This maintenance is longer than usual due to additional server work being done.

Word on the street is Mr. Bingo Boffins is getting a race change and will now be an elf.

I really should check the log in screen or the forums for these updates.
I feel so lost not being able to wake with everyone.

Middle-earth sure has some impressive surgeons.

For real? Until 2 PM. I don't mind even if i was in the hope to play this morning. Healthy servers = smoother game play. It would be nice to know if it is that you are installing Update 30 or just an unusually huge OS update, just cause i am happy about some of the changes that it will bring.

We're actually updating our server OSes, which is part of the reason this is taking longer.

We'll announce when U30 goes out, you'll definitely know

Thanks for the information. Being new you may not know how incredibly unusual it is for anyone to actually say what downtime is really for even when there is no conceivable business reason to keep quiet about it. It is just the Daybreak culture to say nothing unless absolutely compelled and sometimes not even then. Good to see that is changing.

Poor Bingo. Being a transracial elf is not going to be easy for him. Even if they do a perfect job on the ears it is hard for any of the lesser races to learn quite the right mix of being self-evidently superior combined with a subtle showing of sorrow and empathy for the inferiority of others and a genuine appreciation of the enormous effort they have to put in to be merely sub-elven and not even worse.

For what it's worth, "not being specific about maintenance" is a pretty common thing for games in general, not by any means a "Daybreak culture" thing. It's not generally because they're trying to hide anything, but because it's usually for a bunch of mundane reasons that aren't remotely interesting for players, so the community managers aren't made aware of details, and so they're not usually communicated.

We're not trying to hide what's going on, it's just that most of it is pretty generic and quite boring, so not usually worth making any detailed announcement.

To be honest, there are plenty of players interested in technical issues. We've been waiting for quite a while for some updates on server performance.
No point on having new content if the servers can't handle it.

    Thumbs up

An OS update should be good news, we'll hope you aren't upgrading to NT4... But because the OS version isn't getting mentioned we might think we are getting $6k datacentre Windows Server 2019s and not the $1k standard variety for minimal virtualisation. Along with a plan to make best use of the upgrade. If it's too boring to mention we'll assume it's been the cheapest option available.

I'd take the raw techy spiel and have the knowledgeable players translate for the community rather than the lost in translation CMs route. Hiding the main issue with aspersions made at players is literally only one week old if you want to talk about concealment.

In my opinion it can't get any less interesting than seeing the same old boring maintenance message, why not just release this information and let the players decide if its something they would be interested in.

I think you are mixing the terms updating and upgrading -- I doubt they are upgrading the server OSes to a new version, at least not in a casual timeframe like this. That usually involves much more cursing and invoking of dark powers.

I suppose I'm just using what tools I have to determine the long term prognosis. Holding up a mirror and the occasional poke here and there is all I got. When the general perception among players is at odds with how things really stand then you'd hope they'd be put straight. You know paying customers and such. I guess any answer will disappoint and why the default message is usually no message or a nothing to see here one but increasingly one intended to mislead and disseminated through dependent cohorts. If we already have the best virtualisation server OS, oh dear for performance and pops. If it isn't, some potential at least.

Hoped for a reaction different to the usual deer/rabbit caught in the headlights.

Thank you Ranina I realize it is a little more information an not done in another games. Yet it would be nice to tell something. That is all the Players have wanted to know. I did find Discord :-) to wake with others.
