    All worlds closed?

Hi, I just recently bought Mines of Moria Collector's Edition (Not Codemasters) and am attempting to get into it... Butttttt it says all worlds are closed! ALL of them. Does this mean updates or am I missing something?
    Thanks for y'all's help!

All worlds are currently up and I can see players in them and they are showing on the Launcher? Where are you seeing a world closure message? The Launcher is usually the best place to check server status.

I also recommend downloading the game here: https://www.lotro.com/en/game/download and not using a CD install version. You will ensure you are connecting to the correct launcher that way and save yourself a lot of patching time.

I am seeing all worlds closed from the launcher-yes.

I have already used the CD for Moria, however, I have been playing the 'regular' game with that online download for almost a year now. What should I do if I use your link? Will it put Moria on there too if I completely uninstall my stuff?

Moria is a key unlock you got int he box, it is account based and not based on your install. If you already have the Moria key added to your account you will have access to it once you install from the download I provided. It sounds like your install may have gotten corrupted and is pointing you to an outdated launcher. The download should fix that.

The only thing you need from that box is a key which you apply after logging in to your account at https://myaccount.turbine.com (First log in, then apply key - not the other way around.)
Once the key has been applied to your account you should have full access to Moria regardless of how you install your game.

(The code on that CD is OLD. Lots, and lots, and lots of things will have changed since then - so it will almost certainly be both quicker and better to download the latest version of the installer directly from lotro.com)

Okay. I haven't entered the key yet because it forces me to pay more money to have a VIP account. I didn't know that when I bought the box and felt sort of ripped off.

The worlds for my 'older' gameplay are all open, but my Moria is all closed and I suppose that is why. I guess I'm going to have to pay MORE money. :/ Do I have to have a permanent VIP to continue playing Moria even though I bought their collector's edition? Will I still have some features after VIP ends because I bought their 'real-life' stuff? I want to know why I didn't at least get a time card. Ugh.

Huh? You should not need to be VIP to be able to enter a Moria code key. On the contrary using a code from a Moria box should give you 30 days of VIP time.

Yes, it forces me to pick a VIP subscription after I ender the key and won't let me continue. I didn't understand that and it said I would get free 30 days, but it's not happening. That's why I feel ripped off.

Maybe this is like a ripoff box because they took the time key out...I did receive 2 of Frodo's rings.

    Sounds very strange.
I have never had the opportunity to use a Moria box so I am not sure exactly what should happen, but just to check that you haven't missed something, did you:

    1) Go to https://myaccount.turbine.com
    2) Log in there using the same username and password you normally use to login to the game
    3) Once logged in enter your key in the "Product Key" field

If you did all that and get any kind of error message what exactly does it say?

Yep, did all that. And after I enter the Product Key, no error message,it just goes to the next bit and forces me to choose VIP subscription. If I do not pay for one, it does not let me use the key.

Under the 'my subscriptions', however, it shows that it is there, along with the f2p account, but it is nowhere on the game and there is definitely no VIP access. It says NO VIP under Mines of Moria, and won't let me enter any 'worlds'.

Faint memories start bubbling up from older discussions...
Try choosing Game Time card, and then 'Enter Card Later' if that option should be there.

I'm a Founder/Lifetimer and have been through all this with many folks many times.

ALL media (CDs) associated with ALL Boxed editions of LOTRO are obsolete. In particular, the SoA and MoM editions used a totally different launcher structure.
They cannot be updated, and will not work with the current World (server) structure. (That is the reason why they all show as "closed.")

The download edition from lotro.com contains ALL of the content from ALL updates. Access to all Expansions (i.e updates) are controlled by entering KEYS at my account.turbine.com.

As was mentioned, when you enter the key for MoM you will become a VIP member (Subscriber) for a period of 30 days.

That option isn't there. Both ways that are available to enter a Game Time card just immediately pull up a 'bar' to enter a code. No options.

So what should I do, Valamar? Should I uninstall all LOTRO stuff on my comp and then what?

When I see Mines of Moria on my launcher, it says NO VIP. The key worked, but didn't give VIP and won't let me into 'worlds'.

When you downloaded the game - the one you've been playing for almost a year - you downloaded ALL the game. Including Moria. All the keycode you got with the box does is unlock access to the quests there. You don't need to install anything off the CD.

    Right. Beaten by Valamar.

I'm thinking that, yes, you'll probably have to reinstall the game if you've installed anything from the CD.

