Is this still an issue? I just tried downing some grims in Wildermore (lvl 87) and was quickly wiped out twice. Never had this happen before.
DoT scaling was fixed some time ago. You're a victim of bad mob scaling at levels 85 - 95 (?). I believe what happens was...
- When Helm's Deep was released, Vitality gave a point to Physical and Tactical Mitigation each.
- Because HD gear had loads of vitality, everyone could easily cap mitigations.
- Quick "fix" was that the removed mitigations from Vitality. That made content harder, especially if you still have lvl 85 gear. Tactical attacks became very nasty (e.g. Grims).
- When SSG fiddled with mob damage/morale with U23, that level range became even harder (!)
Also, U23 seems to have introduced a bug with mitigation calculation. When a lvl 85 mob hits you, your effective mitigations should be calculated like you were a lvl 85 char. Instead, they're purely calculated using you charlvl. Meaning if out outlevel content, but still are equipped with old gear, that content becomes even harder.

Thanks for the response, you're probably correct. I'm wearing lvl 85 Hytbold armor. I have maxed my tactical mitigation and resistance virtues (lvl 43 for me), but apparently that's not enough. Perhaps adding some Finesse, even though wasn't really needed until Mordor before. Will try that.
[edit] Still doesn't explain to me why they ignore my bear. I send the bear in first without hurling any damage at the grim, but the grim still targets only me, even before I send in any damage spells . And then it ignore my bear taunt. First mob I found that does that.
LOL so my rotation has been (3 times now) is 1) send in bear, let him hit the grim, 2) grim starts shooting me with frost, 3) I hit taunt on my bear, grim keeps hitting me, 4) I toss a burning embers at the grim, and 5) I'm dead in the middle of my 2nd burning embers windup.
Speaking to the OP I have had problems in the same area Dum Boha, even on my guard. I got to the boss in that area with the two guards and got creamed. I had to have a kin member come in and help me out.
Speaking off the OP, what the other person said about level 90+ needs to be looked at as well. Especially the areas around Stoke and onward. My captain was doing great red line until around there. Then ended up having to switch to yellow and a shield in order not to die. The Mobs around that area need either scaled down or their damage reduced.
I would still say some DoT's are kind of bad in the way that some content is hardly worth doing. Like the Fire Damage in Caverns for example. Makes that instance on duo pretty much a waste of time. Simply not worth it with that much fire damage and the bad rewards. Doesn't even count towards weekly, so why run it on duo at all ??? Either solo or 3-man, but even 3-man is a pain compared to other instances simply due to the fire damage. Doable yes, but not worth it. Time and effort and all that jazz.
