The game was gonna shut down before going F2P. It really will be a shame if such a great game got shut down because not enough people are exposed to the game.

I haven't seen anything saying the game was going to shut down. However there was quite a few kinships that expressed concern about many of their members leaving and with how slow the development got there for awhile I think it was certainly in the back of many peoples minds. Not to mention how slow customer service got. Generally when a company tells you it'll be a few weeks before we get back to you that means they don't care and a company that depends on happy customers for a living that doesn't care is generally a company that know's its sunk anyway.

That's not confirmation that the game was in trouble, but it is certainly some familiar symptoms that I think would reasonably lead a person to consider the possibility.

Not to mention the claims that F2P wasn't even being considered then out of no where here it is ready to go.

LotRO may have not been in trouble but it was certainly acting nervous for some reason.

The real question is what in the world makes you believe LOTRO was ever #2 MMO behind WoW? LOTRO has-is no where near #2 MMO. Being very positive about LOTRO's "success", and wanting to share what you think with others is not a bad thing, but you really hurt your cause when you go way over the line of believability with comments like that.

My guess is when it was stated that LOTRO was the #2 North American MMO behind WoW...but that's just a guess.

This game was incredibly good right up to the day before F2P and the Turbine Store.

It's incredibly good now. If I didn't think it was, I'd not be enthusiastically telling friends about it ... in fact, I'd not even be playing it.
