Forced emotes - worse than ever

Greetings all!

I am from earlier not happy with the forced emotes cause I spend most of my time 'abusing' the music system to play music with the band 'The Chosen Few' on [En-RP] Laurelin. Not fun when you're doing a concert, got a lovely audience and some sod comes in and spams the room with forced emotes.

Well, up until now those forced emotes did not work on people already doing an emote, like playing an instrument. Now it does. :( Had a little rehersal last night with the band, and some ramdom fellow did one of those emotes, and the entire band just 'kneeled' in the middle of a tune. &&&....

There is also another thing thats changed, and that is the idle emote on chars not doing anything.
This also takes affect while playing a tune for a couple of minutes. Kind of strange seeing a person in the middle of a heavy lute-solo, putting down the instrument to scratch his arm, before continuing the visual part of the playing.

These things need to be fixed, and fixed fast.

We in The Chosen Few are putting up a big concert called 'Archet Aid' at the 3rd of November, and one 'troll' can in this way totally ruin the event for the majority of people attending it.

Anyone else got the problem?

I was never one to complain about forced emotes and even thought some were being a little whiny about it. I have changed my mind. As of late, I have been getting spammed with the stupid emote that makes you pass out on the ground. It has got to the point of being ridiculous. Can we please have a setting where we don't have to be a victim to these constant forced emotes? I know that there will be a small group whose life will no longer have meaning if they can't constantly run around spamming forced emotes.... but this is just silly.

That emote is the 'black glove' emote obtainable from the harvest festival that have just passed, and it is another 'gem' the devs have added to the game. You need to purchase 300 items of the 'emote-item', then slap someone 300 times (like a deed) to get the /<slap with glove> emote as a skill....

That is where the emoters seems to not understand. They think that just because they can only throw one out every 5 minutes its not something the happens often, but as an emotee you can get emoted over and over in a vey short period of time. I did not care about them that much either, until I got one of the fall down ones 3 times in less than 30 seconds, as I ran through town to turn in a quest.

Sorry that happened to you guys. It is really frustrating when group activities are interrupted.

One thing I might suggest is that you create a separate thread about the idle character animation during music play, because that may not be something that the devs know about yet, if it is new with this update. Forced emote threads degenerate into arguments very quickly, and this animation issue will get buried and not noticed by the right people. Its going to be splendid, and it is open for all servers too (all you need is a fresh-out-of-introduction fellow to attend :) ).

I didn't mind forced emotes so far. Of course it was annoying if someone started such an emote while I was dancing on the Friday concert perfectly in sync with all the other dancers. The most important thing was that the band was safe from these effects.

If it's true that now not even players in musicmode are safe then I see the end of our beloved concerts on Friday evening. We already had our share of idiots trying to cause trouble but so far you could put them on /ignore. This will not help against forced emotes. :(

another excellent example of why forced emotes should not be part of Lotro. Sorry this happened to you, good luck with the concert on the 3rd. If some fool does disrupt the concert please post about it here (within the forum rules) so we can have another example to present to turbine why forced emotes should have a player option to opt out.

Wow, that really is even worse than before. Personally, I'd imagine that the idle animation issue is a separate one (or is at least unintentional but linked to the same issue).

I really do hope this gets fixed, along with FEs in general, sooner rather than later. Best wishes on the concert.

I wish we had a band on my server.

It would be cool if they would accommodate bands with a nice stage (forced emote free) and maybe some vendors that sell exclusive items that the band chooses. The band would of course keep the gold spent on the vendors, and the vendors would only be available while turned on by the band.

Some of the items would be food, drink, acceleration tomes, and non forced emotes.

They should be made to be purely cosmetic. Like if I am just standing there doing nothing (not currently performing an emote etc,) then it "appears" that I fall down but the moment I move or something then I am instantly running. It should not interrupt anything I am doing but if it just looks like I fell down then, ha ha, good one.

Things just got worse, not better. It's being reported as a bug, hopefully they'll fix it.

Thing is that is the issue, or part of it. It's cosmetic more or less anyway, but it is an attack, a violent act committed on your character. You may find it amusing, I don't. When people go out of their way to attack you, it stops being a prank. When you get hit by a dozen in just a few minutes it is not funny, it amounts to a gang beat down of your character.

The real clincher is there is nothing you can do but tolerate it.

