Bullroarer Update 19.3 - Preview and Release Notes

    Bullroarer Update 19.3 Release Notes
Welcome to the Update 19.3 Release Notes for Bullroarer, released on Friday, January 20th. These notes will change over time.
We have updated Bullroarer with a preview of Update 19.3.
Please note that the Beta EULA and ToS have not yet been updated, and will still incorrectly display the old EULA and ToS.

    News and Notes:
    Adjustable interior housing hooks:
You can now adjust the precise location of interior housing decorations once they are placed in a hook. The decoration hook UI now includes 4 scroll bars that allow decorations to be rotated as before, but also to be moved east/west, north/south, and up/down. Exterior housing decorations continue to only allow rotation.
    • Interior housing decorations be moved +/- 10 meters along the x, y, or z axis once they are placed.
    • Clicking the decoration icon to the left of each rotation and translation scrollbar will rotate or move the decoration back to the default position in that axis.
    • Large Wall housing decorations can now be rotated around their vertical axis.
    • In decoration mode, hook outlines are now color coded by type.

    Chat channel additions and changes:
    • Four additional user defined chat channels have been added, so every player has access to 8 user defined chat channels.
    • There are now 3 global channels: /world, /trade, and /lff. Trade and Looking-for-Fellowship are now global channels accessible via /trade and /lff. Please restrict trading/selling to the /trade channel and grouping requests to the /lff channel.
    • The advice regional chat channel has been removed.
    • The eight user chat channels have been added to the Output Channels context menu of the bubble icon on the chat input field

Other new items and bug fixes:
    • Premium houses can be purchased using Premium Housing Writs. These writs are given when a player gives up their premium house, or when a character with a premium house transfers to another server. You can also purchase these housing writs on the LOTRO store.
    • The "/say" bug has been fixed. In addition, the range of /say has been increased from 15 meters to 25. Use /shout to double that range.
    • Kin leaders who "sell" their premium house will now properly receive premium housing writs.
    • Flora - Phials of Extract now bind to account instead of character
    • The North Ithilien Wilds frame should now display on your selected target portrait and fellowship member's portrait (when they have selected the flora frame).
    • Players can no longer barter gear containing slotted essences. If a barter exchange would take a piece of gear with slotted essences, an error will be received instead.
    • When your avatar is hit when holding a shield, your weapon should now remain in your hand.
    • The maximum possible coin capacity for any player is 9999 gold, 999 silver, 99 copper. To prevent players from inadvertently losing coin exceeding this maximum:
      • Players can no longer detach coin from emails if the transaction exceeds the maximum coin capacity.
      • Players can no longer sell an item to a vendor if the transaction exceeds the maximum coin capacity. When using Sell All, any item whose value exceeds the maximum coin capacity will not be sold.
      • Players can no longer trade coin if the transaction exceeds the maximum coin capacity on the recipient.
      • When a player fails to receive coin as a mob reward or quest reward, the error message "Transaction exceeds maximum coin capacity." is displayed, but the extra coinage is lost.

Say what?! This isn't even supposed to be technically possible, or at least that's what I was told quite emphatically by Turbine many years ago when I suggested it. This is fantastic, albeit a bit abbreviated. Exterior hooks? I'd very much like the ability to pull the back end of my flower box out of the hill it's sitting next to (2 Wending Way, Shire Homesteads). And get my Farming Garden out of the ground at 4 Wending Way. Just a little adjustment please. (Edit: added specific examples) I've submitted bugs for these way in the past to correct them, but nothing. If we aren't getting exterior adjustments, should I /bug them again?

    .
I believe on the thursday livestream Cordovan said that they weren't able to get exterior hooks working, but they did try. I think some probably went too far over the border of the property, and they didn't have a good way to monitor/prevent that without some bigger overhaul. I'd like to see it too, but this is better than nothing.

Oh, I agree. Likely way better than what we have now (hopefully I can check it out soon).

I'm sure exterior hooks would need some sort of limit check. I know how I'd try approach it, if possible. The game does recognize a property's "boundary" since it de/activates certain functions such as decoration mode, displaying address/homeowner, etc. based on character location. Perhaps they don't have access to that check without changing things, too many things, on the back-end? (rhetorical question)

Anyway, I wouldn't need more than nudge distances, but if SSG fixes the troublesome locations than that wouldn't be necessary at all. They (Turbine) haven't bothered in the past. Perhaps the current team will be more willing to address these issues.

There has to be some kind of a cap. Computers run using fixed width binary encodings. Add to that this is managed by a SQL database engine and its corresponding management system. Making gold account bound will require changing database schema. Besides, you already have the coin bag account bound item that stacks.

So far, having played with the hook changes, they are absolutely fantastic. Going forward, if we get more premium/normal houses, I really want to see a massive abundance of hooks, so that we can use a bunch of smaller items for details without having to worry about leaving too much empty space.

