OK, this one is what I've seen a few times in the forums. What is "PWN" ? And all its variants? I've seen it turned into a verb and adjective.
Thanks for this list!

PWN started out life as "OWN" as in "I own you" or "I owned you" meaning that I obtained a clear victory over you. It became PWN due to the fact that P is very close to O on the keyboard. It just caught on from there. It's pronounced pown (rhymes with grown).
At least that's my understanding of what it is and where it came from.
Thanks, John Q.

To clarify an earlier post:
AoE is an effect that targets a mob, and affects the area around the mob. An example would be the LM's earth spell--it damages the mob targeted, and all the mobs within a certain radius of it.
PBAoE, or a point blank (i've also heard player based) aoe targets the area around the caster, rather than the area around the targeted mob. These are more uncommon in LoTRO than other MMOs, but examples include the LMs undead stun spell, and many of the champions AoE effects. (Indeed, for the champ, all of his AoEs are of the PB type, so for him the difference is negligible, but for the hunter all are AoE, while the LM has general AoE as well as PBAoE specific skills)
Essentially, PBAoE is a subset of AoE where the area is centered on the caster rather than another target.
If this has been posted, im sorry, I did not want to read 6 pages of posts....
but a little history on the word MOB, actually dates back to the early RPG games of the 80's that were text based, and is actually short for MOBILE, it was a word used in programmin to catagorize anything in a game that moved or was "mobile" to seperate from all objects that are NOT mobile like tables and such. Anyways, over time it became to be said to anyhting that moves, typically enimies, is called a MOB, or MOBILE.

I think QQ is the emoticon for "cry", so in context it would mean "cry more", usually in response to a whining post.

Con, I'm pretty sure, is actually is derived from /consider.
In EQ you used to click on a mob (or target it and type /con) to "consider" whether you should attack or not. You would get a message back in your chat box along the lines of: mobname "considers you an ally" or "scowls at you threateningly" or "regards you indifferently". This would tell you how likely it was that the mob would attack you and how close you could be before it would.
The message would also use (the now familiar) color coding to indicate the mob's level relative to you along with wording such as "looks pretty tough but you might win" (dark blue) or "what do you want your tombstone to say" (red).
One I have seen used occasionally is PAT which I believe is short for Patrol. This is Mob that has a paticular travel pattern.

Agreed, I was surprised to see Lore-Master in the healer section while the Captain was totally ignored. The Lore-Master is not a healer but the Captain is. I think Lore-Master only get 1 healing skill with a long recharge, mostly for the pet, I would not call Lore-Master a healer because of it.

LMs have a targeted heal on a 30 second timer. Traited, this goes down to a 20 second timer. LMs also have a heal (cure) wounds skill. This skill is single target and out of combat. With a trait slotted, it becomes in combat and AoE. They also have a heal (cure) disease skill. This skill works in combat. I believe that, untraited, it is single target and that the same trait for the wound cure makes it AoE as well. The trait affecting the wound and disease cures also removes, if I am not mistaken, the recast timers (i.e., traited, you can recast either right away. I do not recall that being the case without the trait, but it has been a while). Finally, LMs can restore (i.e., heal) power, and LMs can rez out of combat, and because their rez is dependent on a consumable (Shire Sweet-Leaf), there is no recast timer.
So it is true that Captains deserve to be included as healers. But to suggest that LMs are not is a bit short-sighted. Captain heals are primarily based on death responses (i.e., a mob has to die for their primary heal to become available). LMs can heal morale as long as they have power and the recast timer is up, meaning they can heal several times during along fight against a Elite Master mob while a Captain has to wait for something to die. To my knowledge, Captains cannot do anything with Disease or Wounds. Removing (healing) a nasty wound or disease DoT can save a player even if you cannot restore his morale right away. Captains cannot restore (heal) power while LMs can. And while Captains can rez in combat, they only have a couple of rezzes, and they are on long recast timers. LMs can rez (out of combat) as long as they have Sweet-Leaf in their inventory to use.
LMs, like Captains, are no Minstrels, but LMs, like Captains, can be effective secondary healers.