Some of the LMB tried this out and what happens is this:

A forced emote makes your character perform it's animation cycle while the music keeps playing and you remain in music mode. We tried Command Respect and Irresistible Melody as standard FE's and they make you kneel/dance while the music keeps playing.

A festival item (sorry, I forgot it's name) is able to make you lie down while the music keeps playing. You have to be very careful after that and only tap a cursor key once to make your character stand up but not move because that would break it out of music mode as usual.

Well, of course this is worse than before because it breaks immersion even more than before.

I know you Grym, Im on Laurelin too, and I loathe forced emotes, no one should be able to force you to do anything.

Yes. We know that the community team has brought all our ideas to the devs and I was told that it will not be fixed with RoR. I'm ok with that, because other things are more important of course.

But now RoR is released and we should bring this matter and our solution on the table again.

Nice post, and it's great that you enjoy using them in a fun way with others who willingly choose to participate. That is, I believe, what Turbine originally intended when they introduced these.

There is a wide array of feelings about these emotes and how/why/to what degree one likes or dislikes them. We have presented suggestions to Turbine that should satisfy a large variety of players along that spectrum, and the more support we get for those suggestions, the better. I hope that Turbine can implement a solution that allows well-meaning players who do not wish to disrupt others, like yourself, to play the way you wish to, and allows those of us who would rather not engage in that part of the game (or who wish to avoid it at certain times) to play the way we wish to.

In order to forestall discussions about just *which* activities or places should be immune to the effects of forced emotes, I would point out that the logical way to handle that is to permit the decision to be made by each individual player. In threads on this topic, that is referred to as an "opt out toggle", which would allow players decide for themselves if the wish to be affected or not.

If an opt-out toggle is implemented, FE users might just find themselves without targets. It's my own personal opinion that many people who don't even post, let alone read, the forums will use the toggle, as long as it isn't hidden the way the Instance Finder was on it's implementation; and the number of dissatisfied players and ones who are changing their stance from pro-FE to pro-opt out seems to be growing. That may be the reason it's taking Turbine so long to come to grips with this issue, as it would be an admission of a mistake on their part.

Thank you all for the replies on this thread. 'Glad' to see its not only us that have experienced this and had a w't'f? experience... Hope the dev's will look into it and at least reset it to how it was before they implemented RoR (think even if you was only smoking you was 'imune' to the forced emotes then?).

That vendor thingie is a good idea, but it should come as a 'hired' npc you could rent for big occasions like huge concerts, birthday parties and summer balls and suchlike. That would have been awesome. You could then stack the npc with the goods you have made with your own crafters and sell as band merch :)

But remember one key to the opt out solution is that the user still gets credit towards the deed. The only ones who will be upset they can't actually affect other characters will be the griefers, and who cares about them?

You sound like a responsible emoter, all credit to you. However, your post illustrates perfectly the problem. There are many people for whom being the target of an emote is never "fun". Your "fun" use of an emote is intensely irritating to the recipient. You will never know how many people have you on their ignore list becuase you and they do not share the perception of "fun".

The introduction of a toggle* to opt-out of forced emotes altogether looks like the only way to handle this issue.

* with appropriate constraints so that you cannot opt-out immediately after performing a forced emote yourself.

I've never had a huge problem with FEs. Usually people only hit me with them when I'm at the vault, so it doesn't interfere with what I'm doing. However, I am dismayed to hear that FEs now interfere with playing music. I'm sure it wasn't an intended thing, but it should definitely be fixed. Even though it's not a big thing on Firefoot, I know that the concert scene is important to the social fabric on many servers. It's a great role-playing tool, as well as just being fun.

Players have the option to turn off player music if they don't like it. I think it's only fair for musicians (and everyone else) to be able to turn off forced emotes as well.

Exactly. If I have the toggle on to avoid FEs, I have absolutely no objection to people using them on me for deed credit, as I will not see them. The people who will truly lose targets are the griefers who will suddenly find themselves without their quickest and easiest tool to grab attention. An opt-out is a quality of life enhancement that will improve game enjoyment for the majority of players, whether they enjoy FEs for fun social purposes or prefer to avoid them.

I have not tested it, but one workaround may be for the band to play the concert mounted?

What's really awful are these emotes going off in towns when folks are trying to get/turn in quests. Today there were about 6-7 people standing around an NPC and someone thought it was a great idea to unleash the Turbine sponsored griefing tool. Frame rates instantly plummeted, people were running into walls trying to get away, it was utterly ridiculous...

