continue to play music and interact with the community: Both the Dwarrowdelfian and the (?????????)-ian. Whatever happens though, I'll always consider LoTRO to be one of the greatest adventures of my teenage years, and one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life.
You guys, as a community, have made these last 4 years a wonderful journey of epic proportions. Wherever we end up, we should not despair. Wherever our community goes, we should not fear. We will always be Dwarrowdelfians. We will always be together, in spirit, in mind, and in heart. No matter what happens, I love you all equally. We have shared in victories, and losses. In hope and dread. In moments of fun and despair. We are Dwarrowdelfians, and we will always be one.
Thanks for reading my boring, long, and repetitive story!
I'll see you all in game,
Glorg!