Yes, but it didn't give me my VIP and won't even let me into the Mines of Moria! It wants to force me to pay money for VIP, I think, to access it. Ughhh, what is wrong??? x.x

You can't use the software on the Moria CDs to play the game. It can't connect to the Turbine game servers. You must use the downloaded version of the game software. The reason you are required to choose a VIP option is that the Moria keys are from 2008. Back in 2008 the game was subscription only. Hence you are required to choose a subscription plan and enter a payment method - credit card.

    Here is my suggestions:

    1) Delete you installation. Destroy the CDs. Download the game software and install it. You will be able to play.

    2) Call Turbine Account Management when they open in a few hours. They will be able to fix up your account for you. You get your content unlock - become VIP for 30 days.
Unless stated otherwise, all content in this post is My Personal Opinion.

Do not use the CD you got with the box to install the game. Do not use any launcher installed from the CD. That CD is very old and the launcher will try to use servers that are no longer there.

If necessary - clear the game completely from you computer and then reinstall using an installer downloaded from https://www.lotro.com/en/game/download

Once you have done that, and using a "modern" launcher - can you log in and enter any world? Does the game show you as VIP? (Look at the character selection screen.)

If the key did work (which you say) the answer should be yes to both those questions.
Either way, you should never need to be VIP just to log into the game.

Okay, I have uninstalled Mines of Moria. Should I also uninstall the LOTRO 'main game', as well?

Also, how do I download the digital Mines of Moria version without having to pay for it again?

Thanks, also, for all of y'all's help. I know it's a pain, and thank you very, very much!!!

You said you had a client installed that worked, correct? That's all you need to play the entire game, expansions and all. You just would need to purchase the expansions you don't already have and they're unlocked in-game automatically.

If you aren't labeled as VIP in the launcher and cannot access Moria still in-game, then something didn't go right.
My best guess is that the code you go is b0rked since it's so old.
I'd recommend calling their tech support to see if you can get things sorted out if it's still not allowing you access to Moria.
You never know, might get some free TP for all your trouble as well!

I don't know about the Moria CD's, but just as a data point... Literally 2 days ago I installed LOTRO on a fresh Windows computer using the original Shadows of Angmar CD's. After installation, I started the extremely old Launcher and let it patch naturally. It now works just fine. The correct and current Launcher is used, the client works fine, I've logged in and played characters, everything if fine.

I'm not sure what's happening here. Perhaps it's just an issue with the Moria version. Perhaps it's something else.

In case you're wondering, I installed from the old CD's and let it patch simply out of curiosity. I wanted to see if patching still worked. Usually I install using my old CD's and then copy over the entire, current installation from another computer without downloading any patches. That also works fine.

It seems that you are referring to Mines of Moria as a separate game. From what you have said, you believe that you have two games, a "LotRO 'Main Game'" and a "Mines of Moria" game. LotRO is just LotRO, only one game, ever. Mines of Moria is an expansion, not a separate game. Your existing install of LotRO, the "main game" as you describe it, has Moria included, as well as all areas after Moria. You can explore the entirety of the game through that install, without ever paying a cent.

The expansions open quests in the newer areas, that is all. Taking your character through the Epic Story quest line will take you to the various areas as you level up.

When you say "along with the f2p account," it sounds as though you now have two separate accounts. You do not need two separate accounts. What you need to do is apply the Key Code from the Mines of Moria box you have to your existing f2p account. If you have any trouble with the Key Code, you would need to contact customer support. It seems odd, to me at least, that you purchased a box in present time. Where did you buy the box from? It's possible the Key Code from the box is used, thus would no longer work. If you have any problems with it, call customer support.

However, again, there is only one LotRO game, period. You would never need to install a separate game or start a separate account to play any of the LotRO content.

It seems the CD's installed a very very very very very very old launcher/server ####-thing. Called customer service and am having to reinstall everything. I'll let y'all know if it turns out okay.

Got the box from off of Amazon...probably from someone older... LOL Oh well, hopefully this will work out.

It seems most (not all maybe, but most) games now days are installed via downloads. In 2014, I purchased a newer game from Amazon too. My old-school mentality felt getting the disc to install the game was a better investment than just buying a Key online and downloading it. I was wrong. After anxiously waiting for the disc to arrive for a couple of weeks, I opened it and stuck it in my computer. The only data on the disc was a Steam install, that was it, and the Steam install was obsolete. So after going through all of that, I had to download Steam (had never used it before), then download and install the game, and apply the Key from the box. Now I've learned to just look for the download first (though I rarely venture into new games anyway).

A fresh download and install should take care of it all for you. Be sure to continue using your existing account that you've mentioned so you keep your characters and progress.