Since, by and large, those favoring the "opt out" have no particular desire to adversely impact those that like forced emotes and/or wish to work on forced emote deeds, the usual proposal would be that, using a forced emote, still give credit towards the deed. It just wouldn't *do* anything to any character that had opted out.

If the motivation is to see someone elses character act out an animation you chose...then I have no regrets for your "lack of targets".

Can't have it both ways. Either people, in general, like the forced emotes and won't opt out, or people in general *don't* like forced emotes and will opt out in droves. If the first case were true...these threads would not exist, or those asking for the "opt out" would be buried by those not wanting it. In the later case...wouldn't that just prove the point that the "opt out" is badly needed?

Wouldn't be the first time. They've admitted various mistakes over the years. One of the most noticeable was Radiance. Took two years to remove that one. In this case, with very few exceptions, there isn't a demand to remove forced emotes unless the "opt out" won't happen.

I'd far rather Turbine step up to the plate and admit they made an error than that they try to sweep the error under the rug and pretend there was no error when there plainly was.

I was at a concert just a bit ago, and some minstrel came by and hit us with *irresistable melody*, and some dwarf came by and make the entire band fall over with some forced emote. The music kept playing, but it just looked stupid with them all lying on the ground.

I guess it's ok to dream of the day when we can have undisturbed concerts. But for now, the only emotion I feel is disgust.

It lately also seems to be used to allow friends to get to nodes, or it was just a coincidence. Multiple times when I was running to a node and someone else too (but I was closer), I got a forced emote on me by a third person (perhaps a few of those times the one I was outracing, as sometimes I was within range), allowing the one I was outracing to get to the node before me.

But regardless, it's of course annoying in ANY situation when you're running somewhere, and suddenly you're forced to wait because someone used a forced emote on you. None is as bad as having an event disturbed of course, but still felt like adding this.

One of the reasons I have played LOTRO from Beta, and have two Lifetime accounts, was that I did not have to worry about 12 year old griefers making my play time unpleasant. I have had few issues in this game (unrequested assistance lowering XP, Node stealing, thats about it) but now I find myself having to change my gameplay to avoid these e-motes.

I find it intrusive and downright abusive that my character is FORCED to take actions I did not induce. Control of my character should be MINE, not another players.

As an original Beta player, Founder, and Lifer, I expect more from the game.

I really hope WB is not trying to turn this game into "LOTRO meets Looney Toons".

Don't misunderstand, I hate forced emotes, but I think it would be kinda funny if *on purpose* somebody did an entire concert faceplanted lol. Nobody could interupt that! I don't think.. unless command respect or something else could make you stand back up again.

Doubt this will improve. They did some modifications (shared/increased cooldowns) and I bet this is all we'll get.

Yeah, of course. It takes a lot of time and efford to prepare such a concert. The bandleader invests hours into setting up a good playlist that is nice to listen to and the band meets up an hour early for a rehearsal. We are talking about 10-15 man-hours of work these preparations take up easily. If you don't believe me, you never have done it yourself. Of course not all of this work is lost when someone decides to disturb a running concert. But it displays an incredible ammount of disrespect to others. Do you jump the stage, grab a guitar and play over a concert in real life? Do you jump the stage and stand next to a band and kick them so they all fall over?

You may laugh. But you will laugh for 0.1 seconds at the most then security caught you and throws you out if the stadium. Well, the game is not the real world and we can't throw people out or port them away. But does that mean we have to endure idiots? Is that by any means fair? No, it's not. At all.

Oh yeah, that newest stupid bug the QA team let slip which makes the band emote is just unbelievable. I really hope the devs fix this soon. I was in the band Estellost described and I was so glad that I heard about this earlier and was able to try it out beforehand so it didn't hit us completely unprepared. I will post a video of it here should the bug still exist next weekend when we play the next concert. I am sure there will be some "funny" guy coming and make us lie down. It's practically a given.

I personally don't understand why Turbine is so slow to respond to this player concern.

It is obvious FEs annoy a lot of players. If Turbine will allow players to ignore Player Music, why can't they let us ignore Forced Emotes? I find Forced Emotes a lot more annoying than Player Music.