How did this thread get on the topic of healers...?
Anyway... Not to take anything away from LM's, I'd say captains are next after minstrels in healing abilities. Their combat defeat group heal rocks, and with Now for Wrath traited, also heals power across the group. Words of Courage is a single heal over time, and does not rely on combat defeat, and with Fear No Darkness traited, heals 325 morale initially and 61 morale ever 3 seconds for 12 seconds, for a total of 569 morale. The cooldown on this is only 3 seconds, so you can heal almost every member of the group before the timer expires on the first person. Also, don't underestimate the healing mark. When a target is marked with this, you get a small heal every time you hit the target. This is a surprisingly powerful ability. (If you group with a captain, if he's using the Revealing Mark, learn to find the mob with the red Up arrow on it, and hit that guy for healing.)
Again, not to take anything away from LM's, I would just consider them more of a debuffer than a healer, and essential for restoring power to other players. LM's are the antithesis of a captain, which is why they make such a powerful duo.

Well, there may be others who already gave better replies. Thought I just chip in a little.
Hunters' trap (from skill, not "hand-wrought traps") acts like crowd-control -- as soon as you hit the mob, it will break from the trap. The difference is if the mob has ranged attack ability, it will continue to attack you from afar. However, if you break the line-of-sight, you won't take damage from it.
One type of trap (hand-wrought trap) can survive attack, though only available to high level players... called "inescapable trap".
Hunters also have a legendary trait skill that deal AoE attack and trapping mobs. It is a probability hit/trap, so it comes in handy when there is no crowd-control member in your fellowship.
Loremasters have a few AoE crowd-control skills too, though I rarely seen them used. One of them traps mobs to the ground (with branches from the ground).
So maybe there should be a new term? AoECC?
More than once, a different class helped saved the fellowship, and it's not minstrel or captain or LM. It is the Guardian. For this to be effective, the guardian need to be 2 or 3 levels higher than the rest of the group, with good armor. Those who are not used to the capability of a tank easily overlooked this, even after grouping with them a few times.
Guardians draw attention away from other players. There are 2 advantages for this move. 1) other classes, especially hunters, minstrels, lore-masters, need time to use their skills. They are more effective without being attacked upon.
2) mobs no longer attack the other players, thereby ensuring their survival. This is the part that is often overlooked. There was once I played as a guardian, joining a group who was looking for a minstrel. By the end of the quest, nobody died, quest done successfully. It was level 44, and the quest was in Fornost. The level advantage was not much superior. Of course the rest of the group was competent. My point is that guardians have a little "side-effect" of saving lives... if not direct healing.
There's one really big and quite important mistake here: Elite mobs and the color have nothing to do with each other. The color indicates how the level of the mob compares to your own level. The colors go, from lowest to highest: Gray, Green, Cyan, Blue, White (same level as you), Yellow, Orange, Red, Purple. You will not be able to hit any purple mobs, so don't even try.
Also, why just define Elite? Mention ALL of the ranks (I guess you would call it rank): (note that I figured these out just from common sense. yeah, i suppose you could call it guessing)
Swarm-Green portrait border, can take on many of the same level at once
Normal-blue border, can take on 2 or 3 of the same level at once
Signature or Sig-Red border, can take only 1 of the same level (if any other normal mobs come, you may be in trouble)
Elite-red with eye, usually takes 2 or 3 players to take down one of the same level (unless you're a lore-master and it's in the high levels)
Elite Master or EM-eye and 4 spikes, takes 5 or 6 players to take down one of the same level.
Nemesis-eye and 6 spikes, takes a 12-man raid to take it down.
Arch-nemesis-4 spikes with a big flaming eye, a full 24 man raid.
Bephwyn - 60 Loremaster
Ring Guard of Rivendell
Elendilmir *jingle* *jangle*
Elites can be taken down solo if you play your cards right.
EVEN if you're a hunter (and a terribly specced one at that)!
(Yes I'm flaunting my achievements even though they were mostly luck)
Turn - Guardian
Balandolen - Lore-master
Turnholm - Minstrel
Crowd control encompases a number of different actual skills. Those skills can be single target or AoE. So it is genearally more common to refer to the skills in general as Crowd Control, then refer to the type of targeting when referring to the type of CC it is (e.g., you would typically say AoE Mez rather than referring to it more generically as an AoECC).
A skill that prevents movement (from place to place, not necessarily turning in place) without shutting down the target entirely (the way a mez does) is called a Root. Hunter Traps are a form of Root effect. The LM skills Herb Lore and Cracked Earth are also Roots (though Cracked Earth's root effect is delayed). Since they (Herb Lore and Craced Earth) both affect multiple targets, they would be AoE roots.
