    More spam!

We really need more spam in the forums, having them only in a couple important forums isn't enough, let them in all!!!

Fix you please Turbine, this is annoying and you should be embarrassed as well to have it in your forums! I am sure WB and Turbine have been around long enough, and have the skill to fix this? Doesn't give me hope for the games if not...

Look 5 more pages today, thanks Turbine. You apparently can't control your forums, game or ? from the looks of it... Guess I'll go check out the GW2 forums and play there...

I'm rather appalled that even on a work day they didn't clean it up. It's no longer just a weekend issue, now it's an every day issue.
I'd explain it to you, but I'm all out of Puppets and Crayons.

For your first post I'd say you are going to fit in to the lotro community (lol) perfectly.

The most pathetic thing about it is that about 90% of all the spam comes from a single account - kcsharma17, who despite having been spamming for well over a week now, still hasn't been banned.

I'm aware that, if they haven't got the proper tools in place to deal with spam, that manually banning/deleting accounts may seem a tad fruitless, but this one has been going for so long that Turbine (specifically Frelorn - surely this is his job as community manager?) appears completely lazy and uncaring in not dealing with it. While it may not solve all the problems, banning the current spamming accounts would be a good start.

Exactly, how hard can it be? The other spamming account is vknkmkakbababoss, but not as prolific.

Thorgum, you sound like an imbecile. Turbine is PAID to fix this junk via our VIP and other monies it gets from us. THEY need to fix it, not some joe blow no one from wherever deciding what is good or not...

I've cancelled 3 VIPS and gotten a refund on TP I got at Xmas due to these ongoing, unaddressed issues. More need to do the same as our wallets will be heard more then our words apparently. They SHOULD have the talent to fix the forums and GAME, and if not, they should give up and close them, this is embarrassing for the community, TB and Warner Brothers...

An imbecile would be someone who reads text and tells someone else how they sound, which would be you.

    Credit where credit is due...

I'm not condoning it, I find the forum spam absurd and ridiculous. However, I will say that Baba Ji, in all of his geographic locations and various specialties, is one of the most determined spammers I have ever seen. Day after day, new account after new account, he is COMMITTED.

Speaking of giving credit, great idea by Thorgrum. I know there are plenty of people on these forums that care enough about the game and its players to moderate in a responsible and professional manner as volunteers. Since we have applications every year to be on the Players Council, perhaps something similar for a few volunteer forum mods to handle simple things like deleting spam. Larger decisions like banning could still be kicked upstairs to the official Turbine employees. Why not give this a shot?

Baba Ji's robo-minions spew the same spam in forums wide and near. Someone is getting paid some miniscule amount per post, so they post everywhere they can.

A volunteer spam-hammerer for the new player and technical forums would be great. The successful class action lawsuit against AOL by it's volunteer moderators may hev put a damper on any large company like Warner Brothers permitting a volunteer worker to do this.

The really strange thing about this to me is that the spam tends to come in batches which are incredibly similar and/or have a couple of keywords that are the same in the title which should make them easy to get rid of.

Write a rule for the forum that auto-deletes any thread with "Baba Ji" in the title, and you'd kill a whole lot of spam without losing anything of value (at worst you'd accidentally delete a thread of people complaining about Baba Ji spam...).

Write a rule that if there are more than two posts with titles that are 75% identical on the same day they get marked as "visible only to forum admins" (so that on the off chance the rule screwed up you'd be able to restore the posts), and every time we got a slew of ads for the same thing, they'd all vanish automatically. That would kill most of the spam attacks, since the spam tends to come as dozens of basically identical posts. It isn't perfect in the sense that spammers could sink more time into writing creative posts, but since the spammer is likely being paid a tiny amount per post, raising the cost/difficulty to the spammer will eventually make them move on to some other forum that is an easier target.

Heck, since they tend to come in clusters, you could probably get a lot of mileage out of a rule "if there are more than 5 posts in the New Player Questions & Impressions Forum, page the forum admin". At least during working hours, your admin would then be able to respond really quickly, and if it was a false alarm because we have a bunch of very talkative new players today, they could get back to work in a minute, and if it was a spam attack, they could spend five minutes deleting threads. Again, this isn't going to solve every spam ever, but it would at least help a lot with the most common case that is hitting this board.
