Anyone ever run into the reverse of this issue where scrolling the mouse a little will cause you to zoom all the way in or all the way out? Might be a separate issue but I thought I would throw it out there in case it's related.

I have gotten this bug a fair amount of time. For me, it was always related to the CombatAnalysis plugin.

I do not know how to reproduce it, but it was typically when my camera was at the default (on log-in) distance and I would be scrolling through some of the features of the plugin.

Sometimes after noticing the bug, I could go back to the plugin and scroll around wherever I was previously looking at and then close the drop down box that I was scrolling in. This would resolve it, however if I was scrolling around in multiple drop down menus, I might forget which one was the one that bugged and it would become a guessing game.

If that guessing game was fruitless, I could unload all plugins and the bug would be removed.

I never got it from mail or npcs, but I would assume it has something to do with drop down menus in general and not closing them properly (i.e. clicking a selection in that menu or the box, as opposed to just hitting escape, closing the entire interface without finishing what you were scrolling in, etc.). This might cause the game to think you are still scrolling around in there (since you obviously aren't changing your camera angle while scrolling through a menu).

    1. What is your operating system?
      • Windows 10 Professional 64 bit.
    2. Is your mouse wired or wireless?
      • Wired.
    3. Are you using any LotRO plugins?
      • Yes; CombatAnalysis, TonicBars, BuffBars, PredictInGameTime.
    4. Do you typically play full-screen, fake full-screen, or windowed?
      • Windowed Full-screen.
    5. Do you frequently switch away from the LotRO process to work in other windows?
      • Yes, often. I have a dual-monitor configuration so I simply move my cursor off the screen rather than alt-tabbing.
    6. What are the mouse name and drivers as reported from dxdiag.exe? (please do not post a full dxdiag export)
      • Logitech G502 up-2-date drivers installed.
    7. Any other patterns you have observed about your behaviour just before the bug starts occurring.
      • I've had this happen while questing, not just while checking the AH or mailbox. Typical symptoms to reproduce often involve having to zoom in so my vision is not obstructed by foliage, walls, landscape objects, etc.. than at a later time wanting to zoom back out so I can see more. I also rotate my camera frequently by holding down my right mouse button, along with using the keyboard to rotate the camera as well. In order to fix the zoom issue a restart of the game client is required, though an emergency temporary solution is to use he numpad to zoom back out. I do a lot of streaming so if I notice it happen again I'll link a video with the timecode stamp.

Thanks, and good luck to us all!
I can reproduce this bug all the time, with all my character. 100% so far. So I can try to help you. I'll give you all the infos, even if it may not be useful at all (better too much than not enough).
I use the VIP mail "anywhere" (not the actual physical mailbox).
This bug started to happen (at least recently, I have been affected since release, on and off) when I was selling mass stuff on the AH, and going through tons of mails. Selling low level recipes for their vendor price (for newbies and stuff).
I tend to be too fast and trigger the "slow down" thing.
I never saw this bug related to posting stuff on the AH, even with the "slow down" warning. I did use all the AH slots (20?) but the zoom was still working afterwards.
The bug will carry through all the character once it happened, forcing me to exit the game and restart. Simply going back to menu and then on another character will not do anything.
Only happen when using mails. I didn't see it happened elsewhere, at least recently. Years before it happened more consistently, but the issue back then seems to have been fixed a long time ago.

    1/Win 10 64bit.
    3/wired
3/Some. Titanbar, stable guy, huge bag (which I think is useless nowadays), alt inventory, tonicbar, moormap, songbook, alt wallet, buff bar. And one for the UI (azure glass ?). I also used to have this bug back before, when I only had the UI mod.
4-5/Fake fullscreen-fullscreen windowed. In the past alt tabbing used to trigger the bug, but it was a long time ago, and it's not happening anymore. Nowadays I can have the bug a few second in, without alt tabbing once. It doesn't seems to matter. I tend to alt tab during loading though.

7/Well I kinda covered a bit earlier. Step by step "how to trigger the bug" for me :
a/log in a character (doesn't matter which one)
b/open mail. Start opening mail taking unsold item/cash from AH.
    c/stop using mail when done.
    d/bug

I did a test twice, trying to zoom out while still in the mail system, after going through a few mail but not all of them, and the slow down warning being triggered. The first time zoom was still responsive, but wasn't once I was finished dealing with my mails and left the menu, after the test. The second time, zoom was unresponsive while still in the menu during the test. Might be related to the total number of warning/mails, or it's a chance each time.

    Another test :
-taking cash (AH sell) from the mail made the mouse unresponsive. Taking only unsold items didn't make it unresponsive. I was unable to test this further, since I only sold stuff on a single character.
-further testing, while taking unsold item didn't made it unresponsive, canceling a sell and taking the item did. A single mail as opposed to 20ish before. I was unable to reproduce this though, despite doing exactly the same on another character.

I still have recipes to sell ready to go, if you want me to do further testing (even though it's super annoying to restart the game every time). Or if you want the account name to copy the character, let me know.

Can't tell but I'll pay closer attention to it when the bug occurs the next time. Unlike other posters, I'm pretty sure I've seen it occurring in many situations that aren't related to the mailbox.

Just found this post, and I'm baffled at how mods can't recreate it at all.

Me and 15 other kinnies just recreated the bug 5 times back to back.
I myself personally can recreate it 100% of the time and have been able to for months.

Get mail. Open mail box, toggle the wheel of a mouse up and down then open the actual mail you got and use wheel again. Tada. Works for me and others 100% of the time.

