    Midsummer Festival steed question

Cordovan, will these Midsummer Festival steeds be a permanent addition that can be bartered for festival tokens every year, or will they get removed after two years?

There are 4 steeds and 16 warsteed items this festival, so I really hope they won't get removed so we can work towards a complete collection through several years while having fun and not have to grind like crazy if we have more than one character

We don't actually know if they will be removed this time. They are even available for Mithril Coins now too which isn't normal, and there are a huge amount more steeds and warsteed items than usual, and this festival isn't like the others so we can't know how they will handle the steeds this time.
I'm just asking so that we can plan ahead.

Also, grinding a festival will destroy it and make it a horrible experience so my friends and I would rather not grind and then have it turn out we have all time in the world to buy everything and did all that grind for nothing when we could have had fun everyday instead.

Cordovan, could you please try to find out the plan for the steeds and give us a heads up?

I mean if you want the full festival wrapper you get more than enough for all the horses anyway, so depends if you do that on all the characters, I have too many to consider it for. I just wish they had also included Warsteed cosmetics for the horse you get from the wedding storyline too !

But they have lowered price (20 for steed and 10 for warsteed part), when other festivals have 40 for steed and 20 for warsteed part. You can get all of them in 4-5 days.

Many of us have several characters but how can we plan what to spend our tokens on if they won't tell us what they plan to do? All that is needed is just information about their plan so we can plan accordingly I would be quite disappointed if I grinded like crazy 12 hours a day to find out I could have had fun instead

Yes, they lowered the prices while also adding FIFTEEN more steeds/warsteed items than usual, so it's actually a lot more expensive. It's around 264 tokens for all steeds/warsteed items per character, and that combined with all the emotes and pets is a lot for those of us with more than one character.

With information about this we can plan what to get now and what to get later, and the Festival will stay fun for completionists too, so why not share their plans since they have worked so hard to make a fun event Would be a pity if it had to turn into a grind

Also, it would be nice to be able to afford the new pretty outfits too, but if we aren't told if the steeds will stay or not, I won't be able to afford any. Also, I will not buy Festival Steeds for Mithril Coins if I can't get them for tokens even if I play 12 hours a day.

There are events where the steeds never get removed, like the Treasure Hunt, and I think also the Steed for the Summer Festival instance. So they might let these stay too, especially since they seem to be connected to the banners you see here and there in Minas Tirith

Please SSG, just give us a heads up so we can plan accordingly

The Midsummer Festival steeds will not be going away from the vendor, and we are in the process of simply shifting over to a system where mounts are available either for Festival Tokens or Mithril without a staggered release. It will make less maintenance work, and is more in-line with the feedback we've heard over the years. While older festivals won't get these changes right away, we do intend to shift over to this model over time for all of our festivals.

This is a great decision. I hope eventually it applies to older mounts too (deeds, Cord, deeds)

Any chance the currently present only mount and pet will be added for a direct Mithril cost as well?

    This is GREAT to hear.

Will take so much pressure of having to grind my behind off to get everything on all my characters.

This festival is great fun, but there is so much good stuff to get and grinding would just kill it.

Does the team now understand that putting things like steeds behind mithril purchase actually prevents many from completing "Collections", which were a good addition to the game for completionists? It is indeed good news that feedback has been heard after all this time, and that all steeds will eventually rotate back to a form of in game earning, which should in turn get some players back to the business of completing their collections panel. For example, I won't pay 70 mithril coins for old horses, and while I can never obtain those few that I need, I will never bother buying the few store horses I need either, because there is no point if the collection will never be complete.

Except, during Yule, and now Midsummer, the game has added items from Collections into mithril based hobbit gift rolls - which does, exactly the same thing to ruin collections.

I understand that those mithril rolls are money makers, and nothing at all wrong with that idea for those that wish to spend money on it, but please keep items from "Collections" out of it. There are tons of other nice fluff items that you could devise to be used to tempt those rolls, but adding items from the collections, which in turn are not obtained during daily rolls (or even paid rolls for that matter), because of the luck aspect, just stops collecting, dead in it's tracks.
Sometimes, no matter how hard you look, there is no best light.

Can you clarify what this means? I can read it two ways:

    1) That the new year's steeds will be available for both mithril or tokens that first year. All steeds past 2 years old are still mithril only. The difference being that there is no staggered release for mithril sales.

    OR

    2) Going forward all steeds from past and current years will be available for either tokens or mithril, allowing people who missed old steeds to get them again for tokens. The change being that there will no longer be steeds locked behind mithril purchases.

    Hoping for #2 obviously!

Thank you so much for your reply! Your information has made this festival even more awesome now!

This is fantastic news, especially for us completionists And if it saves SSG time as well, it's a win/win!

If the steeds will be available for tokens forever I can just take my time and enjoy the lovely festival and focus on getting my fav steed now and lots of other items, and leave the other steeds for future years! It will be great seeing these changes to the old festivals in the future as well

Will the old steeds come back to be bartered for tokens too, or is this just all new steeds going forward from when the new system is set in place? It would be great to know in advance if possible, so we can plan for the other festivals as well and not have to get festival burnout until the new system gets rolled out for all the other festivals unless it is needed =)

Thanks a million for listening to our feedback!

Hey Cord, is there any update on this? It would be nice to get those older festival mounts but I'm not paying MC for them on one character at a time.

Spring Festival bump. Any update on this Cord?

It would be nice to be able get the older mounts from the festivals for festival coins.

I'm afraid this is another project that a LOT of customers were looking forward to, which has been tossed aside by the Devs. It seems they have more important things to work on...like turning our maps into satellite shots and adding sparkles to our skill tabs.

Yeah, this could just be a 5 minute job. They have the steed on the vendor table already so all they need to do is copy it to a new line and change the barter to festival coins.

It shouldn't be a difficult task but they would prefer to try and force people to buy MC instead.

This should be fun, fluff content not something put behind a paywall.

There has been a lot of bad press lately and sorting something like this would be a huge positive boost for the playerbase.

Thank you Cord for the response here. Do you have any insight into whether MC only steeds will be available for tokens in the future? I really dislike the fact that certain steeds are locked behind MC. It has nothing to do with not wanting to spend $$ on LOTRO, but these old horses are like $10 worth of MC and the warsteed outfits are about the same per piece! There are a lot of players who want these steeds/cosmetics for characters who either didn't get them the first time around or weren't created back when they were available. Many of these same players (myself included) would never spend the MC because the cost value is just not aligned.

It would be nice for them not to shift the three year old steed to Mithril Coins only if they intend to stop using the one new steed / one old steed model
