Third party tools are often inaccurate or do not read our flags correctly. They're a guess in other words.

Servers are not currently availalbe to players. However you may be able to patch your client. Though you should be aware that due to a large volume of players trying to patch all at once, you may encounter log wait times during the "examine" phase. If you are seeing this, we encourage you to close your launcher and try again in a few minutes. If you leave your launcher in this state it may time out and hang.

No idea if this is because of the patch, but i just downloaded something with the launcher (assuming the patch?) and now my launcher is stuck on "examine programs".

Read a bit about it, and i'm assuming it's because of the servers being down atm?

This is normal for a patch day. It's because a lot of people are trying to patch at once. Follow Sapience's advice:

That update on the blog thing seems to be broken, it's the same for others.

Well, I think the patch server has cracked under pressure as now I can't even get past the "connect" phase on both the launcher on this machine and the laptop that's next to it.

Same thing for me.

It's a conspiracy! Sapience is trying to get you all to get stuck on Connect! Don't listen to him and leave your launcher on Examine!!

Also agree on the time frame query. Would love an answer I'm from Aus so the server went of at 5pm and still nothing its now 10.30pm all night no LOTRO makes me sad

You didn't consider reading the "Stuck on examine programs" or "Server down" or "Something to watch while waiting" or "Technically speaking-update time in MMO's" or "Are we there yet, a schedule for the perplexed" forum posts that are immediately below this one before you posted the same question everyone else has already asked, and still others have responded too?

Update server is offline. Restarted launcher on 2nd computer and A connection attempt failed.

Last time I closed (pushed X) my launcher in the middle of doin sumtin, i had problems loggin in and had to redownload the entire game. Is there another way to safely exit the launcher to avoid this problem?

Currently the patch servers are down. We've taken them off line for a little bit to do some adjustments.

Game servers will be up sooner than soon but not soon enough or before sooner rather than later. Of course, they may be up sooner than that. Maybe.

My guess is that the patch server has either been shut down because of the large volume of patch requests or it just can't cope with said large volume.

Ya know... it would have been nice to have a support/maintenance thread with a "servers down Monday morning" sort of verbiage in the subject. I've been trying to figure out if the problem was on my side.

Patch servers were taken off line for additional maintenance. We had not announced them as up and have not given an ETA. The expectation for the day should be, "When the game servers are up and they are announced as open, then they are up and open. And not before." :