Woh, chill honey. Did you read the first part there where I said I don't like forced emotes? Or the "on purpose" part? I think you misunderstood my post. I understand the amount of effort, and I hate griefers too. I'm all for a toggle or maybe allowing somebody to be marked player killable as soon as they do a forced emote. I just thought it would be funny to see somebody do a whole concert laying down, *on purpose*. Thats all.

I am hoping that the reason it is taking so long is that they are actually devoting development resources to working on a solution. As you know, everything they do has a risk of breaking something else (hence all the weird bugs that have come about since RoR release), and a new addition such as an opt-out toggle will have to be refined and tested and refined again many times before we get it in the game. At least that's my dream. :)

They can't be unaware that this is an issue. But likewise they can't promise something that they aren't 100% sure they can deliver. As much as I wish they would step in here and say they are working on something, I'm guessing they aren't allowed to do so.

So here's a hug and a batch of cookies for all those devs who I know are working hard on fixing this for us! And pie for all the players who continue to provide entertainment and enjoyment for the rest of us, despite the griefers who try to keep you down. We do appreciate your efforts, no matter what the griefers do! :)

/signed we need a toggle that we can use as players that is a /forced emote on/off

so this way if we are busy and dont want to be interupted or just hate forced emotes we can turn them off... and if we want to play along then we can do that too just by flipping the switch...

Forced emotes are a bad idea because they bring out all the bad stuff in people. Let people prank others in RL where they can be punished but not in a game where there is nothing you can do about it as the victim.

Forced emotes are a bad idea because they bring out all the bad stuff in people. Let people prank others in RL where they can be punished but not in a game where there is nothing you can do about it as the victim.

I didn't understand your first post either. This is the first of your posts where it was clear that you meant the band laying themselves out, which I guess could be entertaining perhaps. But if you don't want people to get upset you may want to avoid phrases like 'chill honey' and 'take a freaking breath'; due to their condescending tone, they tend to increase aggravation rather than alleviate it.

I understand what you mean. But it's not going to be funny, nor will it help anything. As I understand it, some of the emotes will just stand you back up again.

i do not understand Turbine. The only thing that makes any sense to me is that Turbine folks want to make this as much of a PvP game as they can, within the constraints of the license.

What WB/T future designs are I do not know. I do know that in the RoR Beta there was nothing in the test code I saw that had any possiblity of stopping a /FE. The topic was discussed in the Beta forums. If they have any plans for an /FE opt out, it was not demonstrated there.

old story twice told:
I played SWTOR when it came out and things where just fine. I'm a slow player, so I had few problems that the more advanced players had. There were lots of problems but I figured they'd work it out eventually. That was until they came up with The Rakghoul Plague event. If you were L50 you could go to this planet, get infected and return to the main game hubs, noob worlds and just infect everyone. If you didn't buy the antidot your toon blew up in a green cloud and infected everyone around you. My toons were L20ish and were infected. The antidot did not last and cost 10,000 credits each. My toons had 2 or 3,000 credits max. It wasn't fun for me. Their forums burned with people unhappy about the situation. You could hardly log in without seeing the melt down in progress. The official response was.... D E A D A I R. My offical response was: Closed 2 accounts.

Not long ago, I called up their CS and asked if they'd ever found a Perma-Cure, the answer was: No. My accounts are still closed. They're going F2P soon but you know, if they haven't fixed the /FE on their side it won't matter.

In LOTRO the /FEs are not as bad but now, whenever I'm around other players I look for hiding spots. Places other players cannot tap me. Places that I'm hidden or where I can see another player coming towards me. The only players coming up to you these days are those who plan to drop D.R.A.G.O.N. on you...

Now I have probably 1200 festival items still left - after years of getting them. Everyone and anyone is a target now, when my timer is off and you're near me. I won't pick you out of a crowd (unless you're a friend), or disrupt a group of people, but the timer for learning them is so annoying that I just don't care about your hurt RP feelings anymore. Blame Turbine? Sure - it was a poor fix (why not have an insta-learn a stack of items if you have them on hand?). Blame the rp community? Yes, I do too. I have no sympathy for most complaints about festival items.

And yes, I have removed alts from RP kins on my server because the bickering over things like this (and obviously other drama too) got unpleasant. (In fact the scroll above shows exactly what kind of drama gets started on a regular basis, over minor things, like one word.)