Suggestion: If possible, it would be nice if hooks that have something in them could gain a visual effect (icon or swirl) above them/at their base (ground, roof, wall) (like when activating some stances, but persistent). It would only be visible while decorating, but always while decorating. Would really help to keep track of which hooks are in use and which aren't, so that you don't have to look through them all.

If it is mainly not done because of over-reaching the property lines, they could potentially just make the max nudge distance like 3-5m instead of the 10m for interior. May do enough to make it a non-issue.

Thanks a lot for the hook changes. That brings much more variety to decorating. I like the different coloring of the hooks, too.

And thanks to making the Phials of Extract bind to account instead of character.

Tybur said you can move them along the x y and z direction. I'm pretty sure some of my neighbours would consider it immersion breaking if my windmill starts flowing 5m above the ground.

Disable vertical movement for exterior? Well what if the ground isn't even, so by moving it horizontally it starts to float? I think there's just too many problems you'd run into by players (ab)using the system to make something look 'funny'. Of course you'll run into the same problems inside, but at least your neighbour doesn't have to look at it, so it's pretty much your own playground.

    .
Fair point. If they ever do any personal dimension-like housing instances though (as opposed to neighborhoods), and if it's still hook-based, then I would hope that they could enable exterior hook nudging for that housing to give us freedom, since it would only affect us.

Thanks so much for this! I hope people will actually use these channels instead of cluttering up world chat with columns of trading posts.

The additional chat channels are great, but I would really like to also see more chat tabs if possible. 5 is pretty rough. Generally, I want Everything/Normal, Kinship/Fellowship, Combat, IMs... so as is, that leaves 1 tab for any other stuff (and I prefer 1 for kin and 1 for fellow, but often consolidate to get the spare tab already). Would be great if that could be raised to ~8-10, but I don't know what kind of load that would put on the server. (I would recommend a change to make it so the label for each tab fits the name a bit better, as opposed to having so much space if the name is short, to make more tabs visible without having to side-scroll and/or expand the chat window.

I think the new user channels are cool but the 2 new globals will just become imo more of an issue. People when not buying or selling will just turn it off (trade) which will cause people to still flood world. Same with Lff request, people want to hit as many people as they can, so now they will be spamming 3 channels with ads instead of 1. Just my opinion

This could be a problem for some players on Belegaer and Laurelin because these 2 channels must be "in character". World does not. I have the feeling, on Belegaer only a few players search groups in character.

I agree that it will likely be an issue. Ideally, they could once again improve the IF so that it has the Custom Group functionality like WoW (which is basically an expanded/streamlined Open Fellowships, but consolidated). And then an Auction Hall revamp like GW2 has; I know some people don't love that AH system, but I think it helps to regulate the value of stuff in the economy, makes it easy to buy and sell stuff, and just generally makes using the AH less of a hassle (if they went with remote posting & buying, local pickup, no duration limit, no posting limits).

If people insist in ignoring the way chatchannels are meant to be used, ssg should just mute them. i wouldnt mind more actively overlooking of chats by gms :P
But i totally agree. As long as people just get pleased to use the channels accordingly and there is no punishment for not doing so, they will spam every channel or specifically that with the biggest number of players. imo, there should be no tradechat at all as there is an auction house. the only thing i see viable in /trade is actually 'looking for crafters'.

imo those rules should be reworked as no one cared about them the last years. at least, I didnt see anyone care about IC-chat restrictions in any chat channels on Belegaer. Or enforced. Like the naming rules again, maybe? I dont like rules that exist for the sake of it but get ignored by everyone. Make them real rules and enforce them or delete them.

I love how we are getting an update for movable housing hooks instead of fixing any of the many class bugs that haven't been even so much as addressed(half of burglar debuffs, the helegrod hunter set, being spotted in hips on warg or burglar, guardians radiate, etc.).

Just made test of ./Say FIX on Bullroarer! Seems it works well in usual situation.
Surely need to be tested more... but the first try sounds good.

We did not expect for a better range but if it's the way to fix the ./say bug, so the new range is almost same as music one. That's not so bad, except maybe for RPyers whose not like music events.

Thank you very much to Standing Stone to have fix this inconspicuous bug.

This fix is a grand thing for daily social ingame communication and any big public event to lead.

This makes a lot sense. So much that there's probably a good reason they don't do this. Botting for example.

Agreed. Also, speaking of visual effects - when picking flowers in North Ithilien I tend to toggle floaty names on so I can see where all the flowers are. It would be nice if we had a little visual effect for those too. I kinda feel like I'm cheating when I use floaty names but they're really hard to see with all the other flora around them - especially when you don't know what you're looking for.

    -OR-

How about we add a new "Track Flowers" tracker like the Wood and Mine trackers we've already got. You could take this a step forward and implement it all around Middle-Earth with a new "Flower Collecting" hobby. You could treat it like fishing and make unique housing items and rewards for completing sets. Any second this?
