World Transfers

Here is a potential scenario I haven't read about.

My main is named Wulfgrim. A popular name as it was not available on any of the 5 remaining NA servers.
OK so my destination server is Landy once tranfers are open for my Ridermark server.
Last week the character named Wulfgrim from Elendilmir chose to transfer to Landy and arrived with the name Wulfgim~1.
A heartbroken Elendilmir Wulgrim~1 goes to seek counseling and neglects to change to a new name until he has had professional guidance.
So my turn at the transfers comes and BAZINGA Wulfgrim and Wulfgrim~1 exist on Landy...
As a former programmer/analyst I would simply increment a variable and rename to Wulfgrim~2 and then I would go seek my own counseling.

So my question... since there is a very real possibility for multiples of the more popular names transferring to the same server will my beloved Wulfgrim not only lose his name but also "blow up real good" upon arrival?

They should be available. But atm they do not appear in the list. There is no info (yet) if this is intended or not.

Your name will just get a -2 after it, there is a person on Gladden with -16 I believe it is or was, unless they have changed it since.

If you come in with Name, you'll get Name-1, next Name-2, then Name-3, etc.

If you come in with Name-1, or Name-2, and there already exist those, you'll get Name-1-1, or Name-2-1 respectively. (Then obviously Name-1-2, or Name-2-2, etc.)

It's pretty sad if this was done intentionally, without there being any sort of official announcement regarding it.

Not to worry, you won't "blow up real good". If Wulfgrim and Wulfgrim-1 exists, you will become Wulfgrim-2.

When we tested on Bullroarer I ended up with my main name "Main-3", as I copied over my main name that I used on 4 servers to Bullroarer. On Arkenstone I have already seen a "Name-2" of something and a "Name-3" of something.

The chance that you will get a -2, -3, -4 or higher is quite real, especially if you are on a server scheduled for later. But it will just continue counting up if the next one isn't available. I have yet to spot a Name-5 or higher.

I heard of people trying to get "Catch-22" during the 48 hours of free transfers + character creation still open. I believe there was even someone who was going to attempt "Position-69", but I don't know if they succeeded.

On Gladden we have one that's a -16 and one that's a -69 so far. Oh, and one that's a -113 if I remember correctly.

I think names like that have to be changed. I do not think Turbine intended the server consolidation to be a free renaming service (they sell renames in the turbine store, after all) I guess it comes with the system, but there are people who additionaly tax the system by submitting a pile of server transfers just to get a funny name, which adds to queue times and server load, and is probably one of the reason why transfers between remaining worlds will remain closed until the other servers are done with consolidation. (aka> that's why we can't have nice things)

As funny as some of them may be to some people, these names would not be acceptable if you chose them when creating the character, any means to circumvent this naming policy via the transfer service is IMO an unintended exploit, and at the very least these people need to have their names changed. It is going to be bad enough to have half of the players running around with numbers in their name, we do not have to have silly names referencing movies, bad jokes and sexual positions running around in Middle Earth.


(Edit: Personally I would even go a step further and look to remove any names with numbers in it, I was always very surprised to see people running around with -1's in their names. Those names should at best be temporary. Or change the system so it just adds vocals if the name is taken. I'd take Aaragorn Aaaraagorn and Aaragoorn over Aragorn-1, Aragorn-2 & Aragorn-3 and Aragorn-4. But like I said that is my personal opinion, and I can understand why this wouldn't happen, there would be pushback from the community, and who would pay for it?)

I initiated my transfers last night around this time. That means 24 hours and I haven't received an e-mail. I was told NOT to log in or attempt to log in until I got one, at the peril that it may ruin something or screw something up. So I've been patient.

Can you please comment, Frelorn, on whether players who haven't received an e-mail should wait until they do or if they should simply try logging in? If attempting to log in will ruin something, I'm going to wait. If Turbine says, you absolutely positively can't log in if it isn't ready, then I guess I will try logging in.

Again, I'm not trying to transfer now, I tried to transfer last night. Up until then, the most a kin member said they waited for an email was maybe 3 hours and most were almost instantaneous.

Also, if the transfer process is broken, does that mean it's likely that something went wrong with my transfer (since I don't have a confirmation e-mail)?

And are you looking into reports that Landy servers have been full preventing people from logging in and this does not bode well for future transfers? Seems like this is a pretty important issue.

Don't forget the French ! Estel aren't available too. As said earlier, XML files shows that things have been reversed from the way it used to be all week long. Don't know why. Maybe when you enable the palantir one for internal testing.

My transfer from Elendilmir to Arkenstone went quickly and smoothly (taking perhaps 1 hour but then it was late at night) except that one of the kin members was expelled from the kinship for reasons or causes unknown. I know it was not a deliberate act of the kinship because the member was one of my characters and I know that when I did the transfer procedure I did not leave her out nor was any other kin member with that authority online. She ended up on Arkenstone like the other characters in my account except now she was out of the kinship.

She's a mule for my account. Level 10. She was in the Shire housing instance, standing outside the place where the vendors and vault was, when the transfer took place.

The kinship is not heavily populated with players so she is stuck outside the kinship for the time being. I'll get her back in as soon as they can get logged in with their master character to do it.

I just think this was kind of strange. Did I miss some warning somewhere?

You transferred all characters at once? This is a valid way to do it but I would always be worried that one or more characters might arrive before the kinship leader character. In that case they will arrive but their kinship doesn't exist yet.
So I would always transfer kinship leader first then house owner then shared account stuff then rest of the characters and always wait until one transfer is done before doing the next. I think that this is the safest way to do the transfers.

The transfer for EU is only available at the moment from Gwaihir [DE] and Sirannon [FR], transfert from Estel [FR-RP] is closed for the moment for my account

Damn, this is confusing, I am getting transfer option to get to Palantir(?). WTH is going on?
Needless to say I will not actually do anything, but just seeing the option to transfer there is weird.

No transfers from Gwaihir or Sirannon should be active. And if Estel transfers are closed, no EU player can transfer anywhere.
