So yea like I said I will just wait a couple of weeks, I have some other stuff I want to do on some new characters anyway.

I do hope everything goes ok for Turbine and that they have a smooth launch, I have been playing this game since late 2007 and I have not had any complaints. But then again I treat MMORPG's as a hobby and not my life. :-)

Sure they ought to have allowed us to patch early, but considering we don't know when the final build was finished, and that RoI isn't supposed to be released until tomorrow anyway, I am not too bothered by having to stare at the red connection cross of doom.

If 99.9% of the population is patched and playing by the end of tomorrow then in my opinion the RoI launch will have been a success.
    This Warden is OP, begone!

I'm finally patching and my PC has been on auto-connect since 12 GMT today, not tomorrow which is the scheduled date.

If this patch downloads, installs and then (subject to connecting to a live server) works first time then, imo, this is a successful patch; no twiddling with files, no re-installing to make the patch work, just a wait for my turn to win the lottery.

A nightmare update is d/l-ing the patch then sitting for hours at the PC reading forums for a solution to make the patch work on my PC. That is a nightmare update, this is just a case of letting the launcher do it's thing while I do something in Real Life.

My guess is most people are going to guess A Guitar.

I think they're wrong. My guess is a Thanksgiving Turkey with multiple personalities. Or perhaps a Duck. I guess it could be a Chicken but a Turkey seems more majestic.

not true, because in a few hours people on the American continent are going to start coming home from work and demand will increase not decrease.

But what can we do, just wait I guess.

I am assuming the login servers can't differentiate between f2p, premium and VIP? Just a thought.

Am finally patching now after something like 6 hours waiting to connect: must say it is updating incredibly quickly compared to all previous updates that I can remember, so that does take the edge off a bit

I won't be home till nearly 6 so I'll be waiting regardless! However I will have someone check the launcher at home to make sure everything will patch properly so it will be done when I arrive.

After waiting hours, without doing anything to the client it has connected and is downloading the patch.

For those who wish to confirm that doing nothing will get you something.

I don't understand the logic that because Turbine is launching ROI 1 day ahead of time that they then get a pass on these issues.

Example: You order a car from a dealership and they tell you it'll be ready on the 27th. They call you ahead of time and say "actually it looks like your vehicle will be here ready for pickup on the 26th". That's awesome! I mean you could have continued driving your old vehicle (pre-ROI LOTRO) for another day but you're happy to get into the vehicle a day early. Once you get to the dealership they come up to you and say "we're sorry but the car got here this morning and in doing our check up on the car's systems we discovered that the car won't even start. Please sit tight while we work to figure out what's wrong with your car." Meanwhile you already adjusted your schedule to pick up the car on the 26th even though its not ready.

This kind of service is unacceptable and just because the game was supposed to be ready on the 27th and now is available on the 26th really doesn't mean anything if you can't get on and play.

That would be grand except that there's no damned connection even though I'm fully patched!!!!!!!!!!

Yes indeed everyone is saying 'stay calm, etc, we're getting it a day early after all...' but they are neglecting to comprehend that that day has been *lost* due to this quite shambolic affair.
