Good try again Laguna, but b_bly got the hill I was looking for
"The Beacon-wardens were the only inhabitants of the Wood, save wild beasts; they housed in lodges in the trees near the summit, but they did not stay long, unless held there by foul weather, and they came and went in turns of duty. For the most part they were glad to return home. Not because of the peril of the wild beasts, nor did any evil shadow out of dark days lie upon the Wood; but beneath the sounds of the winds, the cries of birds and beasts, or at times the noise of horsemen riding in haste upon the Road, there lay a silence, and a man would find himself speaking to his comrades in a whisper, as if he expected to hear the echo of a great voice that called from far away and long ago."
From Unfinished Tales, so I was worried it was too obscure. Now my fears have been laid to rest, you have the Jacket ;p
I've read the chapter of Unfinished Tales you cited, but I'm not sure I see the connection to the original riddle, or the hint.
Where does it say that hill became forever silent after a king climbed it? That passage talks about multiple sounds being heard, and people conversing in whispers.
And where does it say Elessar visited?
I must be missing something...

Ah, the chapter from Unfinished tales isn't the full story. After the War of the Last Alliance, Isildur laid Elendil's Tomb there and hallowed the hill, making it silent. The steward I referred to was Cirion, who took his oath with Eorl on that hill. Later Elessar, as king, renews the oath on the same hill.
"...but beneath the sounds of the winds, the cries of birds and beasts, or at times the noise of horsemen riding in haste upon the Road, there lay a silence, and a man would find himself speaking to his comrades in a whisper, as if he expected to hear the echo of a great voice that called from far away and long ago."
The passage says the hill was unnaturally silent, apart from the wind and sounds of animals.
What is when Fëanor asked for a lock of Galadriel’s hair three times and was denied each time?
Eons later, Gimli asked the Lady for one hair. She surprised everyone by giving him three.
Above all shadows rides the Sun and Stars for ever dwell:
I will not say the Day is done, nor bid the Stars farewell.

Correct!
Galadriel tells the foul dorf "none have ever made to me a request so bold," suggesting that she (understandably) found his request even creepier than her kinsman's.

Nice clue, although it's a bit unclear what you're looking for.
What is Amon Anwar?
(in fact this was the answer to another clue a page or two back...Unfinished Tales is a very popular source here...)
Correct!
Well, I guess that was pretty lame. I should have read more of the thread first to be sure I wasn’t repeating something from earlier, especially that recent.