They hit you with an emote because it is convenient (since the cool downs are so long). Had you been out of range and someone else in range, the other person would have gotten hit.
It isn't like someone had you on their friends list, saw you in Galtrev, took a stable horse to Galtrev and then ran around Galtrev looking to hit you with an emote. THAT is going out of the way to use an emote.

People tend to forget that emotes are consumables. A person can only have so many consumables on them at once. Most people who do tend to collect 300 for the skill are actually very responsible in using them on people they either know or know won't get their panties in a bunch about forced emotes. Though people who go AFK get hit the most even without known "consent" because the person AFK won't even notice the emote.

I actually haven't synced any music since the release of RoR but me and a few friends would spend a lot of time playing randomly in Bree or Galtrev. Prior to RoR nothing could knock a player out of music mode (not even combat mode). If this is no longer the case, I too hope that music mode return to the state where nothing could knock a player out of music mode.

Yes. Consumables that you do not have to use.

Rye is 85, and I have a lot of fun playing him. He's got nice weapons and I'm working hard on his armor and jewelry. He's grand master with the woodworkers guild. And he did it all without using forced emotes. On anyone.

Rye goes to concerts, dances with the ladies, makes jokes and generally helps others around him to have fun. But then here comes player "A" with his bag of consumables he doesn't have to use. Is he interested in helping others in the game have fun? Nope. Selfish, self-centered player whose only interest is in his own fun, and if he has to make other folks have less fun, well, that's too bad. He doesn't care.

Turbine needs to act. They've created a divided community, and only they can fix it. And it's costing them money and customers.

Delete all emotes that can be forced on other people, I am tired of kids doing this @#$%. It did not bugg me at first but the other day when I was sitting with a friend minding my own business here comes a little _-_-_- with a emote.

Ban them all. I do not care if people bought them or whatever they did to get them if they are going to use them to harass other players they deserve to lose them.

Like the other person said, wow. Well just FYI, I do not RP. Are you the person that hit me in the Wold yesterday while I was turning in a quest? Could you post the names of you charcaters so I can add them to my ignore list, please.

Let me first preface this with my stance on the matter, I have absolutely no problem with forced emotes whatsoever. But as a solutions oriented man, I have racked my brain for an answer to end this great travesty of our time.

Simply put, there is only one.

The Turbine store.

This is the only solution to the problem because Turbine will not act unless they make a profit. So why not embrace this and make it a call to action. They either could sell a permanent forced emote opt out or more realistically what they will do, looking at their recent trends, is sell a forced emote opt out buff per hour. While the per hour buff is not the greatest option, it would at least help protect organized events such as these.

And judging by the amount of threads and anger over forced emotes, I do not understand why Turbine has not already cashed in on this goldmine. Call me crazy, but I predict many more people buying forced emote opt out than some tomes for their warsteeds.

Maybe this was Turbine's plan all along.

And what makes you think that? Just because it says my character is AFK is no reason to believe I am not setting right there. More over the worst possable use of the emotes happens while characters are AFK.

No it is nolonger the case.

What I find interesting is even after Turbine tried to get people to quite with the forced emotes all the time, that just makes people try all the harder. Turbine screwed up putting them in the game, turbine screwed up making them a deed, turbine screwed up putting the cool down on them in attempt to stop the greifing; if anything it made it worse and I'll point to rhegan post as proof. Turbine needs to "man up", take responsibility for their screw up and fix it.

That's just the way you play, as an RPer. Some people are completionist. These consumables are a part of the game that have an "end goal" and therefore can be completed. Some people are just silly by nature and in game think nothing of this silly aspect.

Anwiga is a level 84. She is a guilded, master eastement scholar. Had an FA weapon and shimmering cloak in the days of RoI (not so long ago). She likes to sync music with her friends when she isn't raiding. She likes to have fun at festivals (even when her raiding party is raiding!). She likes to use emotes because she thinks they are funny. But here comes Rye's clone, he doesn't like people using emotes on him and yells and cries and throws a tantrum. So Anwiga sighs and only uses emotes on people she knows don't mind.

Do you know what Rye's clone just did there? He forced his gameplay style on Anwiga just as he doesn't like Anwiga forcing her's on him. How hypocritical of him. And because of him, and others like him, Anwiga has two bags full of consumables that she rarely gets to use just in case Rye's clone pops a blood vessel in anger. Here's hoping that Anwiga runs into the people she met at the festivals sometime soon! New content sure does fill up inventory bags quickly.

