Out-of -Date Splash Screens while loading

I just came back after years off and noticed that the splash screens while loading the game are very out of date. One advertises the Fall activities with an Halloween type theme and the other advertises a double points drive that ended on January 1st. It may be a small thing, but kind of worrisome too. It makes it look like nobody's home.

A couple of weeks ago I swear I saw one written in ancient Greek, detailing what specification of abacus was needed to play the game.

Their entire launcher needs replacing, it's old and VERY buggy.

Go to your game files folder /The Lord of the Rings Online/raw/[en/fr/de depending on what language you use] and delete all the loading screen files to manually force the launcher to download the new ones.
Or use the custom ones people offer up on LOTROInterface - although it likely breaches a clause in the ToS.

On a Mac, the directory is
    lotroLauncher.app/Contents/Resources/lotroclient.app/Contents/Resources/raw/en/logo
    (substitute your language)

It is probably best to use the command line to 'cd' into that directory, then use 'open .' to put it up in a finder window for convenience. If you must navigate entirely with Finder, right-click on the launcher app and use 'Show Package Contents' to work your way down; you will also have to do that to get into 'lotroclient.app' which is the client application.

Why would anyone give a damn about the loading screens? I either skip them or alt-tab while it loads.
The game is what matters, no need to advertise it to me when I'm already there.

You have to care and give a damn, its clear they care nothing about something as simple as a splash screen. Its all part of the game immersion, if you cant keep tabs on something as simple as a splash screen, then there is no care about the rest. Getting into the game and immersing yourself should be there from the get-go and right from log in.
    Bad form indeed.

If a picture on the way into the game threatens your game immersion, then I think the issue is somewhere else. For all I care they can put Trump's picture there.

Hey just be grateful that you have loading screens, since the last update all I get is no picture, just something that looks like a piece of graph paper!

The loading screens are fine on SSG's end. It's your file that needs to be updated. Just clear the old ones and it will load the new ones. But SSG has updated the screens all the way along.

If I have to go into my program files to manually clear the old stuff and get the new, it's NOT fine on their end. What's next? "Hey you guys, please paste these lines of code into these folders if you want to get an update, k thnx."
    It's not that I can't do it, it's that I shouldn't have to.

It's not happening to every player, so it has to be something on your end. If it was a line of code wrong on SSG's end, it wouldn't work for anyone.

I have not looked at them, so used to the fact that in March I for sure still had the 2nd one going strong "Get double points in the store, through January 1st"

It is clear they can not keep them maintained and should get rid of these attempts, reducing number of screens may help with loading times too.

We have been looking into this and have made a change that might help some folks get updated splash screens the next time they launch the game client.

I just get the Mordor expansion screen (I've bought it already) or the quite boring Mordor emblem with the black background now. One of the new update screens might be nicer.

Can you elaborate on what you think is causing the issue? I've not tested this change yet but prior attempts of me trying to fix the issue garnered no results. I tried deleting the loading screens from the folder and the launcher actually re-downloaded the old images again.

We are looking into how the system determines whether a splash screen (image file) is newer. Theoretically it should be looking at the newest file uploaded, but it seems to sometimes pull from last modified rather than most recently uploaded.

While you're at it, could you please also look into taking into account the language setting of the client? It's annoying to have to wait for irrelevant splash screens every time.

Thanks. I assumed the launcher was looking for a list of specific files with the proper size and date and when it didn't find a file at all or one that was not the right size or date it would remove the found file and download the proper one.
