Take two then...
What is the golden tree Laurelin?
Rather than leave this pending I will accept this answer although I was hoping for BOTH trees, Laurelin and Telperion, or simply the Two Trees of Valinor. But it does work for either one individually, as well.
Here's a breakdown of the Hailku:
The Two Trees of Valinor, also known as the Trees of the Valar or simply the Two Trees, were Laurelin (the Gold Tree) and Telperion (the Silver Tree),
which brought light into the Land of the Valar in ancient times. ( star-kissed leaves of Spring )
They were destroyed by Melkor and the primal spider Ungoliant, (betrayals and fallen souls)
but their last flower and fruit were made by the Valar into the Sun and the Moon. (brightness never dimmed)
P.S. I think you selected based on the server names I play on rather than a couple of character names I was alluding to- Sunberry and Moonberry specifically.
Here' s the jacket![]()

Was a lovely haiku, Reaboj! I enjoyed just reading it and not even trying to solve. I like that it had just enough to string together the answer, and not be overt.
The "leaves of Spring" made me think of the mellyrn, described by Legolas to cover the ground in Spring and grow new leaves (fitting the "never dimmed" motif). Of course, that lead to their "spiritual ancestor" - Laurelin. A bit of a reach, but it fit the poem nicely.
Well, I shall try to come up with another soon, and if sounds half as good as yours I'll be pleased![]()
There once was a river so heady
It quickly drownded the unready
A boat with two hobs
Some pulls and shoves
Poor Frodo was left unhappy
OK...next up:
You'll find us in a tale
About a lost Dragon hoard.
And also in one
About the Ring of a Lord.
And as sure as Athelas
Will cure most of your ills,
You'll find us in one
About three Silmarils.
We are not Orcs
We are not Men
We are not Dwarves
Nor truly Elven
We've traveled far
We've paid our way
We've worked very hard
To save the day
And in the end
Our tasks complete
We can surely vow
We've been discreet
Time for a hint:
This is referring to two males.
Another hint? Really...?
OK.
One of us must have some kind of "manufactured" body.
Looks like no one is interested in this particular riddle.
Maybe I should just call it failed and open it up for someone else to start a new one?
Bo
I was going to take a wild and pretty vague swing of, "What are swords?" but as I was about to post you put in that clue about the subjects being male so I decided that couldn't be it. I hope someone figures this one out 'cause it's had me thinking quite a bit but nothing I come up with exactly fits all of the poem's elements.
Well, I suppose you could always say "flame resistant sunglasses" if you prefer that to "shoes"
OK then...another hint. (or maybe a couple)
I put the word manufactured in quotes because it may not be an exact description.
The particular male in question was not "born" in any understandable sense...he did not grow from an embryo as far as we know. He was not unique, but others of his kind were not mentioned in all three tales.
The other male was born but was not the result of a common union. He also was not unique and is also the only other character noted in all three tales.
Arghhh! This is killing me that I can't answer. This was one of the few by Bo that I actually got before any clues!![]()

Grats Sam!
I think those are the only 2 characters mentioned in all 3 of Tolkien's Masterworks, The Hobbit, LOTR, and The Silmarillion.
The case can be made that Sauron is mentioned in all three except the text of The Hobbit never mentions him as Sauron, only as the Necromancer and at the time he was not identified as Sauron.
Enjoy the Jacket once again!
Looks like Samwise is on a break or something. He hasn't posted anything since he posted the correct Tolkien Question.
Hey Sam...where are you hiding?
Ah! From beneath piles of poems and scraps of stories I find myself summoned to the great Jeopardy game! (Apologies, folks)
I am a peregrinator,
Though Peregrin’s not my name.
I am a permanent wanderer
Returned from whence I came
Look to me in the struggle
Of all my folk the best
At the turning of this great battle
My arrival was from the west.
(Double Jeopardy of sorts: answer should be a character and an event)
Above all shadows rides the Sun and Stars for ever dwell:
I will not say the Day is done, nor bid the Stars farewell.
Who is Gandalf as he returns with Erkenbrand at the pivotal moment of the Battle of Helm’s Deep?
“Upon the east too sheer and stony was the valley’s side; upon the left, from the west, their final doom approached.”
In contrast to the line in the movie:
"Look to my coming, at first light, on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the East." And he returns with Eomer, not Erkenbrand.