It is the instigator who has to think whether what (s)he wants to do is acceptable or not, not the victim. Forced emoting is not acceptable to many, so you as the forced emoter should do the wise thing and either ask or don't do anything. One's playstyle should not affect the other indeed, but you as the instigator are the one who makes the first decision. If you say "screw your playstyle, I'm going to force an emote on you!", of course the player you're forced emoting says "if you don't care about my playstyle, then screw your playstyle as well!".

How about this, lets make it fair, when you hit me with an FE your character is now target-able, I can attack it, but all you can do is run, die, or log off. Does that sound fare? It's not infringing on your ability to hit me with an FE and I can respond in a fashion that suits my game play style. Sound fare to you? Sounds great to me.

Try to stop me all you want. I don't mind a toggle at all, actually. I'm just saying consumables aren't bad at all. It's what people make of them. In one of the other threads there were people saying that emotes physically hurt them (causes headaches), so yes I do think that emotes bother people so much that they'd pop a blood vessel and yet still play, that isn't an exaggeration.

And further, I do have consideration for other players. That is the reason I have two inventory bags of consumables (as a complentionist on that one toon, I need to hit that 300!). If I didn't have consideration for other players then I wouldn't wait until I see a person who I know doesn't mind consumables, I would just run around emoting people until I ran out and I would have gotten the deed ages ago.

And that is whom that line refers to, players with no consideration. I thought the double spacing was an indicator it was a separate comment from the rest of the post. My bad if people didn't realize that.

If this game gets any more PvP I'm out, I don't do PvP. It's supposed to be us against them, when we start fighting with each other they win. And as far as I'm concerned FEs are a PvP attack I can't retaliate to. But this would just make a bad situation worse, the FEers would just pick on way lower level characters.

In another post I mentioned about the game many people quit because it was PVP and you couldn't advance past the first gate with out getting ambushed. Similar thing is happening here, people are waiting at unavoidable ambush points to FE people. During festivals I wont use the stables in the shire at all. In fact it's gotten to where I want to avoid the shire completely during festivals.

That was also my RP point, someone hitting you with the black glove is a challenge to spar. If once some one used it and the game autoed to sparing, do you think that would change peoples minds about using it? As it stands they can pretty well treat your character like a sparing dummy and there is nothing you can do about it.

And I'm a bit of a completionist, but I know I can't do it all, not even going to try, especially if it is something I consider rude behavior, or putting upon my fellow players. I don't want to aggravate my fellow players any more then I want to be aggravated by them.

I mostly use them on friends / kinnies and people that I know won't mind. I know that doesn't solve anything for the people annoyed by it, but at least I -and I'm sure others- try to be sensible.

However, you are right. Emotes should not work on people already performing an action such as dancing / playing music / any other emote.

Edit: I fully support the idea of an 'opt out' option to forced emotes. It wouldn't ruin my fun and I would respect people that don't want to be on the receiving end.

Making the deeds much easier to complete, or removing them entirely and making the skills directly available for barter during the festivals would go a long way towards addressing the issue.

I mean, adding deeds (with a dangling carrot) for using 300 consumables and then a long cooldown between uses that makes it nearly impossible to advance the deeds significantly without using the consumables whenever possible ... Well, obviously enough, that's going to result in people using consumables whenever they're off cooldown on whoever happens to be around, 300 times.

Edit: also would probably be a good idea to make the champ/minstrel/cappy forced emotes group only.

Probably already know or it has been mentioned, but the forced emotes are on a deed. Which makes it worse. I wish we could turn them off ala options panel.

Thing is, you all may have this sort of consideration, but my experience tells me you are a small sub group of emoters. If everyone had that sort of consideration we wouldn't be here now and emotes wouldn't be an issue.

Equendil, my question is why have them as a skill at all? Are they really good for anything aside from annoying your fellow players?

RPers should be in favor of FE. Hear me out.
Not because of what they do, but because of how it makes them feel.
They hate forced emotes, and forced emotes cause squabling and "PvP" situations. But LoTRO can't be a straight up us VS. them situation. Even the writers knew that. Look at the Duneldings. They fight among each other all the time (even kill each other!). People can't be split into two clean simple groups. Why would a world following the story of many different peoples have "protagonists" all bunched up in one group? (not like we're out right killing each other)

As for why have emotes at all if they annoy people?
You can say the same thing about every aspect in the game, that isn't a well thought out response.

