Another storyline that I really love is a young thane in East Rohan that wants to fight like his father did, but is constantly refrained by his mother. When he threatens to throw one of his guards in the stockade for being over protective the guard chuckles as he makes a comment that he is just like his father.

Yes, it's a good one. Replayed it with my Hunter no too long ago and my Champion is closing in to play it once again. A bright young man for sure!

One of my more recent finds I really liked was in Cliving where I got to play 'Detective' and help solve a crime. Really appealed to my inner Sherlock Holmes.

They served Sauron, and had no duty to Aragorn's agents. That useful information came to the Grey Company as a result of the misadventure along the Forsaken Road is a testament to the utility of Candaith's decision.

I think it was more honourable to lie and die in that situation than to flee in truth and risk his chief dying later on for want of an Army of the Dead.

But one of the reasons I love writing for LOTRO so much is that it can give rise to discussions like this. We don't always go for the safest story-choice, and I think the game is more interesting for it.

Even though we poke fun at the feckless Grey Company (ignoring that of course we know MUCH more than they do about the course of events they aren't directly involved in) I think that Volume of the Epic remains my favorite because it brings out the many, many allies that fought against the encroachment of Sauron.

Outmatched, underinformed, and sometimes reckless, they struggle to find their way. Knowing no one will probably know if they fall except their immediate companions.

Candaith made a brash decision. Then, he stood by the predictable (to anyone else) outcome of that decision.

That is good storytelling.

Yes, this was a traumatic event for me also. I'd been using his second-best bows for ages... I seem to recall zerging with other L15 baby hunters in pre-launch Brandywine to get 'em after we'd exhausted the possibilities of Thornley's bow. About the Oath-breakers, though... did they *really* serve Sauron? I don't remember that bit. I know they had been expected to serve the King and defaulted on that commitment, but I don't remember anything about serving Sauron.

I never did get on board with the whole fake Ring of Barahir sequence: it always seemed to me that most people wouldn't even know what it was supposed to be, and those that did would have some way of telling whether it *was* what it was supposed to be. And so it turned out. Makes a nice memento for the survivors or trophy for their conquerors, though. Where's mine!!?!!1!!!!??4???

A testament to the author to bring substance into a story. I agree and I had a problem with him lying... since I never make mistakes. He goes from being close to demi-god to mere mortal. Such is the fall of man...

No they didn't. In LOTRO the dead are made to believe that Sauron could redeem them, but as far as I know this isn't lore-based.


But to the others: don't encourage him! he killed off the only thing that kept me interested in the grey company
