State of the LM, looking for advice picking LM vs Captain

I have a 56 LM and a 61 Captain. I just cant decide which to main, my red LM feels like he does much less damage than my red captain besides some burst aoe. I feel like for how squishy the LM is he should do quite a bit more damage than the captain. Everywhere I see people saying red captain dps is pretty low. How are both of these at level 130? I dont see much information about the state of the LM at level 130, is it because they are in a rough state? The cooldowns feel excessive.

    Thank you!

I've both classes at level cap, my experience:

Red LM plays pretty well on landscape at cap. Send your bear to collect some mobs, then nuke them with Lightning Storm and / or fire skills. Burning Embers in conjunction with Lightning Strike or Gust of Wind kills of single mobs well enough.

Cappy lacks AoE damage (and damage in general), so landscape is slower. You can get a tough mob down relatively fast when you use buffs & oathies though.

You still won't be invited as an DD with both classes. LM is expected to debuff in yellow, Cappy is expected to tank in yellow or buff in red.

Thanks for the reply. If you had to pick one to play first to cap which one would you choose?

If you intend to do mostly landscape and maybe T1 stuffs you can enjoy both of them but if you wants to do more than that I suggest you to park the LM and focus on Cappy (save your time and ofc. real money!)
Cappy is like an "upgraded heavy armored LM" that can support, dps, use pets, tank and heal much better.
With Cappy you will have no problem at all to play any end game content, on the contrary -> this is the most wanted class for any 3/3, 6/6 and ofc. the raid.
Now that support is not really needed at end game, most of the players see LM's as a leech that hold and slow them down.
Some instance are excluded/very hard for LM's (like filth-well) and many players prefer in advance not to join/take LM's while Cappy's are the best class to take there.
Only one LM can be in raid but Cappy can be even more than 2 so you will have less competition to join for a raid.
Also, Cappy is well updated class while LM's are one of the most dated ones that dev's are constantly ignore any community feedbacks.
    I hope I help you

Thanks for the reply, thst is exactly how it feels playing an LM. What is the point if everything is just a dps race, I think red spec LM should be the king of AOE. Red spec captain damage at least in the 60s is much superior. Looking at top parses it appears red spec captain is decent dps at cap. The only downside is low AOE but that can be worked with legacies. Thanks for your reply again, this is what I was looking for.