Why have player music in the game at all? All it does is annoy people.
Why have crafting in game? All it does is annoy people with its time wasting farming.
Why have PvP (moors) at all? All it does is annoy people (and some other argument I can't think of)
Why have RP toggle at all? All it does is annoy people who don't RP (the majority of the player base doesn't)
Why have group quests? All it does is annoy people by making them work together.
Why have solo quests? All it does is annoy people by forcing them to do something without their friends.
Why have raid content? All it does is annoy people who can't raid (lack of friends/kin/a good computer, etc.)
Why have solo rewards equal to raid content? All it does is annoy people who do raid.
Why have different classes at all? All it does is annoy people who want to do everything.

If this happens I am out of here. I was in the team which organized Weatherstock 2012. We had about 500 visitors for about 6 hours. So that would make a nice sale of about 3000 of those items on one day if every visitor would like to be "safe".

Weatherstock is an event to celebrate music and to have fun. It was not invented to support sales in the Turbine Store. And you all can be sure that I would not pay Turbine to finally be safe from idiots they created. That would be plain blackmail.

This idea is not smart, sorry. It's the plain opposite. It would ony cause an uproar of musical RP'ers of epic proportions.

Most of that has a purpose in the game though, I see no purpose to the emotes other then to annoy people.

I mean what is the point of having the black glove skill if not to use it on people? Or any of the emotes for that matter. And some people seem very determined to get those skills, even at the cost of their fellow players. And to what purpose? So they no longer need consumables to annoy people?

My fellow players; for the most part, aren't my enemies. So I am actually being attack by what are supposed to be my allies.

Agreed. But at a concert the band and almost everyone in the audience want to be safe from other people's pranking-fun. What I would like to hear is an official statement from a Turbine Rep why it is not possible to grant it to those who want it. And everyone else: You don't need to try to find an answer for them.

The only way to get a solution or at least a statement on the matter is to talk to Turbine staff.

First a note to the above quote.
No it is not. All the Forced Emotes for groups of people are skills by certain classes, like the 'irressistible dance' that Minstrels can make everyone in a radius do. These was the ones that have been changed, and my major concern when posting the first post in this thread. (That was what happened to us at the rehearsal).

I am playing, as I have stated before, on the [EN-RP] Laurelin server that is one of two servers that have RP in their servername, and are ment to be for Roleplayers that wants to experience 'life in the middle-earth' as close as one can make it in the frame that Turbine/Codemasters have made it possible. (Landroval is the other server).
I have an understanding that the majority of the people on these servers (and i had the impression that it was so on most of the other servers too) are more mature players than for example WoW got in their paying customers. I am myself what ya might call an 'Oldie' (in my last part of the 30'ies :( ) and in my experience there is a much bigger change of saying 'hi' to a new player that is in the 25+ than in the 15- part age vise.

So, does the Devs keep that in mind?
We are not a bunch of 10yo that are 'raging' against something our mum forced upon us, but an adult bunch of paying customers that is getting pushed around by changes in the game-structure that is rather silly and very annoying.

I would very much like to hear from someone 'up there' the reason for:
- Why was the Forced Emotes added to the game in the first place?
- Is it a bug or a feature that both the item based and the class based forced emotes now work on people in the middle of other emotes? (like smoking/playing music etc) In other words, was it planned?
- Why have the devs changed the 'Sigh' emote? The new sound is rather bad compared to the original one.
- Why have the devs changed the 'Cheer' emote? Now it does not give any sound at all and are rather pointless
except if ya are in a 'deaf-mute kinship' (not trying to harass deaf or mute people, just trying to make a point of the emote).

Guess there is other emotes that have been changed as well, but those are the one's i've tested and 'scratched my beard' over.

Well, our concert is in two weeks time but I guess we will just have to have a lot of 'silk gloves' spread around our 'guards' for the event, so they can keep the FE pranksters down on the ground during the event. Should not last for more than four hours or so....