Exactly. I've had it happen like this on Mail, AH and when scrolling wheel while getting onto a mount.

I just tried this several times without reproducing the bug.

I have run into this bug forever, but it's pretty rare for me and seems much less frequent in the last few years.

    Nowadays:
    - I get this bug several times a week (almost everyday) when I check the mail to collect my AH sales.
    - It is not necessarily related if I use or not the wheel, sometimes happens if I have one mail, sometimes if I have ~10 mails

    In 6 years of gameplay:

    - It has happened to me when switching characters, and switching a random of times may fix it (this is rare).
    - It also has happened after entering a house/instance (this is rare), the same random fix.
    - I has happened with other mice and Windows versions
    - It seems to be more frequent in some client builds. (this impression is totally subjective, considering there are periods without using the mail so often)

    Today:

Since I'm positive that, while having to clients running, it is possible to get the bug in one client but not in the other.

I made several tests, using one character to send, 1-10 mails with random items and money to the other, who used AND not the mousewheel while opening the mail and detaching the items and money. I did this in Falathlorn homesteads AND in Bree's West Vault.

I was not able to reproduce the bug. (yes a bug that usually happens me when I use the mailbox ).

Good Luck with this one and thanks

I reproduced the bug using the AH (Bree West Gate), on both characters.

    - Character One detaching 1 bought item, from one mail.
    - Character Two detaching the coin from one mail

    • Using the mouse wheel: no bug
    • Not using the mouse wheel: no bug

    - Character One detaching items from 10 mails.
    - Character Two detaching coin from 10 mails

    • Using the mouse wheel = bug
    • Not using the mouse wheel = bug

I can reproduce this problem 100% of the time.

This is what gives me the Zoom bug 100% of the time.

Step 1: Have multiple letters ready to read... enough so that the mail window gets a scroll bar on the side.

Step 2: Double Click the top letter to open.

Step 3: Delete that opened letter.

    Step 4: Profit.

I hope this helps you reproduce the bug.

Thanks for the information you have all provided. There have been a few new suggestions here that I don't recall seeing on previous threads, but I'm still unable to get a repro. However, the trend so far points overwhelmingly towards either Logitech or Razer mice hardware and drivers. Further, the results indicate that the problem is OS, display type, hardware connection type, and plugin agnostic, so no need to focus on those points any longer. I have requisitioned various Logitech and Razer mice which should arrive sometime next week.

For what it's worth I use a Corsair m90 and have it happen regularly when i'm at the AH possibly with the mail window open, not sure on that last part if it's always the case.

When I moved from a logitech wireless mouse to a logitech G502 hardwire mouse, the scroll zoom / mail scroll bug stopped occurring.

I haven't been reading all the posts regarding this issue, but I can say that I have had this same bug occur in other types of mice too than just Logitech or Razer brand. Now I have a wired Logitech G300 (never owned a Razer one) and had this zoom bug happen to me about a week ago, but I did experience it also back in 2010-2013 when I used Microsoft mouse.

I, too, have thought it is about mail. But when it happened again week ago, I *think* I hadn't opened mail box at all, but just ported that character to Hrimbarg, went inside to talk to the dwarves, and when I came out I noticed the zoom wasn't working. As said, I can't be 100% sure I didn't open Hrimbarg or any other mail box because I wasn't paying attention, but I only have the memory of logging the said character in and fetching the quests there. So, could it be possible, that in confined spaces, where the ceiling is low and auto-zooms your camera, it could have an effect on this zoom function as well?

I'm curious if your testing is being done on a live server or a test server. I get the feeling that the bug is due to input made in the period where the server is under stress and giving slow down messages. If I am correct, the bug may be very difficult, or impossible, to reproduce on a test server.

I've had the non-stop spin bug forever, both in LotRO and WoW. Alt-tab out to desk top and back in always stops it, but never figured out why it's happening.

At least the alt-tab fix works reliably

With the spin problem, as I said earlier...just press the numeric keyboard with 2, 4, 8 or 6 depending on what way you're spinning. It stops it straight away.

Been getting this bug for 9 years now with completely different computers and mice. I remember noticing it for the first time during Mines of Moria. Current setup on my main gaming machine:

    1) What is your operating system? Windows 7 until recently, now Windows 10
    2) Is your mouse wired or wireless? Wired
    3) Are you using any LotRO plugins? Yes
    4) Do you typically play full-screen, fake full-screen, or windowed? Usually windowed
    5) Do you frequently switch away from the LotRO process to work in other windows? Yes
    6) What are the mouse name and drivers as reported from dxdiag.exe? (please do not post a full dxdiag export)

Please, if you often experience the mouse scrolling zoom bug, post here or send in a bug report with the following:
    1) What is your operating system?
    2) Is your mouse wired or wireless?
    3) Are you using any LotRO plugins?
    4) Do you typically play full-screen, fake full-screen, or windowed?
    5) Do you frequently switch away from the LotRO process to work in other windows?
    6) What are the mouse name and drivers as reported from dxdiag.exe? (please do not post a full dxdiag export)
    7) Any other patterns you have observed about your behaviour just before the bug starts occurring.
I can reproduce this when I end up with two copies of the game running. The scrolling works in one window, but not the other. I end up having to restart to get it working.

Noishe, thanks for this tip! I'd tried many things but couldn't get it to stop without tabbing out. I've since tried the arrow buttons on the keypad and it works for me! Nice, not having to tab out and worry about getting back in too late to avoid injury or death :-) I just press all four arrows, left/right or up/down till one works.
