Update 5pm EST we are still seeing issues with Nimrodel when we turn transfers on for it. We are investigating the issue, but do not have an ETA at this time

Update 5:35pm EST We now have confirmations that transfers off of Nimrodel are going through successfully and it should be seen in the wizard. You should be good to transfer now.

No. There is no PHYSICAL move of servers. They are putting in NEW servers (the hardware is probably already racked in a datacenter in Amsterdam and pre-configured with hypervisors) on which they will build NEW virtual machines. These virtual machines will sync up with the existing servers in Boston (and they likely are already testing this), and at some point they will do a cutover. At that point they will replicate the last changes from Boston to Amsterdam, and then bring up the servers in Amsterdam.

There will not be a physical move, as in picking up a server in Boston, putting it on a boat, and unpacking a box in Amsterdam. It doesn't work like that, you may be thinking of the 1990s. It's all virtualized nowadays, new hardware will be installed, and all that is "moved" is actual data, over the internet, from the old hardware in Boston, to the new hardware in Amsterdam.

The exact same process will happen with the US servers, who are moving from Boston to somewhere in New Jersey. No one is driving over physical hardware on "moving day", the snapshots of virtual servers will just be updated, synced, and replicated to the new datacenter.

You also need to understand that a "server" is not a "single computer with lots of cpus and ram". It is instead a cluster of virtual machines, all playing a vital role in what is known as a "server". A lotro "server" could contain dozens of these virtual machines, some may be shared among servers, some are exclusive to that server, etc.... the complete architecture is not know, but I do know that there are no "physical" servers when it comes to lotro. There is physical hardware of course with loads of cpu and memory, but they just contain hypervisors to host many many more virtual servers.

Living in Europe, i'd like to know if you are still on a move to Netherlands... because even with a 'new server', if my ping is still 120 ms, i'll be disappointed...

Getting the hourglass and a long wait but eventually the worlds come up. Problem is, Nimrodel is still missing for me - all the other worlds are showing except that one (and yes I do have characters on Nimrodel)

Tried to transfer from Nimrodel at 2:56pm Central and Nimrodel isn't showing on the "Transfer From" server list. The servers listed on the Transfer From list are: Eldar, Brandywine, Elendilmir, and Firefoot. What's really strange is I have 13 toons on Nimrodel but no toons on Brandywine, Elendilmir, or Firefoot. And I don't remember the last time I logged onto Eldar.

Yeah I just noticed the same thing. Not a big deal for me, the level 5 there is a remnant from many eons ago when I was trying different servers......but I have been using it as of late to collect a hobbit-gift or two.

You are correct though that the transfer is not up....

Tried to transfer off Nimrodel. Not showing up. Only Gilrain is. Landroval showed up fine the week we could transfer between the five.
Friend who only has characters on Nimrodel said he didn't show transfers off Nimrodel at all.

Long wait on the hourglass for me as well. Have every transferable server listed except Nimrodel. Eastern Canada here if that helps.