True to some extent, yes. There are people who abuse every system or tool someone gives to them. This is not new for anyone. Companies that make MMO's all have their psychologists who give their advice to the developers. They are dependent on how people react to the hamster wheel in form of a online-game they create. MMO developers use scientific research results to design these games in a way that makes us stay in it. Like crazy grinds and such things. I am no scientist in this area so I don't know. I only can wonder in what way all these FE threads work in their best interest and not against them. They would certainly do something about it if these threads would harm them.

The difference with that scenario is one I have spoken of several times in the past: Action/reaction. Who initiated the action in your scenario? Anwiga. All Rye did was react to what Anwiga did. No hypocrisy involved. Rye does not mind one whit if Anwiga finishes the deed. Just don't do it using Rye as your target dummy.

Here's a hint: Hamster-wheels can have many more forms than you imagine. As long as you care for this stuff you discuss this stuff. Discussing it makes you stay in the game. Staying in the game makes you eventually buy TP or even subscribe and that makes you care for it. Infinite loop. There is no magic behind all this, it's just a complicated way to make money. And the forum admins just make sure we don't insult each other.

I really hope this isn't the case or if it is, it's a bug they'll fix very. very soon. I'm going to give Turbine the benefit of the doubt and hope it got messed up during this launch.

They can't. After performing the emote tied to the forced emote ability they use on you you return to the playing music animation.

Except for that festival prank thing which makes you lie down. You stay on the ground while the music continues to play. This happened to the whole Andune Ensemble yesterday amidst of playing a song. We then tapped a cursor key to make our characters stand up again and then they returned to music animation.

It's a stupid bug.

Maybe we should make a video of it?

I'm against forced emotes, and think they should be removed or should be able to be opted out.

But I do think it's unfair to say that anyone doing it (regardless of circumstance) is griefing, or be in anyway aggressive towards them, because they are just doing what Turbine have told them and allowed them to do.

If Turbine gave away a free kitten for every 100 kill steals, you can't blame people for kill stealing.

All of the anger must go towards Turbine, and not to the players involved in my opinion.

It's the players who decide to do, or not do, the festival emotes. Yes, blame Turbine for giving the items and deeds. But also blame the players, who can quite easily decide not to use the emotes on strangers.

If there was a substantial reward for doing the emote deeds, I'd have Rye and a f2p character from my second acct, in my house, casting till the deed was done. If my friends wanted to join me, they'd be welcome so they could get the deed done, too.

What Rye would NOT do, ever, is cast a forced emote on a stranger. No matter what that stranger was doing.

That's how I choose to treat other players - with respect. I expect others to treat Rye in the same manner. If they won't, they have only themselves to blame if I think they are acting like a jerk. Turbine doesn't force anyone to cast those emotes on strangers. That is totally the choice made by the player.

I have to disagree, if you put limitations on how you act in game then that's up to you. But how everyone else acts and what is acceptable is governed by Turbine.

It's similar to the sort of PvP discussions you get across MMOs. Where on an open PvP server the developers say "anything goes", but then if someone gets constantly killed as soon as they respawn, or the enemy kills all the NPCs in someone's local village, they moan at the player for doing it.

Turbine have said "go out and perform this forced emote on people, it's ok for you to do it". So people are doing it. The fact that you wouldn't do it personally and therefor think everyone else shouldn't do it is largely irrelevant as what Turbine have said it's ok to do far outweighs your personal ethical code.

Again, Turbine says it's ok but Turbine doesn't force people to cast them on strangers. That is a choice the player makes. And only the player. The player makes that choice, so they can live with the consequences. Action vs reaction.

meh, I doubt they will ever address this, its been complained about for so long. In the meantime, I just make note of abusers (those deliberately being annoying, not the ones just clearing out their inv at the mailbox or whereever) then whenever I see the same player out and about doing their questing I make sure to slap them down, interrupt whatever they are doing and generally giving back karma in threefold. :D

Yes it does. Because you're playing in a virtual world governed by a set of rules, where you are allowed to do whatever you want within those rules.

But the what consequences are there to the player who is doing it? If you verbally abuse them, you are breaking the rules, so then you have consequences.

You having a negative reaction to something that is acceptable (in the eyes of the governing body) only affects how you are feeling, so you are getting upset, annoyed, angry with a player and you can't do anything about it.

I would suggest a different reaction on your part would be more beneficial to the situation.

Aside from the fact that shooting someone in real life, and something happening on an online computer game have a slightly different set of circumstances.

My position is, if someone does that, your issue should be with the people who make the laws, not the people who follow them.
