Sorry for the confusion! The Samwise Gamgee's Starter Pack was removed from the store as it no longer provided the benefits that were described, mainly the 15 extra inventory slots. We still have the Steely Dawn Starter Pack available through Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/213179/) and the Mithril Edition Pack through GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/pc/games/the...-edition/97978).

That's an unfortunate move. A starter pack providing account-wide riding skill and currency cap removal was very versatile. I hope you reinstate it after removing/editing the nonfunctional components. Having to resort to third party products for a starter pack is derogatory for Turbine customers.

Agreed 110%. Well said. That was extremely disappointing to find out the starter pack was removed. I now feel as if i can't find anything as good as that one, and thus i will not be making a purchase.

You need to get the Samwise Gamgee Starter Pack removed from Amazon as well. I purchased it from there, received a code, and the code was invalid. Thus creating an issue for me trying to receive a refund from amazon because i have to go between turbine support and amazon support now (Amazon wants me to contact turbine and then contact them after i receive a response and resolution from turbine). This is becoming a nightmare.

If this product is no longer sold, please have it removed from Amazon immediately so other customers don't have to go through the same issues I'm going through right now.

Those other packages might be nice, but upon casual review, I didn't notice that they unlocked the riding skill, which was part of why folks might have been buying this. Maybe add Turbine Points to it to cover purchasing the riding skill? And then let folks know they still have to buy it in-game. Just a thought.

I must say that, while I am usually very forgiving about silly things that happen with this game, I'm shocked the item is still listed on Amazon when it is no longer viable. It seems someone missed the boat.

As an aside, I bought a hard-copy of the Mithril Edition when it came out, and it was great because it unlocked many places I still needed, so if anyone needs those areas, I'd recommend it.

The Sam Gamgee pack provided account wide riding skill, i.e. you got the riding skill on all your characters. If you buy the riding skill with TP it will cost 95 TP per character.
So, not obvious how many TP would be needed to cover that....

You can get the riding skill account-wide though: Buying the Apprentice Riding Trait or Journeyman Riding Trait from the store includes the riding skill.
If you are VIP you can also get the riding skill for free on each character by doing a short quest at level 20.

There have also been a free starterpack (different from Sam Gamgee's) that included the riding skill. Not sure if that is still available somewhere.

Also I notice that the price for a 60day time card from GameStop in the USA is now $5.97 (approx £4).
Come on Turbine, I've already posted about this, your Subscription price through myaccount.turbine.com should ALWAYS be the most attractive option!
If you are going to offer game time cheaper either through the LOTRO market or through 3rd parties; why the hell would anyone in their right mind take a subscription?

EDIT: I've now done a search to see if I can buy cheap game time in the UK.
Game no longer sells time cards, Amazon UK no longer sells time cards, and it appears that apart from a few dodgy looking sites time cards are no longer available in the UK?

Turbine often has amazing sales, such as the Thanksgiving weekend 75% off, and the Holiday sales around Christmas. Older expansion packs are often discounted at 50%, and the $27.99 three month deal on VIP is pretty decent.

Sure, North Americans might be able to find better discounts with game cards, but you could always use an online card such as EntroPay, and use those to purchase from American based stores. If the codes get delivered by email anyways, it doesn't matter where you live.

Game Time cards are physical and not available for digital delivery. (they have a scratch strip on the back with the code underneath).
Also they are no longer available for purchase anywhere in the UK, forcing us into using Turbine or LOTRO Market.

Some time ago Turbine promised that Game Time cards would again be available in the UK, also that LOTRO Game Time Cards would be discontinued and be replaced by Turbine Cards that could be used for either LOTRO or D&D. Though this looks like yet another empty promise.

And yes, I do own several credit cards, I also maintained a continuous subscription for VIP through myaccount.turbine.com for over 2years, AND I also took advantage of the 1yr discount on VIP when it was on sale last year, but subsequently cancelled it as I noticed that 12 months through the LOTRO Market was the same price as the DISCOUNTED price through myaccount.turbine.com.

Sooo... anyone in the US close to a GameStop that would take paypal? (joke as I'm sure this would be against the rules about re-selling).

Regular credit cards as such is actually somewhat uncommon in the EU. Far more common are debit cards, which in most cases can be used just like credit cards though, but not quite everyone has one of those either.

Then there are of course sometimes problems with one payment method or another. For a long time I could not buy a regular subscription on my account because Turbine would not accept my card. I could but a digital time card through the LOTRO market though.

Some people are also, for various reasons, highly reluctant to give out their cardnumbers to more places than absolutely necessary.

Just to let people know that although it is not possible to purchase it in the Store now, you can still redeem the code for the Samwise Gamgee's Starter Pack via the Account page.

I tried this evening and the code was accepted and email received confirming this. After a little delay after logging a few times the parcel with the steed and riding skill was delivered to all my characters and those newer ones with the currency cap had the message that is was now lifted on logging.

The only element that did nothing was the Inventory slots as expected as I already have these maxed and as noted above, this no longer works with the bags change etc.

Given the cost in the store for the Currency Cap item 395 TP and the 95 TP per character for the Riding Skill or Apprentice Riding Trait (Account) (admittedly gives some extra features) at 1995 TP, plus a steed for all new characters, even wtihout the inventory slots it provides good value and is often found at cheaper prices.

Hopefully a new alternative can be provided as others have suggested to cover these features.

Ok so I've brought a new person into the game and tried to gift the Mithril Edition from Gamestop and now we can't buy that either. It lets me put it in the cart but when I checkout and pay, it says "One or more items have been deleted or modified based on the availability." no alternatives now? People are not going to recommend this game.

Is that right? So if I went and bought it off of Amazon I would get the currency cap and the horse skill? How do I redeem from my account page? Sorry for the questions but I'm a bit of a noob.

I'm also a noob and was recommended to buy this starter pack. Could not find it in the store but did find it with a duckduckgo search. However I get an error message trying to buy it. I was mostly looking for the riding skill and horse for all characters account wide.

Please add the Samwise Gamgee Starter Pack back to the store! Either fix it if it's broken or change the text description and remove the info about the inventory It's a great way to get friends who you have lured into playing LOTRO to stay for good It's not super expensive and have a few nice practical things included, so it's quite popular for newbies

Oh, and a friend of mine bought one recently and did get the promised inventory slots added, so maybe it's only broken for some people? Still, please add it again, and just change the text until you can fix it, or just add a new item: "Frodo Baggins Starter Pack" without the inventory slots, because as we all know... Sam was the one who had to carry everything! Well... except a tiny lil ring!

Hi all,

just created a new account to help out a friend and the very first thing we saw after creating the account is an advertisement and a Learn More! button about the samwise gamgee starter pack...which is no longer available according to this forum. Of course the button leads to a 404 page not found error.

Talk about a tease. The starter pack looks like a great start and we'd really like to purchase it. However, even the alternative options are a no-go for us as we are not playing through steam and the game-stop pack appears to no longer exist. Not that these are comparable offerings in the first place.

Is there any possibility that the starter pack, or some version of it, will be available again? We're largely interested in the riding skill and currency cap.

If you're going to advertise it, please follow through with an offering. It's VERY frustrating for a new player.
